I'm amazed at how very little I hear about World Eaters around the forums. I play them and do pretty well with them, so I don't believe it's they suck. So my questions ...
How many of you have seen or played against World Eaters?
or
Why don't they appear more often?

They appear as much as any other legion of the 4 Gods, and they definitely appear more often than Word Bearers, Iron Warriors, Night Lords and Alpha Legion.

They pale in comparison to the Black Legion, a simple color scheme where you can fluffily field anything in the codex you want.
World Eaters are pretty good. It hurts to really rely on transports, but it's not that big a deal.

Yeah, one of my biggest losses was against guard. Where a Demo Charge took out a third of my army. Since then I have been using rhinos and its been a great winning streak.
Knowing that your troops are the third best troop choice, as far as assaults go, in the game helps a lot of choices.

Berserkers played very often, but as was mentioned, they're normally put into your typical Black Legion power list, because they compliment Plague Marines well. (one holds objectives, one takes objectives).
World Eaters themselves are totally a viable army. The main thing they lack is ranged anti-tank, so you need some way to knock out fast moving vehicles at range. Obliterators are the best choice and supported by the fluff because they're a merc unit. Defilers and Predators can also work.
Termicide squads are really good, but not quite as fluffy since they gain nothing if marked and don't seem appropriate if unmarked.
Winged Daemon Princes are good anti-tank, fast enough to catch most things with a fair number of attacks.
Rhinos are a must. Either that or splurge on Land Raiders.
Note: If you want to play competitively, leave the Khorne Daemon Weapon at home please!

He doesn't win a lot then :P Rhinos are musts for Plague Marines. They may be tough, but they're not tough enough to survive while slowly trudging into range.

I'd say, they are reccomended but not required.
Most of the time, Plague Marines are packing the dual Plasmaguns (thanks to FnP) and dual Plasma doesn't need a Rhino to be effective. Its good, but if points are tight, it is expendable.
If the squad is packing Melta/Flamers then yes they need a Rhino.

Why is it that dual plasmaguns don't necessarily need a rhino, but melta/flamer will require one? Is it because you expect to be shot at more equipped with meltas/flamers?

It's because Plasma Guns have a max range of 24", whereas Meltaguns are 12" and Flamers are about 7".

I run 2 squads of plagues, 2 squads of zerks, with only the zerks in the rhinos and it works rather well.
Put EA on the rhinos, if they can't move then you are wasting 200+ points in bezerkers. Kharn is your friend and fits fluff. If you wanna be super fluffy throw like 4 rhinos filled bezerkers at your enemy, supported by a vindi and some oblits. not much they can do to stop something like that.
Who needs orks? I'm talking a red tide here.

Kharn is your friend
Kharn is not your friend if you bothered to read his full name ;). But he is a nasty character for his point cost, even if he occasionally kills his own teammates.

I think they don't appear more because of the chaos codex - it doesn't give much room to scope good fluffy armies that work. It works much better if you take your Plague Marines and your Khorne Berserkers etc.
I've seen Le Shirrif attempt to use World Bearers against me - it didn't turn out well. He tried to use it with no transports, which just allowed my volumes of Dire Avengers (30) complimented by the 2 Guide/Doom Farseers to mow them down as they came. And well since - I think he's gone to using a more generic Black legion list

That was in a 500 point combat patrol. No, I didn't kill a single model.

Or do you mean the 1500 point game when you killed all my rhinos in turn one D:

I have seen the World Eaters army made up of all Berzerkers and Land Raiders at the Ard Boyz tournament and it really did well. I think he placed fourth.
Myself, I'm going pure Khorne and am going to be using the Dragons for my regular Chaos Marines to compliment my Berzerkers, I think this will work fluff-wise. Although someone told me that you could do white World Eaters? Has anyone heard of that armor scheme on the World Eaters?
