View Full Version : What Chaos unit is the best for planet strike?
I was wondering if someone could help me decide what unit to buy for planet strike, because i have no idea which one will be the most effective. I have $100 usd so i could buy anything. I was thinking either terminators or raptors. But then again oblits seem pretty fit fo the job as well... could someone help me? :smt102

Nah you got it, Termies that can DS and assault same turn is a real tide turner.
ok, so i should get 10 terminators, and what should i give them?

Equip 5 of them with Combi-Meltas, 4 of them with Combi-Flamers and 1 with a Heavy Flamer. Spread Chainfists around them equally. Then use them as 2 different units. Melta's have a stab at Bastions, if failed, they assault with Chainfists, Bastion falls and troops inside are fried next turn by flamers.
It also means they work wonders for both Attacking and Defending.
ok! sounds great. Thank you!

I've just finished my first game of plannetstrike 2k chaos (me) vs imperial guard.
Used 2 squads of termies 5man, 3 combi melta's, 1 combi flamer 1 chainfist/heavy flamer and icon of slaanesh, worked really good.
The bastions are a hard nut to crack even if they count as immobelised in cc. I fired 5 times on them with multimeltas (dreadnought) hitting 4 times and assaulted the bastion 3 times (that's 12 attacks auto hit with a dread cc weapon) and i only managed to destroy 1!! gun.
Deepstriking raptorsquads work fine to, 4raptors 2 meltas 1 asp champ (naked in my case used them for a greater daemon) and they did some nice tankhunting, but it's a suicide squad.

What exactly is Planetstrike? Is it like a campaign type of thing where it explains missions and you play them out? I guess you need at least 2 armies then? Plus you need to get the Bastion and what not to play as well?

ar yes planetstrike. This is a new campain for 40k. You should be able to find loads of posts on this on the forum. just need to look.
I would go with yes 2 squads of termies. im gonna get 6 myself. i already have 2 i just bought. im getting anotherone in the next week wooot thats 3 more to go.
hmm... ok, so i will go with termis,
1 squad with combi meltas and a hvy flamer w/chain fist
2nd squad will have the same thing, only i was thinking about giving one man a reaper auto cannon as well.
by the by is upgrading all of the termis to champions worth its points? all it does is add one attack

I wouldn't take the Reaper if I were you. They work best in close range, and the Reaper is long distance. You'd do more hurt with the Heavy Flamer.
In reply to the champions, it depends how many points you have and how you intend to use them.

if you give em chainfists then yes. the extra attack will def be worth it. your gonna need as much anti-Tank/Bunker as you can get. no point giving them to the power weapon guys though. your choice on whether to give power fists them though.

wait, so should i give, or at lest try to give all of the termis i can chain fists and the rest power fists? and then if i have more points to spend make them champions?

Naw na na. Ok let me explain, this is the general set-up I will be using:
5 termies
2 chainfists - these are the champs
3 power fists
heavy flamer
combi-flamer
combi-melta
Mark is your choice but I think khorne or Tzeentch would be better. khorne basically because the extra attack for the chain fists, at which point if you dont destroy the bastian or tank in one round then you have dead dice. Tzeentch because it gives them a +4 inv which is gonna keep em on the field, and with the amount of heavy weapons on the table I think this could be needed on at least half of your termie squads. I seriously doubt that slaanesh's +1I is gonna help against buildings and tanks so dont bother. Nurgle..... not bad but give this to bikers instead.
Bear in mind that this list is done by what is in the box sets. I dont bother trying to get another 3 chainfists for the squad. It just makes the squad waaaay to much points. And very exspensive £.
If those two points dont matter to you then yes IF your using them to hunt bastians and tanks then give all chainfists and mark of khorne and champs. Exspensive point wise but DEAD KILLY.
Hope this helps.

ok so this is what i am probs going to go with,
squad 1 and 2
2 chainfist
3 power fists
heavy flamer
combi melta, and flame
makr of khorne
champions to both chainfists this way i will almost always be able to kill a tank or bastion in one turn
But i wasnt sure, if one squad should be only combi flammers and the other one only combi meltas. any help?

sure they can. dont worry about that. the only reason I put my squads up like those is because thats whats in the box sets. and because your buying 2 of them thats will be fine. there aload combies of any type.
BTW if your doing that then the one with the combi-meltas might want a reaper because thats more light tank hunting.

huh, ok, and i think i will try and see if i can make a chain fist cause right now i have 3 (one from the termi lord kit) and try and mod some of the twl bolters to have even more combi weapons. oh ya, on a second note, should i give the chainfist guys the flamer and the power fist guys the special weapons like hvy flamer and reaper? or how should i distribute the weapons?

Put the most used or most expensive weapons together. That way you can put the extra wounds on the guys you dont need.
So basically have 2 champs with chainfists and one with reaper/flamer and 1 with a combi-melta. Make sense?

I don't rate the Reaper personally, it's a lot of points for not a lot of output. Terminators are best suited to close range, which the Reaper is not. Heavy Flamer is only 5 points and has infinite effectiveness.
5 Terminators, 1 Chainfist, 1 Power Fist, 1 Combi-Flamer, 1 Heavy Flamer, 2 Combi-Meltas. All-round, effective Terminator unit. You have Meltas and Fists for breaching those bastions and Flamers and Power Weapons to wipe out the unit inside. Two units of these means you could get 2 Bastion's down a turn followed by the units inside wiped out the next, you might even manage both in one turn.

ya i think i will go with what pyrosikth said. Plus i was over my point limit with the reaper
