Welcome to another Fantasy AoD. I'll be using Foamy's rules. For now we'll be doing Light and Medium weights, then going on to Heavy and Unit.

1. Weights- Rules for all the different weights.

2. Entries- Who’s currently entered a character in what weight and how many spaces are left.

3. Arena sign-up form- The way you should submit your entries.

4. How the arena will work- Self explanatory.

5. Other things and Q&A- Q&A and Other things

So onwards.

1. Weights

General rules (these apply to all weights)

1. All entries must be from the current army book.
2. Must follow normal rules when it comes to magic items, weapons and armour e.g. no giving non wizards arcane items.
3. No special characters.
4. Wizard spells are rolled for at the start of the arena and those spells stick with them for the entire arena.
5. For any weight to run there needs to be at least 8 entries and at most 16 entries. If not enough spaces are filled to reach 16 then entries from previous years will be included to reach it.

The rules for lightweight are
The maximum cost of the entry is 150pts
Non-wizard Heroes only.
Mounts may have a maximum of 1 wound.

The rules for middleweight are
The maximum cost of the entry is 300pts
Any hero is allowed and non-wizard lords are allowed.
Mounts may have a maximum of 3 wounds.

3. Arena sign-up form

While you don’t have to make a complete copy of this form it does make it easier for me when it comes to the battles.

Your hero entry: What is it e.g. Vampire Lord, Dark Elf Noble etc
Your units name: Whatever you want though if one isn’t given it’ll go by your username.
Your units unmodified statline:
Special rules that apply because of the model or army used: Explain to me what these special rules are. For example the cold blooded rule for lizardmen.
Universal Special rules that apply to your unit: Eg. Stupidity
Weapons, Shields, Armour and any magic items they have: pretty straight forward.
Your units modified statline: Due to any of the above.

If it has a mount

Mount Statline:
Bonuses it gives to the rider: Explain eg. +1 to armour save
Any Special Rules the Mount has: List and Explain eg. Carnosaur Ultimate predator rule.

If it is a wizard
What lore it uses and what level it is.

You then send me your entry via private message with the point’s value included and if it all checks out and you’re not too late you’re through and this template applies to all weights. Also if you have a specific way you want your hero to work tell me e.g. say you had a Grey Seer and always wanted him to cast Warp Lightning if he gets it then tell me here.

Important Note:
You guys really need to tell me everything about your special rules, equipment, etc. I only have the WoC, DoC, and Lizardmen armybooks and Scribd is not really that reliable.

4. How the arena works.

The battles take place like this-

Each round your character is randomly paired up with another members character and when your time comes you will fight to the death.

There is no movement phase in the arena.

If any of the characters have magic then the magic phase begins. Both combatants will generate 2 dispel dice and 2 power dice (unless it’s the lightweight when its 1 dispel dice and no power dice) plus any additional for wizard level, items etc. If both survive the magic phase or there is no magic then we go onto shooting however if one character dies the other wins but if both die then the phase is redone.

Like magic if either character has a ranged weapon they get to use it here and of course if both survive or neither have a ranged weapon onto the combat phase, if one dies the other wins and if they both die the phase is redone.

Then combat now for the first round both models will count as charging but the model with the highest movement will strike first (baring magic items or other rules of course) and if they both have the same movement then it goes to initiative and if that fails the mighty D6 will decide. After the first round both fill fight as normal.

Note there is an exception to the charging rule which is say you cast something like Mankaras Incantation or Vanhels danse macabre in the magic phase then only the caster will count as charging due to using the extra boost of speed to get an advantage plus the shooting phase will be skipped.

If both are alive by the end of the combat then we go back to the magic phase and keep going until one you is no longer breathing... well bar the undead in which case when you stop moving and the winner goes onto the next round.

5. Other things and QA

Entries will be accepted until Thursday 11 of June or until all spaces are filled.

Empty spaces will be filled by previous entries(if Foamy can provide them or I'll make some if not).

IN - both weights.

Count me in for Lightweight.

Does Bretonnian praying have any negative effect on them in AoD? In game it gives the opponent choice over who goes first (game-wise)... but generally in AoD there is no determination or preference of who goes first, and combat order is based entirely on movement.

2. Must follow normal rules when it comes to magic items, weapons and armour e.g. no giving non wizards arcane items.

Assume this includes not going over the magic item point limit?

Ron
8th June 2009, 01:22
That's fine, Tarion.

The rest of you don't have to wait until Thursday to PM me, you know.

Are you considered to be in a challenge during the close combat portion?

Are you considered to be in a challenge during the close combat portion?
Yes

Well, we've got 8 people for each and we've pretty much got everyone I was expecting to join. Should we just start or leave this open utill Thursday?

Le Shirrif

Go whenever for me.

quick question - considering entering a beastman entry for middleweight - and the beastman codex says they can use certain magic items from the hordes of chaos book (now replaced with the warriors of chaos and chaos demons codex's) Obviously the hordes of chaos book is outdated in terms of army lists etc - but can beastment still use items from it (like they used too.) since their codex has not been updated in line with the others?

Ron
8th June 2009, 17:40
Sure, that's fine, Pox. Just make sure to tell me how everything works.

Possibly leave open until all entries are in? This will create a bit of problem if only 1 or 2 people join however. My middle weight AoD had 10 players and that sucked.

Maybe if we only get 8 by Thursday we proceed with the 8 that we have? It will cut out one round of combat but might be fun in that it will move along faster?

There are a lot of games going recently on but there are only a select few members participating. It would be good if some new members would like to step up and join in. I'm sure there are a few lurkers who are interested? The common players can only really participate in so many games.

MGRockwell

It is fun to enter, even if you don't think you're going to win. I've entered a few AoD's and my characters probably aren't really up to snuff. I usually don't review every book for the biggest baddest dude, but enter something from a book that I've been looking into recently.

I would definitely encourage people to put in entries even if they don't think they are necessarily 'beardy'.

Well, it's been Thursday for about 3 hours now, so I guess I'll close entries(not like too many other people seemed interested).

I need Moodz for midweight and Baragash and Tarion for both weights

Little dissapointed

EDIT- If you need another entryf or the other weights I'll find an entrant

Would you like to join in Cames? I'm all for relinquishing my spot for new gamers. We need more people playing more games to support all the games we have going on. If you create an entry for one of light or medium weight and send it into Ron before he starts, I'll agree to have you replace me if Ron is okay with that. May want to get to it soon though. Baragash and Tarion are fairly quick in sending in their entries and you'd have to probably send one in before them in order not to delay the game.

He's doing UnitWeight and Heavyweight as well, just not this instant. I'll pass theopportunityfor the lightweight/middleweight spot. I decided only to join if I was NEEDED rather than someone give up their spot.

I'll be reading the combats though

tone.tran
11th June 2009, 19:59
Okay. Well I really don't mind Cames. If you would rather sit this one out and wait that's cool. I just hope we can get more interest from new players. As much as I love this bunch, it gets old beating down the same people game after game ;). (I don't think I've actually ever done very well in many AoDs, it just sounds like I'm cool if I'm relinquishing my spot cause I'm awesome :D)

You can definitely have my place in the Unitweight :) Never been hugely keen on it.

Got my entries planned, will submit later.
