Okay, so, what is this spear thing above the sword supposed to be?[attachment=0:35sxdyii]spruehelp.jpg[/attachment:35sxdyii]Is it a broken bit?

I don't own the box myself, however I'm 95% sure it's a broken bit. Look at the right hand side sprue above the sword there is a little sticky out bit, that to me seems to be a joining part for that bit of the model to the sprue, theres a similar one for the sword.

That was my thought as well. Perhaps an email to GW is in order?

Oh please. At some point it crosses that fine line between honest need for a new product and outright abuse of an amazing customer service program.
This hardly seems to warrant requesting a replacement from GW (if indeed that is what your suggesting Durandal. If not, ignore this post for the dirbble that it is).

I don't need a replacement, though I'd think they'd want to know that bits are being broken halfway through arbitrarily...I mean, it is that single part...maybe they ran out of plastic?

Ya it's broken, there should be a hand grasping the lance just below the "end" of the lance with the butt continuing to the sprue.
It's there to give you the option of giving the Dread Knight a lance instead of the sword.
It looks like a very clean break in the pic though!!

Well, bugger :-P . Least it won't bug me too much anymore.

Well, you can still use it as decoration. A broken lance stuck in the ground, a spare weapon bolted onto the side of a chariot, etc etc.

With the pennant it does have potential alright!!

That's what I thought of. The wind blown tassels deff helps. Though if my second box ends up like this, I will be greatly....depressed at my poor luck.
