I just watched this Kubrick/Spielberg film again with more mature and intelligent eyes. The last time I watched it, I was a kid, got bored halfway through and left. However, this time I got through to the end, and I'm left feeling depressed and unnerved. Of course Kubrick films are known for this, but a pure Kubrick film has never had this kind of impact on me. The sentimentality that Spielberg seems to have attempted to inject into the ending just made even more disturbing.
I'm left not knowing what to think. Do I like it, because it was an ingenious film that affected me on a depressive scale more than The Road, and left me more horrified than any Horror film has managed before, balancing a perfect juxtaposition...or do I dislike it, because of how badly it affected me and how the ending felt disjointed and slightly forced? I can't decide whether I thought it was a good film or not, but what did you all think of it?

Decent enough but a bit stupid in places.

I liked it, though the whole pinochio fixation was kinda weird.

I saw it when i was a kid, and it freaked me out so bad that i had nightmares i think. Its creepy, and depressing...
I watched bits of it a while ago, and its still creepy and depressing, expecially the teddy bear. :(
I thought it was sorta dull at some parts, but the majority of the time, it was pretty freaky.

I really do think I need to watch it again, at least the ending. I'm still undecided as to whether I actually like it or not. I hate films like this :smt011

I luuuuuuuuuuv this movie for the sole fact that it's one of the few films that has actually touched my soul. It's so tragic that it almost hurts, yet uplifting in some way. I don't know if my feelings about this film really come across, but I can say that there are few films in the world that have affected me as A.I. has. I'm actually surprised that it hasn't found its way into my collection :o

I think you've kind of explained my dilemma better than I could. Never before has a film struck me so hard that it actually hurt, and yet made me feel positive at the same time.

I think I should go and watch this movie again some time soon. I've grown since I last watched it and have also developed a liking of serious science fiction.

I should watch it, though I have to wonder if it was based off of anything from Phillip K Dick, like Blade Runner was. Total Recall is supposedly the same, though I can't think of the book title at the moment.

It was based on a short story called Supertoys Last All Summer Long by Brian Aldiss. It also has similarities to a poem by William Butler Yeats and (of course) Pinocchio.

I shall have to track those down, thank you.
