Spin of from the grand beefs wristwatch topic, what does your cellphone mean to you?

Personally i allways buy a cheap lowtech model and use it untill it brakes down.

Well, i like having access to a keyboard, so i enjoy a clam shell phone, however I don't lean strongly one way or another. I dont use my phone for anything asides texting and calling so i dont need it fancy.

I want mine to do a few things very well:-

1. Make phone calls.

2. Send texts.

3. Good battery life.

4. Rugged.

Optional:-

5. At least average (2mp) camera for those "I wish I had a camera" moments.

So, number 1 for me then!

Working for AT&T mobility, I am required to have a top of the line phone at all times. I find them fairly stupid, and really only use the adobe acrobat reader on them (to look at my pirated codex PDF's). i send a text once in a while (a few a day), and maybe one phone call a day.

I've had my phone for five/six years. Never once thought about changing it.

I just need my phone to call, text, and take pics.

I have never been a huge fan of the telephone. Never really have been. In high school I wasn't even one of those "stay on the phone for hours talking about the latest gossip" girls....(*laughs to herself* that was my sister's realm) Now I am finding that the privateness of the cell phone and the use of texting just to get a simple questioned answered without bothering a person when they are busy to be quite useful.

Well that and the roadside assistance.

I'm happy to have a phone with all the gadgets and gizmos but, I'm not constantly hunting for the latest and greatest. I've got a decent phone and will use it for a few updating cycles before switching when I go for something pretty spiffy.

I chose three options. I chose option 1 because that is what I have right now. I am at my parents mercy when it comes to cell phones. They won't even pay for texting.

I chose option 3 because this is probably what I would do if I had my way. I am a big tech person. I like all the touch screens and cool features, even if I wouldn't use them.

I chose option 4 because this is what I would do if I had the money to constantly have the next best smart phone.

I'm in the same boat, work for Vodafone so gotta be on top of my game handset wise and i find easiest way is to get a phone and learn it and sell it so i normally have a top of teh range handset that i swap every 3 or 4 months.

I like cheap+simple, but I do like getting a new one every so often so that the one I have doesn't completely die

All I want with a cell phone is one that can make and receive calls/texts and is not a nokia all other features I consider a bonus but are not something I look for in a phone though I do like some on my new one.

Our contract at the hospital with our mobile phone vendor means all our phones are Nokias and the amount of problems we have them with them is shocking. Nokia 6121 are the worst 2 day battery life and overheating problems are quite common with them.

I voted "I just buy one i like don't care about the rest" but really I was looking for an option on the lines of "Get a decent, nice one that works and won't break"

I like to get a decent quality mobile phone, I don't care about fancy features, although a good camera/video is a plus even if I never use it. I don't like getting the cheapest one if it's just going to break down fairly soon.

Otherwise I don't care. In the past I didn't use mobiles much, $20 prepaid would last me several months. Now I realise that it's quite useful to ring people up when I'm not at home. Got a $29 per month cap which is plenty, enough that I don't need to use the home phone, just ring people up when I need to and I can have a random 45min long phone call once a month.

I take whatever is free. I have yet to find a cell company that won't just give you a free phone if you ask.

I think mine has Push to Talk and a camera and probably some other shit, but I'm old school - it's a cell phone, it's for emergency phone calls and that's it.

two days is bad?!?! I'm happy if my phone lasts more than 8 hours! and that includes being turned of for 6 of them because I'm at class!

That's one of the reasons i never buy a fancy one, all the extra stuffies absorb huge amounts of your battery, i can safely and honestly say my cellphone who is now +/-3 years old when fully charged and never turned off, lasts for at least 7 days when used often and up to 12days when used occasionally

A battery that lasts long is great but, when do you really need to have 7 days? My phone lasts about a week with me sending about 100 txts a day, about 20 minutes of talk a day and misc. apps. I'd give up 3-4 days worth of battery rather than lose my extras. It's not like I won't be away from an outlet for a whole week. I leave a charger at home and one at work. If I really needed to, I could even put one in my car. Extreme battery life only becomes a real issue when you are talking about phones that have video/music features where you want to get through a whole movie and have your phone still able to function as a phone.

Oh my God. It IS true. I'm the last person on Earth without a cellphone.

What's my view on cellphones? Fuck them to death up the nose in hell with a red hot fork stomped on by seven elephants dipped in shit and set on fire.

Sometimes i am, one or two weeks, without the change to charge my cellphone, not allot of sockets to be found in the middle of a wood (i'm in the army)

I currently do not have one.

Ideally, I'd keep a few things in mind:

Ability to actually make a damn call
Good Coverage
Flashlight
Durability
Anti-Theft device (I.E., heavy enough to give someone a concussion.)

I've tried newer, 'better' phones, and they generally just piss me off.

I have a gameboy with some decent games, so why do I want shit on my phone?
I have a phone so I can actually -talk- to someone over long distances, so why the fuck am I regressing to text-based-messaging?
I normally have a camera on me, so.. well, you get the idea.
