Er, well, it isn't far away, but that's lac leman (geneva to all you foreigners) and not lac neuchatel. Those were taken from Mont Pelerin, above Vevey and the infamous Montreux, of which a few of you may recognise from a certain Deep Purple song.

Some photos of my trip to Ottawa...Nothing fancy, I'm shite with a camera, but you know....<_<

These first three (first one is the Parliament Buildings :) ) were taken from the Museum of Civilization in Gatineu, Quebec, across from Ottawa. I was surprised at how nice the weather was that day tbh...

Next is the Fairmont Chateu Laurier...Just a nice looking building I guess.

http://40kforums.com/imageupload/images/img4a85a06ff0e97.jpg

Then just some shots at the War Memorial. Unfortunatley, the sunlight did not allow me to get very good shots of it, none the less, some pics...Hopefully some idea of what it looks like can be seen at least...

Went to Centre Island (an island in Toronto) the other day. It was a fun trip but I went a bit too late. My initial goal was to get there before the sunset. I was late and all my friends were telling me how awesome the sunset was from there. I did get some pictures of Toronto's skyline from the ferry. Wasn't as nice, especially since I couldn't set up a tripod but I'm semi-happy with the results.

Here's two of mine.

The first is non-digital (Olympus OM-20). Shot on ISO100 film with an F3.5 50mm prime lens, 2 second exposure and handheld (breathing is the trick). Firedancer at a friend's NYE party back in 1995 (as in December 1995).

Scanned image (negative was lost) but there was some minor damage to the print.

This one is digital, and is just a chandelier from a hotel I was staying in prior to a mate's wedding. I liked the shape.

I'm glad you guys enjoy them. Means a lot that you're using my pic as your wallpaper :D I'm actually hoping to get a few prints of my favourite pics blown up for my room. The red leaf one is going to be up there.

EC: I am using a canon rebel xt for these shots. It's a fairly old camera that I got really cheap but it does well enough. I may upgrade later on if I can find the money but for now, I'd rather spend money on better lenses. The leaf picture was taken with a 50mm f/1.8 lens while most the other ones were taken with a 70-300mm f/4-5.6 lens.

I'm sad that the colors came out so blah in this picture, since I love the composition. It is overexposed so it kind of ruins the picture.

I really want to get the 35mm f/1.8. These were all just kind of snapshots with the kit zoom. I should have gone out hiking with the camera more when it was warm out. Hopefully this weekend we'll get some fun pictures with the leaves turning. It is pretty cold out already though.

On this trip I didn't take many shots myself since I took out my Canon AE-1... then I ended up ruining the roll of film because I'm a film noob...

Lovely pictures MGR.
First pic has very nice and stark colours while the third is wonderfully atmospheric - really conveys the feeling of fall, imo. Third pic is a bit noisy, as you say, but the half-obscured track makes it interesting.

I like it :) You've got beautiful nature where you live.

We were on a short hike through Black Hawk State Park in Rock Island, Illinois. I used to love going there as a kid. They have a Native American museum there where kids can take classes on the local history as well as Native American culture.

The park seems a lot smaller to me now though!

Oh, and that is my wife in the picture :)

It looks stunning, really great scenery. I can see why you'd like it so much. Great colours. Must be wonderful at sunset - get any of those? I can imagine how great the place must look in Autumn, all the leaves turning red, yellow, brown, slight chill in the air, blue sky, clean air, slightly earthy smell to the ground: awesome. 8)

And your wife is very pretty too, good catch there. :D

EB: Thanks for the compliments. It's just a hobby I got into about 3 months back. I love it and don't think I'd take money for it. I'm just happy there are people that like the pictures I take. You don't know how big of an ego stroke it is when I see people I respect put my pics up as their wallpaper. Makes it worth it for me to spend the money and time learning about photography and taking pics. My pics aren't great but the support from everyone is :D Anyways, here is a copy of the image.

Hokay, been a while since I posted anything here:

First up, I got a new phone with a decent enough camera, so I've been taking a few snaps here and there. I'm posting a few, mainly so I can show a couple of you guys how my school looks etc:

One of the main passage ways. The statue you see in the middle actually slowly rotates.
[spoiler:2pxpjn72]http://40kforums.com/imageupload/images/img4b534dd308d81.jpg[/spoiler:2pxpjn72]

[spoiler:2pxpjn72]http://40kforums.com/imageupload/images/img4b534de8e83e0.jpg[/spoiler:2pxpjn72]
The main building looks totally like Hogwarts from the front (not my pic):
[spoiler:2pxpjn72]http://www.adressa.no/multimedia/archive/00696/hovedbygget_696952a.jpg[/spoiler:2pxpjn72]
And where I'm sitting right now! Can you see all the 40k related stuff I surround myself with?
[spoiler:2pxpjn72]http://40kforums.com/imageupload/images/img4b534e8ce581f.jpg[/spoiler:2pxpjn72]
(Bitz box to the left of the screen, boxes of 40k under the table, bag with terrain stuff under the table, lots of painting stuff and unfinished stuff over the table)

Also, my significantly better half asked me to help her with her photoshoot. I took this pic with a much better camera than the phone one. A Canon sumthing sumthing? (Sorry for those of you who are interested in cameras :D)
[spoiler:2pxpjn72]http://40kforums.com/imageupload/images/img4b534f245807c.jpg

Awww, cute doggeh! :D Is he/she yours?

I like the flower pic, very nice. Focus could perhaps be a little sharper in the middle however, but composition is nice, and the colours are nicely subtle.

Do you have any Fashion students at your college? If you do, or there's a college nearby with Fashion students (or even Dance students) maybe it'd be worth going to have a chat with them about possibly getting some studio time in with them?

Boltrig
25th February 2010, 11:45
Yup. Thats Ben. Far too much dog for one dog!

Theres not really any colleges nearby. The only one is the one Im applying to. If I get in, I get access to a studio ... but they want me to show studio aptitude to get in!

edmundblack
25th February 2010, 12:29
Argggh! That sodding catch 22 situation again. Short of renting a place out (expensive), the only option I could suggest would be perhaps getting into a normal Photographic studio and doing the odd bit of free work for them. Explain your aims and goals and what you could offer them and what you'd like to learn from them and see what that does for you. If you're doing it for free, I don't see how they could really say no. It's worth a shot at least. :D

Boltrig
25th February 2010, 12:42
Tough to do when Ive got to work :(

What I was considering is getting a black and a white bedsheet from primark, and using them as backgrounds for portraits. Ive got a couple of wee lights on clamps that I can use to light it... Makeshift studio!

edmundblack
25th February 2010, 12:46
Sounds good. Go for it! :D

I know it'd be tough with work and all, but maybe organising a time to go and talk to a studio photographer wouldn't be a bad idea.

Some scenery beside the seaside, beside the sea. Took these with my camera phone so aren't that great. It was my parent's Anniversary today, so I sent them on a boat trip around the two islands in the Bristol Channel on the boat you can just about see in the background.

And the pier being still rebuilt after the fire last year which destroyed it;-

And a nice renovated building on the island where the boat docks;-

I've only been on one boat trip along the coast of Viet Nam. That was quite an experience :D Hopefully they had a lovely anniversary.

I dunno, Mad Max/Road Warrior has awsome guns and weapons in general, yet Australia doesn't even allow airsoft at this point. What the Paintball situation over there? I can't remember if you have it or not.
