I was just wondering why people don't use Chaplain Cassius more. 125pts for FNP and Toughness 6, with a combiflamer and hellfire rounds. He seems like he could have lots of potential.

If I use a chaplain, hes the one I use

And who's to say you couldn't use his rules and call him Captain [something] instead? Thought about doing that myself, because for what you get for that price, he's a bargain!

Well he doesn't alter combat/chapter tactics which many people quite like their Marine HQ to do. Also he's wounding MEQs on 4+ whereas many of the other SCs are stronger when they hit

Although for 125 points he's good and as you say he is a Chaplain.

At the end of the day it depends what you want your HQ for. Got an Assault Squad in a Drop Pod (and therefore no jump packs) a Chaplain is probably what you want - so Cassius is probably the Chaplain for you.

But he doesn't have the option of a Jump Pack/Bike/Termie armour etc. Which does limit his uses a fair bit.

I've never met many Captains with 'Litanies of Hate/Faith' (I can't remember the right word myself).

The fact that he's only a small increase over a normal Chaplain makes him well worth the buy. However, the lack of options for him limits his flexibility. A lot of people use Chaplains with Terminator armor or jump packs, and Cassius can take neither. That's most likely why he's not used nearly as much as you might think.

EDIT: LW beat me too it.

BUt he works really well with a Hnour Guard or Command Squad and the mandatory Chapter Master/Captain

He works well with assault orientated infantry squads - but as soon as you've got bikes or an assault squad you'll be wanting that Chaplain with bike or jump pack. The other thing is a unit like Honour Guard is expensive and can kill units without a Chaplain.

I've seen Cassius used before just because he is one of the cheapest HQ options - IIRC with his equipment a Captain is a similar points cost or higher.

But he only has 2W and I4, and I think only 2A. Still, for T6 and wounds at range on a 2+, that's got to be worth a look, right? :D

LRR + T. Hammer Termies + Cassius = Death

I just ordered my Cassius model, I also have a termie chaplain and a jumpack chaplain coming. If you don't need to move with a jumpack, a bike or terminator armor...Cassius should be a no brainer. But if you need the termie armor, or you need to keep up with fast attack troops...then take a different chaplain. That's the way I see it

I'd have to agree with Angelofblades. If it assaults out of a LR, he is the perfect guy to put with it.
