I play CSM. The last two games I've played have been against IG. The first game I had basically no anti-tank except a havoc squad with a missile lancher and lascannon, and I was completely annhilated by the fourth turn. Since then I have added terminators with meltaguns, a land raider, defiler, and a second missile launcher in the havoc squad. He destroyed my land raider and defiler in the first turn, and dispatched my terminators in turn 2. I don't know much about IG but to me it seemed his tanks were way more powerful than they should have been, like barrages that allowed no armour save and killed 5-6 men at once. So, my question is, what are some good anti-tank units/tactics I can use to at least survive until the sixth turn?

deep striking oblits are nice.
For CSM i would use nurgle bikers with meltas and get in his tank's face with some meltas and meltabombs.Power fits are nice also.
IF you have a daemon Prince bring that along because that will become a high prioity target and soak up alot of the fire power.
If your playing against the new guard codex (the one coming out)then i cant really help ya snice i havent figured out a weakness yet.

your losing to guard  the end is nigh. lol jk
maybe bring along a predator w/ lascannons. and add another lasconnon to devastators if you can other wise you can give fist's to squads and assault the tanks :?

I'd suggest getting up close and in his face as soon as possible. your units are much more potent than his in close combat, and he will always beat you at range. Take the fight to him. He shouldn't be able to reliably blow up a land raider at long range... so use land raiders, rhinos, defilers, and just run forward, to get into close combat. Even against tanks, your marines krak grenades should take them apart.

this may be a big part of my problem, i definetely need to find a way to close the gap quicker

Buy an Imperial Guard army. Kidding aside, I don't knowhow mu 'nids are going to handle all the spiffy new IG tanks.
As others have said, get up close. Raptors and Bikers both provide fast movement for Meltas. The Defiler, Land Raider, and Predator can all supply long-ranged anti-tank. Flying Daemon Princes can wreak havoc with armor. Assuming they survive. You might want to try Termi-cide squads (three termies with combi-meltas). Dreadnoughts are also an option, but with them you run the risk of shooting yourself.

Which tanks is he using and what points level is the game. Other than that I would sugest raptors with melta bombs and melta guns as well as a squad of 4 havocs with lascannons. A guy used this and it poped my Battlewagon in 1 turn and it has the same armor as a russ.

in a 1850 game (we were testing a scenario for a store tournament) he was using a medusa, two leman russ' (i think), and two chimera's. All I know is three of his tanks had multiple barrages and he was taking out large numbers of men at once.
on a side note i later discovered he made an illegal move which destroyed my land raider and a rhino, which could have very well changed the outcome of the game

Why in the world did the leman russes have barrages? They should have had a battle cannon, which is ok, or a a big ordinance gun....
Anyway. If you deepstrike or keep stuff in reverves thats one or two less turns that he has to shoot at you. Then again its one or two you have less to move into a good position and shoot at him. Outflanking would be pretty good, but do chaos marines have anything with scout/infiltrate?
Lascannon shots should do well. Try to go for their side armor (which isnt very good). Also chimeras are just the transports, so go for the leman russes/medusa.
You can keep your infantry 2'' apart from eachother making his templates kind of useless.
Getting them in CC with gaurd should do wonders. Think about your range, if you move and rapid fire thats an 18'' range, so if anything is father away than that, you're better off running.
Why did the barrages allow no saves? Your guys should all have 3+, 2+, or 4+ saves. The leman rus can peirce the 3 and 4+, but your terminators shouldnt have fallen so quickly unless he was using lascannon shots. STILL! shouldnt they have 4+ invulnerable saves because of the terminator armor? If you're termninators died as easy as normal troops, it would be wiser to use the points getting some more basic troops.
You could also try to set your army up that the important things are in the back, making your opponent always take Target priority tests, and with LD 7, its not that easy to fail them. IM not exactly sure what it would do, but its a thought.

Run a full mech force and make target priority his problem not yours. Havocs, Land Raider with Termies, Raptors, Berserkers in a Rhino, Plague Marines in a Rhino. Make him decide how he wants to die.
Also none of his weapons are Barrage. They are all one shot Ordinance or small blast, nothing is barrage unless stated otherwise in the codex, which niether the Medusa or Russ are. And even if he was using the Executioner its still only a 3 shot blast weapon, not barrage.

thanks for the advice, I am definitley going to deep strike next time, Chosen marines have infiltrate, and I gave them an icon so they can direct the deep striking units (no scatter).
Part of my problem with the terminators was that the dice gods are angry with me and I couldn't make a save
also, he said one of his multiple barrages was like a plasma gun shot (AP 2), and he was ripping my squads apart with it
I need to get my hands on a IG codex and see what the heck he was using because it seemed that his guns were way too powerful

They are way to powerful, he's using executioners then if he says they're Str 7 AP2 weapons....these ARE NOT Barrage. Multiple blast does not equal barrage. They are only Barrage weapons if listed in the codex as such.
The only barrage weapons in the guard codex are Collossus, Death Strike, Earthshaker(Basilisk), Griffon, and Storm Eagle Rockets. Tell that to him next time.
No Leman Russ variant has Barrage weapons.
