I am kamahl i live in dallas texas and recently had surgery wich left me with alot of time on my hands. So i went to a game workshop and purchase about 500 dollars worth of blood angel stuff. I bought the starter set also so i could have the rule book and other stuff. I have painted all my miniatures wich took me about a month. I have all these nice figures but am lost on how to play. There are so many rules and stuff that its really confusing to me at this point. I went and watched a couple games at the local store and it seamed the guys playing didnt know everything about the game either. So I decided to look for a forum and see if I could better my knowledge of the game. Thanks for having me and I am looking forward to getting to know some people on this forum.

Welcome to the forums. I'm sure we can help you learn the rules.
I learned the rules by playing game after game. I picked up most of the rules from my first game without a rulebook and then learned the more advanced stuff as I played more games and the more advanced rules came into play.
Or you can just read the rulebook and try to learn it that way. But I'm not very good at learning stuff from books, so I found that my way was best.

well thanks for the welcome guys. i had a gastric bypass cause i was over weight. And expla i am in austin all the time usually for a concert at the backroom. maybe i can come down sometime and get learnt a lesson or 2.
Also how do you guys feel about a new guy coming to the weekly meets with an army that has never played. i went last thursday and no one wanted to help me at the local game workshop. so i just watched and tryed to learn.

Well when I went to play for the first time with my mostly unpainted (and never to be painted) Dark Eldar army, I was lucky enough to have someone help me learn the rules while playing against them. They explained what I had to do as I went along. I think they explained too much to me though, as I won the battle :D
You should ask the staff to allow you to join in. Hopefully they will be able to get someone to help you learn the rules as you play like me. Or if not, maybe one of the staff will even play against you and help you to learn the rules, as I've seen staff at my local GW do many times.

the staff always let you win, it wouldn't be much fun if you got horribly beaten in your first game...

I learnt by buying some tropps, going down to GW on sunday when they did beginners day and learnt as i went along. Another great thing was the first sunday i went was a whole day 40k introduction, when they told us about each army, the rules, some fluff etc...it was cool

Yo! We'll help you pick up the rules. It really is pretty simple. I read the rulebook over once and I got it. Not all people are blessed my genius. It's okay to feel inferior. Remember to assault not get assualted.

Welcome to the forums and have fun.
I haven't even touched the rule book. You can learn a lot of the basic stuff in your first game probably. After that you'll have to have more stuff shown to you, but you can pick up.

Ok, let's try and keep it on topic.

a good way to learn is to go to a tournament, most of the people i've seen will help newbs play so just watch and you should pick it up. it is really overwhelming at first but once you get into it it's not hard.

Yeh, khamal could you please list what exactly you have?? Oh and i'm assuming you have the blood angels codex, because the pointas work like this:
On the stat line on a unit in your codex you'll see the name of the model and next to it its points value. You decide how many guys you want in your squad, usually 10 for a tactical squad. You then total up the amount of points of one model x the amount of guys you have in your squad. You continue to do this for your whole army and add all the values of the squads together to get the overall points cost of your entire army!
I hope this has helped! :D

2 space marine army boxs the 100 dollar ones
I got 2 more tanks but dont remember thier names they have a front end loader thing on the front.

You have enough..now..take 3/4 of that stuff and put it away...and start painting. If you start to paint and see what you still have to paint..you'll quickly feel overwhelmed and lose interest altogether
Andy
24th December 2003, 16:20
yipes thats a lot of Blood Angels. You really don't need that many Death Company or Honour Guard though, you'll end up with a lot of spares.
kamahl
24th December 2003, 16:42
i already painted all but 1 honor gaurd cause i been at home for 6 weeks after surgery. and damn if id have known that i could have bought some orks as they caught my eye also
