Well today is a good day for me!

The post man delivered my Reaver titan this morning… so I’m going to celebrate by boring the hell out of you all with a step by step progress report of its building…I can tell… you just can’t contain your self’s can you

Well first of my Reaver is the 208th Reaver made (by FW  )… armed with 1 Gatling blaster and 1 Laser blaster and the APOC M/L…this gives me 206 parts to pout together, excluding the 56 optional extras (symbols) …this will be fun.

Here's a pic

http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa263/kingfig/IMG_2403.jpg

Well I’m off to inspect, trim and wash each part, so see you all in several hours…

Kingfig - how the hell do you find time to do all these projects?

Would I be correct in thinking that that is not your only Titan? What does D have to counter it? What colour will it be? Are you going to install LED's in it? Go faster stripes? Coffee machine? :D

Are you going to install LED's in it? Go faster stripes? Coffee machine? :D

All these would be kickass. Especially if the coffee machine worked during a game.

*In the middle of enemy's shooting phase, a small bell dings*
Enemy: "WTF was that?"
Kingfig: "Oh, just my titan's coffee machine."
Enemy:

The legs, with the lower leg armoured plates comes in at 2lb 6oz (1060kg ish) complete we may be looking at 6 to 10lb’… transporting it…wheelbarrow maybe

I don't think that it is 1060 KG, that's just over a metric tonne... I did a conversion on an online converter and it is just over 1 KG, so maybe it was 1.06 KGs and you just converted wrong?

??????????????? As limited run resin kits go, this is a positive gem...

drear
24th July 2008, 19:37
very right (:
as resin goes, forge world is amazingly cheap for their kits.
being sombody who has cast resin toys in the past, the price of a single tin of resin isnt cheap. £25 pounds gets you a tin that would make prehaps one of the feet of a titan, and thats not including teh time and effort it'd take to get the casting process right..you'd go through about 4-5 tins getting a good casting of just one part, simply because the process invovled is so up to chace, weather..tempriture, vibrations etc

Talkin about gettin excitable. I got angry cos my mate was being a twat with the rules, and was making his own up. As he was playing Tau he had 2 Broadsides.

Me angry + 1 very fragile Broadside + 3 foot fall to floor = Broken Broadside

Yes I knocked it off (but i did remake it, better than before) so if I was Kingfig I wouldn't let anyone near it who has a fiery temper.

But anyone who knocks over something as expensive, and as hard to build/re-build as that Titan is just a complete twat.

I would go with a nice medium blue. I wouldn't want to use a color next to red on the color wheel. That puts orange and purple out. I also would not use green. I just don't want a Christmas titan. That would leave me with yellow and blue. Yellow might look good but is hard paint. That is how I came up with a medium blue (maybe a couple shades brighter than the red to make it pop).

In the end it is your model though. Do whatever you like. I never fault a paint scheme I don't like that is still painted well.

Acutally, I was vaguely thinking about something I read in the third Grey Knight novel, Hammer of Daemons. Our hero Alric in a dream-state finds himself at the "Final Battle" with all his fallen comrades. He sees the Emperor and his loyal Primarchs with all the Imperial forces and across the field he sees the whole of the Ruinous Powers with his arch-enemy Gargatuloth etc.

One wet and rainy weekend (set up alone will take a day at least) Kingfig and I will lay out our whole armies against each other for an ultimate Apocalypse! The winner (me) will dance butt-neckid around the table with my pants throned on my head, the loser (him) will be mocked until my thoat is sore!

And Mr Titan will be the first to fall!

DURENDIN
3rd August 2008, 20:50
I reckon I'm ahead of Kingfig in the built and painted stakes:

(Approximately!)

6000 points Guard
4000 points Dark Angels
2000 points Necron
2000 points Inquisition

but I "recycle" regularly with my armies. My Iron Warriors got scrapped with the new Chaos codex and I that killed off my passion to do a counter Imperial Fists which also got banished to ebay. I also chucked my Steel Legion.

But way behind on the quantity that Kingfig has. we're talking boxes that if stacked touch the eight foot mark. I don't know how far he's got painting any of it though but it's a mountain of work to be approached. I'm trying to twist his arm to accepting the joy of spray colour base coats and this is (slowly) getting through!

Well I’m pleased to report their are no major flaws in any of the parts…and none of them are
miss-shaped, so no hot water bending required on this one.

As normal there is the odd mould line, air bubbles and flash to cut, filled and sanded… this I will cover as we go if not a simple job.

Note on safety, when making any model make shore all your tools are in good working order, and if working with resin inshore you have a face mask and goggles when sanding or cutting with a Dremel or saw etc. And always cut away from your self with any cutting tool…that it on safety from me the rest is up to you.

First page of what passes as a FW instruction manual… Leg assembly

Very simple to pout together, each leg is made from 9 parts in total (only 188 to go)

Starting with the upper leg, the Hip (1) ball goes into the Thigh (2). The Thigh goes into the Knee (3), both parts have bars witch fit into holes of there opposite part. There is a Knee piston mount (4) witch fits into a grove on the Knee. This completes the upper leg. Repeat the same for the left leg making shore you mount the Knee piston mount to the appropriate side of the Knee.

