who is the best space marine character and which wargear should he have?

i personally think that the master of the forge is a sick character if he has a power weapon and digital weapons
this is mainly the fact that he has got a servo-harness as standard giving him an unbaleable fire power with a flamer, twin linked plasma pistol, and a bolter. then can charge with the power weapon going first with 3 attacks and then 2 more at strength 8 with the servo-harness with digital weapons letting you re-role 1 failed to role to wound in each turn. All that for only 125points such a bitchy character.

Master of the Forge is awesome. I also really like Telion because he's such a bad ass. But Master of the Forge is just disgusting for attack amounts.

PS I know Telion is not an unnamed, but felt he was worth mentioning.

Honestly, the best SM character is either the librarian or the chaplain. Chapter masters and Captains really arent that great... they are good in combat but cost way too much. The chaplain, for example, is fairly cheap, and is easily worth his points when your assault terminator squad hits the enemy lines.

Chaplain w/ Jump-pack.

exactly. he's extremely cheap for how amazing he is. jump chappy is what, 125 points? the punch he adds to an assault squad is retartedly awsome.

Definitely great for the point cost, absolutely diabolical when added to assault terminators with claws...plus add in his own digital weapons and he's beastly.

Although I never noticed before...if you give a chaplain terminator armor, there is no option for CC weapons...

He keeps his crozius & is given a storm bolter.

Ah, yes, I see the Crozius is not taken away, thanks

Chaplain used to be awesome when he could have Dual Lightning Claws. Reroll hits AND wounds ensured whatever he went after was dead.

My personal opinion is that the current SM HQs are pretty good, provided you keep them cheap. Other than the Captains they're not as tough as they used to be, so you need to be careful with them and not invest too heavily.

So, for sheer awesomesauce, stick a Jump Chappy or Librarian into an Assault Squad, and you have a great, cheap (115pts or 125pts) character that really buffs the squad he's with.

Master of the Forges are also good, either with a Power Weapon and Bolt Pistol (115pts) or Thunder Hammer and Bolter (130pts) and stuck in a mounted Tactical squad. They aid the squad's shooting whilst being a beast in CC.

Finally a Captain can be armed with just a Storm Bolter and either a Lightning Claw (113pts) or Relic Blade (133pts), and is a beast in CC and not a bad shot, again making him great support for some front-line Tacticals. A Jump Pack is also a good buy for him, but then you're getting into the 150pts area, although that can be justified by his increased stat line.

best squad for SM-

Chaplain in terminator armor
Captain in terminator armor (relic blade / SS)
4 Grey Knight Terminators

in a land raider.

i'd like to see something survive THAT.

chaptermaster.....not worth it. Orbital bombardment is very hit and miss.

captain  Armed with relic blade, stormshield and a jumppack, he really is a cc beast.

chaplain seem pretty good. Has to be a big assault squad or terminator squad to be effective though i think.

Librarian....i would always give hi termie armour and a storm shield because otherwise he has no invulnerable save. They start getting very expensive, particularly if you want an epistolary.

MoF - I've never really used one but they look fun.
