Hey All,
I am making so many different armies that I might not start this one up for a while, but I'm thinking of starting an army lead by a Farsight figure. While reading through the rules it says that you count Battlesuits as 1+ just like Fire Warriors, I am slightly confused as to what this means. They're still elites right?
I want to make a suit heavy army no surprise there I'm sure, I plan on purchasing lots of the suits from Forgeworld to make the army stand out, so I'll probably be building up slowly. With the army based around a break-off group what should I go for for Anti-tank? Hammerheads will be 0-1 so I'm not sure what to bring with me to pop armor of the 14 variety. Thanks Tau players, I should probably stock up on Fire Warriors and suits first, then go from there.

1+ units means you have to have one of them in your army. And just because you want to be suit heavy does not necessarily mean Farsight army. You can still take 9 crisis suits, 9 broadsides, and 2 3 man command squads in a regular army.

Yeah, I know I odn't need to use Farsight but I don't like Kroot, and I don't like Vespids so there isn't really much use for me to use 'em and I like the added bonus of being somewhat better in CC with Farsight at the helm... obviously I'd write my own fluff of a similar figure although maybe if I got the Forgeworld Kroot stuff I'd play them... but probably not. :)

With Farsight i make simply army:
Farsight and 7bodyguards with ASSAULT weapons
pathfinders and Farsight deepstrike with pathfinders fire all assault weapons and charge=enemy is dead dead dead so DEAD!

I am pretty sure farsight limits your broadside choices though I dont remember exactly since I dont have my codex with me. If that is the case though then you would need to take Fusion Blasters to take out AV14 vehicles.
Also, how many points do you plan on playing?

Yeah Farsight can only have 1 HH, and 88 team each, but there is always room for Skyrays, and FB packing Phirranas & XV-8s
.

Why ASSAULT weapons only? XV-8s are Relentless so all weapons they carry allow them to assault after shooting.

A Limits on the broadside and hammerhead are fine because after 2000pts you can have another force organization chart.
Heck I only have 3 broadsides and 2 hammerheads and I don't always field all of them and I've never had any problems.
I would recomend a 1 full unit of stealth suits with a bunch of gun drones and maybe a couple shield drones just in case. They do have a save of 3+ and strength 4 so they do quite a bit of dmg on the charge.
For more anti-tank you can use some TL-fusion blaster suits, they usually do the trick.

Thanks guys.
For now I'm probably looking at an army that starts small and builds. Probably wouldn't field it before 1500 points though. Farsight himself can cut open vehicles with his CC attack, but I definitely will look at the Fusion blasters on suits.. since you can take three weapons systems I believe.

a fusion drop is just fantastic, more so if its an HQ squad with all the trimmings. if you're lucky with drop scatter / deployment etc. you can destroy three vehicles in one shooting phase with a single squad (even more likely if its below AV13, as MPs can pen it as well)
its one of my favourite tactics against landraiders

If you take
Fusion Blasters
Missile Pods
Burst Cannons
HW Target Lock
HW Multitracker
On each of Farsight's seven bodyguards then you can drop in behind enemy lines and do some serious damage to vehicles and still have the firepower so unleash five shots against infantry per model with the ability to split fire between squads.
It will run you 539 points for the 7 bodyguards plus the cost of farsight but it can deal some massive damage to your opponents

yes, fusion drop teams are great for popping armor. also, if you have a pathfinder's devilfish in LoS you can re-roll the scatter increasing the chances of them going exactly where you want them.

How does that work?

i am also thinking of starting a farsight army, heavy on the crisis suits and some customization. i would like to get some insight from u tau guys as to build suggestions. more so id like some further clarification on farsights army list changes. i know he counts crisis suits and fireworriors as 1+, and that his other units are 0-1, but does he otherwise still follow the army list with limit of 3 elite and 6 troops, or is he allowed to count crisis as troops, or even just allowed as many as he likes. thank you.

Yes, you still have to follow standard force organization, 2 HQ 6 troops 3 elite/HS/FA
or is he allowed to count crisis as troops, or even just allowed as many as he likes. thank you.
Fraid not, he doesnt get to count suits as troops. This special rules is all about fluff, not to give farsight an advantage.
