I'm trying to save money on my IG army, and one way is to buy the hulls for vehicles and use magnets or something to actually make them into specific vehicles in games.
I wanted to run a squadron of hellhound variants in my army. They are fast, close range, and murder infantry. They'll probably get shot to hell and back but they'd still be fun to have. There's just one problem:
The retail price for a hellhound is apparently MORE than that of a Leman Russ! :? While it will also probably give me bits to convert it to a Chimera that's looking at at LEAST $140 for three. Too much just for three tanks, in my opinion. The Chimera box is cheaper and I was thinking I would simply use existing fuel tanks from vehicle accessory sprues and custom-make my own inferno cannon (gluing a bunch of flamers/heavy flamers together) and sticking them in the turret.
Does anybody do this? There are going to be so many things you can do with a Chimera hull in the next codex, it almost seems more cost-effective to buy a bunch of vanilla Chimeras and convert them into the vehicle I want.