The Lower leg (5) requires 4 leg piston mounts (6) inserted into it and repeat for the left Lower leg

Coldfire
5th August 2008, 04:30
If you wanted to make it different but still in theme you could simply switch the colors around. Make the head mostly gold instead of red. Or, if your good at this sort of thing, freehand a patern on it. Base it red, then use the gold to make a simple design of weaving lines. Would be extremely ornamental while still keeping the unified look.

Anyway you guys gotta remember, as big as this thing is it's still only a Reaver Titan... I want to see you make a Warlord, or hell why not an Emperor Class!!!

The missile body is a 1:69 scale German A4 (V2) missile made by Revell, I removed its fins and replaced them with the wall supports from the Cities of Death building, Sanctum Imperialis, the eagle ones (trimming off the long thin part).

I trimmed off the leading edge of the V2’ fins and glued them on to the new eagle fins to give a better look. I then used the V2 internal combustion chamber as an external thrust nozzle/Aft skirt. I then heated one of the meny titan decals and shaped it around the missile.

A Warlard not all that you know…its only 9SP and 6VS with 4 weapons at 2500points, a Reaver is 6SP and 4VS with 3 weapons at 1250…that 1250points cheaper or… 12SP, 8VS and 6 weapons over 2 Reaver titans...

I gotta agree with you partly Kingfig, the inside is a let down, i was expecting a plasma (warp) core in such a large kit a shrine and various parchments, instead you are given 2 identicle racks and a hatch leading out fo the titan (which is cool but.. plain)

The armour was always in my mind going to be very plain with focused embellishments, this in my opinion is good as it allows a those serious free-handers some working space, i belive with such a kit alot of the detailing is left to you as its probibly going to be your 'avatar' in any game you field it and well, they do give you alot of little bits and bobs to mark it as your own.

Of course the chaos one will slap a rediculous amount of amazing detail if the warhound is any basis which in part dissapoints me and would imagine yourself included, as the Mars pattern Reaver titan will never live up to those of chaotic nature unless painted by a dab hand.

You mention 'pointles' details, now this i gotta disagree with you, i come from a long background of normal modelling (ww2 tanks, infantry etc) and little details like this make it so much more desirable, it has hidden marks which most people are too distracted to notice, and you gotta admit.. the cockpit is glorious in the most part, my only gripe is.. the pannel in the centre is alittle.. steampunk.

Now i know you havent finished so im gunna ask, gotta any plans for attachments and other bits (banners)?

I do own a FW Reaver bud, and i somehow i neglected to thankyou for this most helpful and great thread (let me plan mine much easier, your a clever bloke)

Well the interior we both agree on, its just i couldnt expect much for a mars pattern armour wise and well yeah the detailing could of used more love which is a shame.

And we both seem to have the same ideas for those icons (banner love), and i was mulling over the possibility of a CCW but i dont think i got what it takes to scratch one that i have in mind (Dreadnaught looking, idea stolen from a warhound in a competition some years ago)

And im stuck on the colour scheme, and the lack of legio's info doesnt help.

Again, good point well made and great thread =P

Kingfig, could it be that you're trying to say that you expected the technological feel in the Warhound to be the same in the Reaver? I mean, the Warhound has loads of computer screens, whilst the Reaver has a couple, and loads of dials instead. The contrast could seem a bit disappointing, I suppose. IMO, however, the fact that the Reaver has an old-looking cockpit fits in with the fact that it's meant to be one of the imperium's oldest types of titan.

Oh, and if I haven't said it already in this thread; I'm in constant awe mode at that thing you've assembled.

Wow very informative. I had thought Imperial Regiments or major space marine chapters where in control of there own titans I had no idea about legios.

What is a Legio? like what Echealon is a Legio?

If you were to break down the modern US army into its Echealons it looks like this.

-ARMY made up of about 4-5 Corps
-CORPS each made up of about 5-10 divisions A space marine Legion would be like a Corps
-DIVISION each made up of about 7-8 brigades
-BRIGADE each made up of 4-6 Batalions
-BATALION each made up of about 4-7 companies or batteries a space marine chapter would be the like a Batalion
-COMPANY/BATTERY each made up of about 2-5 platoons-PLATOON each made up of about 3-10 squads
-SQUAD each made up of about 2-3 teams
-TEAM each made up of about 3-5 Soldiers

But on the Scale of the IMPERIUM it would have thousands of armies. Is a Legio like its own army? or is it more like a Company sized force? is it more like a religious cult?

Kingfig, with this Reaver you are really spoiling us.

Can you tell me what paints you used and how please?

My (limited) understanding says that the titan Legios are basically like the space marine legions of old. Each given legion, Ignatium for example, has many many titans all over the place.

EDIT: Kingfig, about your info on the battlegroups. I'm reading Storm of Iron right now and they did it slightly different. They had two warlords, three or four reavers (cant remember), and four warhounds. The warhounds were in pairs as you said, but thats it. Not sure if thats a standard think or whatnot but whatever, there it is.

Well, that's more information then you can shake a stick at! :D

I'd say go for blue - it'll fit in more with your UM's and you UM's Auxiliary Guard army.

Very impressive! I'm also impressed by the speed of which you're assembling it, painting it AND posting it!
