Hi Guys,
I just need to know what you are doing with your experience and what equipment you are sporting to start off with (if you are not using experience :-S then let me know anyways). You can post here or in the discussion thread. Remember the adventure starts off with a raid on an apartment in downtown Havana. You may choose the time.
Players:
1 Kilroy (Kurt Mueller-Special Forces)
2 Durandal (Robert Marino-Spy)
3 Tarion (Jack Sanderson-Killer)
4 LefthandedYeti (Erick Liu-Ninja)
5 EC (Lavo Grunnberg-Big Bruiser)
6 DrakonTheNightLord (Drakon 'Red' Knight-Techie)
Wait List
1 Tom206
Other helpful things:
Experience from Adventure 2
So experience is:
Base + Misc = experience
Base XP
Everyone gets 6 base xp
Misc XP
Yeti gets 1 misc xp for saving the priest.
So.... that everyone's xp is as follows (including previous xp)
EC 14
Tarion 16
Yeti 11
Dur 12
Kilroy 6
 For reference, your characters stats are posted here:http://40kforums.com/phpBB3/dark-shadows-2-cape-town-take-down-characters-t68616.html
Spending Experience
Here's what you can do with experience:
New Fu Powers cost ( 3 + x ) xp per power. x = the number of fu schticks you will have once you gain this new one.
New Gun Schticks cost ( 8 + x ) xp per schtick. x = the number of Gun schticks you will have once you gain this new one. You can't get new gun schticks if your action value in guns is LESS than 12.
New skills cost ( 8 + x ) xp. x = your rating in the base attribute of the skill. In order to learn a new skill you must undergo a training montage.
Skill bonuses: You can increase by 1 a bonus in a skill you already know by spending experience equal to the new Action value you will have once you increase the skill.
Attributes:
To raise a primary attribute by 1 costs (8x) xp. X=your attribute rating once you raise it.
To raise a secondary attribute by 1 costs (4x) xp. X=your attribute rating once you raise it.
Just pm or post here about how you want to use your xp.
Wait There's More!
Do you have any regrets about your character? Don't! Put too many points into fry-cookery and not enough into kick-assery? Don't worry!
If you want to redesign your character, use a different archetype or even start over with a new character, you can! And you get to KEEP all of your xp. This offer applies to anyone up to and including their third adventure.

Don't overwhelm me all at once...
Guys I'm going to start the game in 3-4 games.
Please let me know what you want to beef up with xp. My advice is to raise your Martial Arts, guns, or pick up a schtick. It's really not hard. If you have 14 in guns and want 15 it will cost you 15 points.

Okay, so I kind of didn't understand the whole system with XP and stuff. But I'd like to do some changes, if possible:
Remove all skill points invested in driving.
Dividing as many skill points as I can between Intimidation and Martial arts. Would that be possible?

That would be possible. I'll need to look at that when I get home.
/confused at the number of threads
Sorry. There should only be 3 thread of concern to you:
1) The game thread in active games.
2) The rules and discussion thread in the discussion forum.
3) The characters thread in the discussion forum.
I've made a separate thread for the characters for ease of reference. I didn't want your characters getting buried if there was a lot of posts in the rules thread.
All of the links I have posted link to posts in one of these three threads.

Your starting skills were:
1 Guns +3 8 (Max 10)
2 Info:Your Choice +2 (9)
3 Intimidation +4 11
4 Martial arts +7 (=12)
You had 6 points to put into your skills.
You put 2 into guns, 2 into drive, and I have no clue what happened to the other points.
So I am guessing you want to keep the 2 in guns, drop 2 from drive and then put 4 into intimidation?
Your skills would look like this:
1 Guns 10
2 Info:Bouncer 9
3 Intimidation 15
4 Martial arts 12
Does that work for you?
As for xp, if you wanted you could raise any of your skills by +1 except for Intimidation (which would cost 16 points to raise to 16).

Escape Artist schtick I suppose.
Sure.
Most schticks cost 8 + x xp so I will set pulp schticks, drive schticks, and other misc. schticks at this level.
So this will cost you 8 + 1 (1 being the amount of pulp schticks you will have after buying this schtick) = 9 xp.

