Hello, All Y'All!
Allright, with my return to these forums, I thought I'd show y'all what I've been doing to keep my hobby-ing genes in check.

Backround story, in short:
Basically, My cadre is an auxiliary cadre consisting of Gue'vesa warriors. However, instead of relying on trustworthy recent converts, this Cadre draws it's reruits from the growing numbers of Gue who have never known how it is like to live under imperial rule, but who instead have grown up as proper Tau citizens, and for whom the Tau'Va and the concept of the Greater Good are as deeply rooted as it is in any Tau.
With the Fire Caste currently scattered around the empire due to the Third Phase expansion, these forms of Auxiliary cardres have become more common, requiring only a handfull of trained tau Firewarriors in order to train and lead the Human Helpers and develop them to their ultimate potential in the pursuit of the greater good.
These Cadres are mainly employed as Planetary defence forces and sort of act as the "officer on patrol" in order to keep the peace within their close proximity. However, these Humans are not inferior to the average Shas'el, and thus they sometimes, like any cadre, are assigned other tasks, most notably battles against other Gue'la where they can act as a shining example of the gains of joining the Empire(When you're standing there with your lasgun flashlight in your papiermache-flak armour and your best buddy was just shot by a commisar, a Pulse Rifle and a better health-insurance might not seem like such a bad idea.)

Models:
I'm doing a winter-themed army with some inspiration from the rebels on Hoth in The Empire Strikes Back. I've modeled all my Firewarrior Shas'la to be Humans with pulse rifles and Tau Armour, each lead by a tau Shas'ui with a bit of extra tau-ishness added to it, in order to make them stand out. I've also given each of the Leaders some trophies such as ork skulls and the likes, to give the impression that these guys are true veterans. Apart from that, each squad has been given a Spotter, a Communications Officer, and, hopefully soon, I'll give them each a medic too. It doesn't fill any function game-wise, but I like to give some flavour to my models.

Finally, the List:

HQ:
100 Shas'El, Plasma Rifle, Missile Pod, Targeting array, Hard-wired Multi-tracker, Hard-wired Blacksun Filter

whats with the odd points cost....you could be accused of hiaving a highly tailored army....

I mean sometimes the reason for a points limit is to work within the limit and attempt to push the limits of the army.

But it is a good list, its a Tau mecha list...just wondering about the odd pts limit.

Your Tau and you've only got like mid-40's models? Is that really...safe? It seems to me like you'll get shot up quickly, tho i dont know, i dont play Tau.

The only thing I'd change is the equipment on your Devilfish. An SMS implys that you plan on keeping them out of LOS, which can't be done if they are transporting your Fire Warriors around. Also, they are very fragile for such expensive upgrades.

You could free up a lot of points by keeping the fish in their transport/burst cannon role, possibly buying more Fire Warriors and Marker lights for their Shas'ui.

Drop the smart missiles on the devil fish, and give them the burst cannons instead. Piranahs are ok I guess... May think about trying 3 squads of one. Save 75 points, and they get to fire at different things. Also, you may want to try droping a rail gun and giving one hammer head a ion blaster(is that what it is called?). It may seem strange, but trust me. It is a lot cheaper, and will kill well more than it is worth.

With these points you may want to boost your squads of fire warriors to 12. This will give you a few more bodies. Also, you should be able to beef up your suit sqads. Try a deep striking squad of them. Give them plasma and fusion. This will make them able to deep strike and destroy whatever you need(indirect fire and the like). If you do not have the points for plasma fusion, try Missle pod melta.

Good list all round though.

I used this army list and crushed my friend. Were both good players; he was using 'crons and i forced his phase out. very good all around :)

Congrats! Can you give us an after action report? I love hearing about Tau victorious almost as much as I love hearing about Necrons getting smashed. :-)

You used my list in a game? I'm flattered!

I'm glad it worked out, I've tried to make it good against MEQs, since good saves and high durability can be annoying even against Pulse Rifles. Any comments on parts that need re-doing?

And yes, please post a battle-report!

its a very nice list, but i would drop the stealth suits. they tend to die and they can be more guys. i would grab a broadside or some fire warriors (sry no tau 'dex so i forget how much stuff is)

id also drop one of the fire warrrior transports for some more guys and send those 10 a-runnin'. you'll find that more dice and more saves will get you in there at the end, vs. a slight draw or loss

Dropping the Stealths would acctually let me buy a Broadside. And I have been thinking about getting one, since my Hammerhead railguns so far have proven to be somewhat of a dissapointment in the Tank-hunting division(It's only one bloody shot at BS4 after all... for 170-something points!).

However, that would turn my list a bit more static, since the Broadside wouldn't be able to keep up with the rest of my army.

I'll proxy one the next time I play a game, and I'll see how he does for himself.

You trade one Rail Fun for one Ion Cannon instead of two Railguns, then drop the suits for a broadside, and spend the remaining points on protecting the said broadside. So you would have broadside, railgun, ioncannon. Just make sure to keep the broadside alive, the ASS helps. And your opponent is really going to wanna kill it, via instant death or something.

Other than that I really love mech tau, it just seems so right. I plan on using a list simularly when I get up to 1500 points.

I love the pirahna too. Its fast, and it shoots tanks like nobodies business. Also great armor too.

The general rule of thumb that I use for my Tau Lists is a railgun for every 500 points. It tends to work well in most cases, as Fire warriors don't carry heavy weapons and Crisis suits can only get up to Str. 8 max. (sure it's fusion but that means it's only 12" :? )

I wouldn't worry too much about the numbers of Fire warriors as they are already bonded, and whatever you FoF shouldn't be left standing anyways.

Good List Mask.

Mech Tau FTW

I think its a good list.

Even the SMS on the Devilfishs are fine. In 1750pts the enemy probably has a good number of antitank weapons so ya gotta be watchful.

I got no complaints.

nec-ro-mancy...again...

warfish are too expensive. just keep them to decoys and MTs and thel work fine. Dont bother bonding mounted teams as theyre all or nothing units (i.e. either they win, or they die trying). Railheads are fine, piranhas are fine, I'd say drop the team leader crisis suit for a couple more stealths or drop something else with the other points youve saved. Add 2 fire warriors to each unit to get the most out of the expensive devilfish. All in all, good list but there are a few things that need adressing, IMO.

I'm not advocating necromancy, I just didnt want to be accused of spamming so I put asome content in the post. Can we let dead threads lie again, please?

I have one question, if your claiming to have made a "Gue'vesa" Tau army why don't you use the special rules for them?
Is this meant to be just a conversion (i.e. human looking Tau) or actually meant to be a proper Gue'vesa list? If so the points costs and things need to be addressed.

As a Tau army on its own though I think this list is competent. While it's true what's being said about the 'fish the SMS does give them an extra shot and a +6" range so I can see why you went with it even if it is a tad on the expensive side.

Personally I think a good strategy with the 'fish is to leave the drones in (which come for free pts wise) and detach them. They may die easy but thanks to their jet packs they can be a major annoyance, force pinning and force leadership tests by parking them in front of your more frail units.
