View Full Version : Phoenix lords in aspect squads

Am I allowed to attach a squad of aspect warriors (In my case, scorpions) to their phoenix lord (karandras), counting Karandras as their exarch? I only have 4 striking scorpion models (I bought them long ago, assuming that karandras could count as a squad member), so I can only field them if I count him as the exarch/a member of the squad.
Thanks

If I've understood the Eldar codex right you wouldn't be able to use him as Karandras (otherwise you wouldn't be able to field the squad), but since since he should be equipped with Scorpion exarch equipment you could use him as a normal exarch. Otherwise you could use him without a squad of scorpions but then wouldn't be able to join any aspect squad (don't know what counts as an aspect squad).

Ok. It's a bit of a shame...I'll field him as a standard exarch and use Asurmen instead with my Avenger squad (Which already has enough models). But that is going to cost me a lot, for the extra of buying Asurmen as well as a scorpion exarch, so I'll have to shave points off somewhere else.

I'd try to get another box of Scorpions. That way you can use Karandras and have a legal squad too.

Yeah. All I need is an exarch really, since I play small games at the moment I'll have a 5 man squad with an exarch as well as karandras, which should do some damage :D
Though any phoenix lord is an impressive point sink, but I just played a 750pt game against someone fielding both Gazghull Thraka and snikrot (however that is spelled)

Just make sure to give him a transport so your opponent will have a hard time avoiding him.

I've only got a falcon, and I don't think I can fit it in this game. So transport is out.
This game I'll be using Baharroth by himself instead, since I don't have any hawks. This will be interesting, because I'm playing two allied small armies. I expect the ork player to charge, where I can hit his hoard with all of my shorter ranged guns and the few templates I have, but Baharroth DS's into the Tau at the back  . I'll also probably chuck my Spiders in there too by deepstrike, so I have a force to hit the tau at close range/combat, which ends up behind the orks. In theory. I know that this ork player has a fondness for charging straight in, and the tau hang back, so there should be a neat gap in between to land deepstrikers.

A lone Phoenix Lord is probably a bad idea, a squad of Fire Warriors could probably kill him in one turn without too much of a problem.

Yeah, maybe. What I'm hoping for is to get him into combat ASAP (though it is a shame he can't assault after deepstriking, which leaves him in the open), to stop enemies the tau using their firepower. I'm already rethinking my strategy, since Baharroth isn't looking too effective now

With 3 wounds and a 2+ save i'd hope not.

Don't have my codex handy, but does he have the eternal warrior rule? If not, that's a place I'd place a twin-linked s10 ap1 shot of doom :p

All the phoenix lords do, because, well, they actually are eternal warriors.

With the exception of the Scorpion Phoenix Lord before Karandras - called Arha if my memory tells me right.

All that's known is that he fell to chaos, and his blade may yet quench the shadows' thirst for blade,

Did he and Karandras not duel for (x) many days before Arha died - it's in the BRB but mines not with me at the moment.

Thought they had a 3+ Save... Did some calculations and came to the conclusion that 2 squads of fire warriors will probably deal 2 wounds.

Yeah 2 squads of Firewarriors - which would then get minced in a blend of shooting and combat the next turn.

I think it's still a big risk, instead I'm going to be using Asurmen with a 9-wound shield of Avengers to make him properly hard to kill. I'm thinking of sending my farseer with them, to keep them fortuned and their enemies doomed, which should be fairly unstoppable.

IMO the cheaper PL are the better ones. Fuegan, Maugan Ra and Jain Zar all gain strength bonuses in combat with no lack of initiative whilst still packing a fair punch with shooting,

Yeah, I would use them, but I'm wary about using them without backup squads to take some wounds for them.
(I actually have all of them, but haven't really used them, I bought them ages ago because I liked the characters)

The Eldar dex words it that he is still alive. Besides, someone had to train the Incubi.

That makes sense;

But then - how did Karandras take the armour and therefore the identity? Surely Arha would have had to have been killed or surrended?

Perhaps he didn't take the armor, but forged his own before the battle. These armors had to be built first, after all. And Karandras took his title, but not his identity; Karandras is Karandras, Arha is Arha, with the former being the patient hunter, and the latter describe as a murderous nature.

Yeah, they were both early exarchs, so they would both have had ornate armor like Karandras. All of the early scorpion exarchs could have had Karandras style armor for all we know, since the rest of them are dead.