I would like to switch out all the points I have in Fix-it.
So I'd like 3 in guns, 3 in martial arts, 3 in deceit, and 2 in intrusion.
I'd also like to buy the "Fade" pulp schtick - do I need to take a limitation too?
EDIT: And do we need to submit loadouts for our characters?

Hmm, I'll have to see your archetype to see if you can take anything out of fix-it or add anything to martial arts.
Fade will cost you 9 xp; no you don't need to take a limitation.

Right my signature weapons are my Desert Eagles from last time (2x Handguns, Desert Eagle .50 Magnum, 12/3/9+1, 1, P) which I've been using pretty solidly all the way through.
They're "signature" because he never goes anywhere without them. Used through all the missions so far, and (I think) have racked up the highest mook kill count with them ( :P ). They're treated lovingly, and with care
Also going to pack the same short sword as before, hidden beneath clothing. Silencers for my pistols (which are holstered at my belt beneath my long coat).
We're going in a car, yeah? Going to load a sniper rifle into the boot of it.
Can anyone think of any eventualities I've missed? Not packing anything for dealing with seriously tough targets (Like say... tanks, or the Destroyer from the first mission).

Just a reminder, the mission specs are this:
You are all flying into Havana to wipe out a terrorist cell. They are holed up in an apartment building in downtown Havana. You will be working with a CIA intel team who has been tracking them.
As for equipment requisition, you can have anything that might be reasonably used in the mission. Guns, explosives, small gadgets are fine. More... 'interesting' items will need a damn artful explanation.
I'm skipping making someone a team leader since the role hasn't been too important over the last few missions, but if you want to elect a leader that's fine.

You can use anything allowed to you with your skills. So you can make use of any firearm or hand to hand weapon you want (within reason).
Since you are so damn strong you can double wield weapons that normal folks couldn't (e.g. shot guns/M60s). You can also carry and use vehicle or tripod mounted weapons.
But you won't be able to get a minigun for this mission if you are wondering...

Okay, your martial arts and intrusion skills are fixed at creation so you can't change your starting level. They can be increased through xp though.
Of your 6 skill bonuses:
You put 2 extra points into fix-it. those can be reclaimed.
You put 1 extra point into guns and having reached your starting maximum of 11.
You put 1 extra point into deceit. Your max starting deceit is 12 and you are at 11.
You also put 2 extra points into Information: chemistry. I remember that you wanted computers. On consideration I would allow that if you wanted it.

Ah I forgot fix-it was a starting skill. In that case leave my skills as they were. Since the campaign's time period is a little bit before widespread use of computers chemistry fits better. I kinda like the Martial-artist assassin build I've got going.
For my loadout, I'd like my silenced colt and two extra mags in a shoulder holster/concealed carry rig. Combat knife on my belt. All hidden under a long sleeve button up shirt. I'd also like an MP5SD with 4 magazines in a backpack.

Yeti you might want to consider taking a skill point and putting it into this schtick:
New Class Specific Schticks :
* Ninja, Extra Sneaky: When making Intrusion rolls to avoid being seen, you get +2 to your AV and can make use of cover that others can't. If your GM is applying Difficulty modifiers to intrusion checks due to poor cover, bright lighting , and so forth, your GM should adjust the Difficulty down by 2 for Ninja's with Extra Sneaky. Note that this only applies to not being detected - it doesn't help when using Intrusion to pick locks , crack safes, defeat security systems etc.
o To get this schtick during character creation, use 1 skill
bonus. To add this schtick to your already existing Ninja,
spend 12 experience points.

Tuesday March 9 2010
Havana, Cuba
Cuba: the jewel of the Caribbean. In 1952 former president, Fulgencio Batista, regained power in a military coup. Though previously a social reformer, Batista's new reign turned the once thriving country into an oppressive kleptocracy.
"The corruption of the Government, the brutality of the police, the regime's indifference to the needs of the people for education, medical care, housing, for social justice and economic justice ... is an open invitation to revolution." ”
— Arthur M. Schlesinger, Jr.
Alarmed at the Batista regime's close ties to the American Italian Mafia, and by implication Italy and the other axis powers, the American government grew increasingly alarmed at the deterioration of Cuba and in 1953 finally took action to overthrow Batista.
The efforts were led by a little known Cuban baseball player and then successful corporate lawyer, Fidel Alejandro Castro Ruz. Leading a rag tag band of CIA backed revolutionaries, Castro returned to Cuba in 1953 at led a successful revolution which toppled the Batista regime in 1958.
Castro, a wily politician and an ardent free-market devotee, took power and transformed Cuba into a corporate paradise.
However, as with most staged revolutions things did not go exactly as American had hoped. Castro was as much a dictator as Batista, though he was less obvious about it.
On his rise to power, Castro smashed all workers' unions, eradicated the various communist parties and privatized all sectors of the Cuban government. Of course he made sure that the corporations that took over the various sectors were controlled by his friends and family (he himself took up the position of CubaCom, Cuba's largest security provider). Castro also engaged in a bloody and very messy war to root out the Italian mafia in Cuba. After several years of nasty covert warfare at home and abroad, Castro succeeded, and promptly replaced the Italian run criminal organizations with Cuban run criminal organizations which were also run by Castro.
America was not happy with this. But they could live with a non-fascist dictatorship on their doorstep.
Sixty years after the revolution Cuba is still the jewel of the Caribbean and Castro still rules over the island with an iron fist. The contrasts of Cuban life are notorious. It is home to the headquarters of most of the world's major corporations and is the playground of the rich and famous. It also sees some of the harshest poverty in the world. You can have anything you want in Cuba, if you can pay for it... or steal it. For those with neither money nor guns life is a squalid and fierce fight for survival.
You have been sent to Cuba to eliminate Black Dawn, a fascist revolutionary cell, which has been active throughout South America.
On your arrival yesterday you met with Ernesto Sanchez, one of the program's spooks who has been tracking Black Dawn for the last year. He and five other intelligence agents discovered that Black Dawn is using Havana as a base of operations for their South American operations.
Every member of Black Dawn is now in Havana for several days. The time to strike is now.
Which is where you come in.
----------------------
Okay, Black Dawn is holed up a six story apartment building. Sanchez and his crew have determined they are in apartment 408. Apparently, Black Dawn is tied to the Saldurtuns crime family. In exchange for services, Black Dawn gets their security and a safe house.
What's the plan? When are how are you going in?

I've got a couple of ideas. First is we send someone in, claiming they're here to visit a relative. That person, covered by sniper fire from the surrounding buildings, will kill the guards on the roof. This will allow us to make it our beachhead.
Second is simply storming the building. Sanderson covers us with sniper fire. We pop the guards at the bottom, leave someone to guard the back and front. The rest move up the building, systematically purging the nazis from the building.

So if I am reading this correctly:
Lavo and Marino take the front.
Drakon and Liu take the back.
Mueller and Sanderson are up on a rooftop together and covering them.
Right?
Okay, you still need to answer these questions:
What time of day do you want to do this?
How are you dressed? How are sporting your weapons and equipment?
How are you getting to the site and how are you leaving?
Do you have any plans for once you get into the building?
Are you coordinating this somehow?

FYI
I would also strongly recommend that you read through your skills description in the skills pdf in the rules thread (first post I think).
This adventure (speaking generally) will require some resourcefulness and creativity from you so you need to know what you can do and access.
You should especially remember that most skills have an active, knowledge and social aspect. They allow you to do something, know something about the skill and know people involved with the skill subject.
For example, guns allows you to use ranged weapons. It also gives you broad knowledge about ranged weapons (the weapons themselves, weapon makers etc). You also have contacts in the gun community. You'd know sellers, designers, gun nuts etc. Some skills also have... interesting complications for those who use them.
You have been [s:1zqq3yd2]warned[/s:1zqq3yd2] informed.

There's 4 of them up there, and as good as my Guns skill is, I doubt I can get them before they do some damage/raise the alarm.
Oh, and Grim, not going to make the same mistake as last time. 4 spare clips for my pistols, taped to my legs.

Well, I guess it is a good thing I can walk up to the front door and do a deceit/info-politics combo.
So are you using your deceit skill make a disguise (like Mission Impossible) or to bluff them? If you are disguising yourself then please tell me who are are disguising yourself as. If you are going to bluff them you need to have a plausible reason to give them (so think one up).
Okay, I am getting the impression that this is going down at night. What time of night? Dusk? Early evening? Midnight? Early morning?
Lavo, how are you sporting those 2 shotguns of yours?
Marino, your remote mines are carried in a brief case.
Another general note, people with the fix-it skill have a type of "utility belt" (or whatnot) specific to their archetype. So you can whip out a gadget whenever you want by making a fix-it check. Spies and ninjas have a espionage (James Bond, Mission Impossible etc.) 'utility belt,' while techies have a gadgeteer type of tool belt.

Early morning will make it difficult. We might not have enough time to clear the building before the sun comes up. However, I doubt the gang members would call the cops on us, seeing as how they're gang members.
Um... If we go in at night we have the advantage of darkness, but seeing as how it'd be nighttime, the guards would probably be more tense.
Would those of us that work with gangs and such (Sanderson has a skill called Info: Gang Politics or something similar) be able to hire some outside help? Maybe cause a distraction to draw the guards away from the building and we can sneak in undetected?

Personally, for time, I think the operation should take place just after evening, as the sun is about to go down.
My plan currently has EC and I posing as a technician and field agent for the sanitation company, attempting to pinpoint a potential break in the sewage line (which would end up costing a lot of money for a lot of people), and the building is our last stop of the night. We still have a sniper/getaway driver to back us up, and two people at the back door. Depending on how far we get, EC and I will either clear the front room, or plant a mine in the basement to serve as a distraction.

Time: Early Morning (2am)
Marino and Lavo: Front Door
Liu and Red: Back Door
Sanderson: Sniper (distant roof)
Mueller: Get-Away (few blocks down) WHAT ARE YOU DRIVING?
Lavo and Marino pose as a technician and field agent for the sanitation company, attempting to pinpoint a potential break in the sewage line (which would end up costing a lot of money for a lot of people), and the building is their last stop of the night. Sanderson and Mueller will be a sniper/getaway driver to back them up, and Liu and Red will enter at some point through the back door. Depending on how far we Lavo and Marino get, they will either clear the front room, or plant a mine in the basement to serve as a distraction.
Red: I'll be dressed as a man in a suit, carrying my FAMAS in a brief case, posing as an expat coming back from work. Guns in holster, knives inside suit.

Liu: Khaki pants, white T-Shirt, button up shirt. My pistol in a concealed holster and the mags under my arm in a concealed rig. My MP5 is in a custom duffle bag slung over my shoulder.
Lavo: (I guess he is hauling his gear in a work bag/big utility box)
Mueller: gear in van

You're up 8 stories. You can't see what the guys on the ground are carrying but the ones up top are sporting M16s and Mac 10s. They are also using run of the mill walkie talkies and listening to a battery operated radio.

The two guards at the front door look at each other and frown. One speaks into his walkie-talkie, "Some guys from SanCorp are here; there's trouble with the pipes. What? Me? Comemierda! Get that lazy whore Juan out."
He looks at you. "Hold on."
After a few moments the door swings open. A small man in jeans, no shirt and a shotgun pokes his head out the door.
"Juan! Take these two down to the basement to look at the pipes."
Juan gives him a dirty look to which the man with the walkie talkie jerks forward as if to hit him. Juan shrinks back, "Okayyyy... learn to take a joke already."
He opens the door for you to enter.
The air inside is thick and vile with the reek of cooking oil and cigarettes. The walls inside are covered with graffiti and every foot or so sees a hole punched into the plaster. A bum lays sleeping in the corner of the front lobby in a puddle of urine. A least half the lights are burnt out in the building. Looking down one hall you see a couple having a heated argument in the hallway.
Juan turns to you, "The basement is down this way."

Sorry, way awful failure for you.
You jump into the room knives at the ready. Sadly, while you are a proficient fighter, this task is far beyond your skill. Two of your knives go flying at your enemies while you reach for the others (fyi you had 4 knives iirc). Fumbling the attempt you land in a sprawl on the floor. Hearing a groan you look up and stare in disbelief. One of the knives has embedded itself in the wall beside one shocked gangster's head, while the other knife... it appears the other knife struck one gangster square in the forehead, but only penetrated a centimeter or two into the gangster's skull. With a terrified look on his face he holds his hands to his head and peers up at the knife screaming "Mi cabeza! Mi cabeza!"
One woman standing beside the table faints while the gangsters pull their guns with a shout.

Sanderson: You see a man on the roof listening to a walkie talkie. He sudden waves his hand at the doorway to the rest of the guards and shouts something to them. Four of them make for the door while the two remaining guards peer down at the front and rear entrances. Looking down you see the two guards at the front pull their weapons and run inside.

First off, anything that looks like it'll go boom on the roof? (Always worth asking). A water tower where I could disable a support would work too :P
If not, I'm going to aim to take out the first guy running towards the door, hopefully causing a wonderful explosion of bone, blood and brains. I'm going to repeat this for as many of them as I can get before they get to the door (Obviously, depending on shot sequence)

No water towers or things that would go boom on the roof. You'd probably need a .50 cal sniper rifle for taking down a water tower.
If not, I'm going to aim to take out the first guy running towards the door, hopefully causing a wonderful explosion of bone, blood and brains. I'm going to repeat this for as many of them as I can get before they get to the door (Obviously, depending on shot sequence)
You take aim and fire at the group running to the door. The lead guard drops as his head explodes in a red haze. The remaining five guards drop and take cover. One of them pokes his head up from behind the parapet and you relieve him of his life as well. A few seconds later another brings up his M16 and strafes your position. Bullets hail down around you but you drop down into cover and are unharmed.

Leaning into the doorway you see the room is a smoking wreck. Money and a fine white powder fill the air as they drift about lazily while women scream and shriek in Spanish. Part of the rear wall has been blown out exposing the room beyond.
Just then a gangster pops out from behind the doorway of the rear room. He fires several rounds at you and disappears back behind the door as you return fire.
Red cover Liu's back, looking down the stairs for anyone coming.

Red 13
Sanderson 12
Liu 11
Mueller 10
Marino 10
Saldurtuns Crime Gang 9
Lavo 7
Red will keep watch over the stairwell, using his superman goggles to aid him in this.
Slipping on your goggles you see four gangsters are charging down the stairs towards you. You duck back around the doorway and watch their heat signatures approach the doorway. Spinning out you spray them with your FA MAS and they drop to the floor. Looking down through the floor you see three others approaching but they have stopped with the sound of your gunfire. They raise their weapons and shoot through the floor of the landing. You jump back into the hallway, pull out a grenade and toss it down into the stair well (shot 10).
BOOM!
Silence.
I'm going to continue trying to take out the rooftop soldiers, keeping them away from the door, while keeping my own head down.
Crawling quickly to a different position you pop up and put a bullet through another gangster's head (shot 12) and then another (shot 11) (carnival of carnage). Ducking down you make a mental note: one left... ten feet to the side of the last one I shot. Popping up again you drop him as he was about to fire on you (shot 10). Nobody moves on the rooftop, but what else was going to happen? You sigh and pack up your gear.
Liu looks over his shoulder and shouts, "Estamos Policia! Ve ustedes a vos cuartos!"
Shot 11
Liu motions to Marino to watch his back and enters the room, moving to the side of the rear door.
Marino's not here and it looks like Red is busy.
Moving to the door another gangster pops up behind the gaping hole in the wall. You deftly drop him with your silenced colt and spring to the side of the rear door. Looking inside the room you see at least 8 women wearing face masks and dressed in only their underwear huddled against the far wall whimpering. The room is filled with tables and on the tables you see plastic bags filled with white powder, boxes of baking soda, playing cards, and wax paper.
I'm waiting for a response.
