The sounds of machinery and men resonate all around the docking bay. Goods are moved to and fro from the dark bellies of the cargo haulers, each man and loader simply another insignificant cog in the great machine that keeps the Imperium of Man moving. Each one of you make your way to the Brazen Sky of your own accord, and as you arrive, you are quickly brought to a dirty, disheveled crew quarters. Soon, you are with the five other Acolytes accompanying you on your mission. Oddly, as your trial by fire, your Inquisitor has volunteered you to a colleague of his for this mission.
As you all arrive in the quarters, a member of the crew enters the room.
"Ah, so the servants of our glorious God-Emperor have arrived!" His eyes beam, looking for attention.
"My name is Sebek, and it will be my absolute pleasure to service you for the duration of your journey. The Brazen Sky might not seem like much, but I assure you that anything can be given if you need it. After all, out here, the truly important detail is how large of the Throne you sit on, if you know what I mean." He then quickly makes the sign of the Aquila over his chest, mumbling a prayer. Perhaps he feared disrespect?
"If you need anything at all, just call!"
With that he leaves, and you are left with the rest of the cell. You've each been chosen by this Inquisitor after passing a test, knowingly or not, so your faith in yourself is strong. But, can you rely on the others?

You will be spending the next three days, game time, traveling to Iocanthos. What is it that you do or discuss during this time? You will be landing on Saturday morning, moving to the next segment of the game.

He finds another cargo hold and, peering around to ensure noone is watching, slips in and starts rummaging through whatever is inside. A bit doubtful this time, Vern wonders if this ship has been requisitioned by the Inquisition and is actually not hauling any cargo. His stomach growls a bit so he decides if nothing is found here he'll instead head to the galley and fond himself some food.

You spot a vox panel by the door, along with a list of contact channels, the first of which is marked "Sebek."

You begin to make your way to the main hold you saw coming through the ship.

Search roll-80. So you know, that equates to 6 degrees of failure. Which usually means bad things happen.
As you look through the hold, you accidently pull on the wrong thing; you narrowly avoid being crushed as piles of cargo fall to the ground. Quickly, you make your way out before someone finds you.

As he gets to the main hold, he looks around for signs of anything that he can put to use, as well as keeping an eye out for any side-rooms that might contain some useful equipment.
While looking through the hold, a man stops you. As you turn around to face him, he speaks. "Ah, fellow brother of the Omnissiah, would you be able to provide me with some assistance?" You can tell by his robes that he is a Ranking Tech-priest, in addition to the numerous modifications, implants, and mechadendrites about his person.

Scythia says, trying her best to sound happy and nice despite being bored and trapped on a ship with a group of smelly fools.
"Why certainly ma'am, I'll be right up. Is there anything else I may do to be of service?" you hear him reply from the crackling vox unit.

Checks the crates labels while looking for some one he can req supplies from in-case asking turns into taking
You find mostly common supplies; food, fabrics, some metals and ores. As you look up, you find a security officer staring down at you. "May I help you, sir?" he says in a gruff voice.

Vern sprints from the hold and keeps running, not looking back until he makes it to the galley!

Caroline finishes her prayers and decides to walk the ship, to find anyone in need of the Emperor's word.

"As I've said, I'm happy to help. Lead the way."
You follow the tech-priest deep into the hold of the ship, and aid him in the preparations for the repairs. Finally, everything is in place. "Alright, friend, simply keep the machine spirits calm, while I go and find the source of their disturbance." he says, pointing towards a system of regulators and a basic cognigator unit. With that, he moves into the darkness of the inner spaces of the craft, his two servo-arms aiding him.
Tech-Use, Routine difficulty (+20)–69 or lower to pass. Result–12, 5 degrees of success.
You keep the energy systems under complete control, with no odd fluctuation. The machine spirits, so calmed by your labors, are able to better communicate with the senior Enginseer. He emerges from the inner parts of the vessel. "Wonderful work! Truly, you've been gifted by the Omnissiah. And such aid should not go unrewarded." The two of you set off to his small temple-forge in the heart of the ship. You receive 40 thrones.
The task takes roughly ten hours.
I'm wrapping up this segment of the game (it isn't supposed to last very long), so this is your last action.

Argus reaches the crew hold shortyly before Sebek.
Adressing Argus, Zable, and Scythia, he starts.
"From my lists, we'll be able to sell you las charge packs at 12 thrones a pack, various bullets for 5 thrones per hundred. I've also got a few frag grenades for 8 thrones a pineapple. I figured you'd want to know the munitions specifics first."
" But this," he begins, pulling out an odd looking round, "this is the house special. Executioner round. Very powerful. Very rare. 15 thrones a round."
Executioner rounds- These rounds have simple guidedence and propolsion systems. When fired at targets who are not at long or extreme range, you get an additional +10 to hit, and may reroll a failed hit. Targets do not benefit from cover when fired at by these rounds. You must 'Aim' before you fire to gain these bonuses.

Caroline looks deep into Verns eyes, assessing his spiritual well being. "You have much fear in your eyes, know that the Emperor will protect you if you ask for it." Caroline places a hand on Verns shoulder and mutters a small blessing before moving on throughout the ship.
Soon after, you hear the sounds of crying. Moving towards it, you find yourself in the doorway to a security officer's room. You see him seated, his micro-shrine assembled upon his desk, his knuckles white from the death-grip he has around his Aquilla necklace.

Wide eyed and slack jawwed, Vern just stands in the corridor as the Battle Sister walks away from him. He turns into the galley to get something to settle his now churning belly.

The three day journey passes, with nothing of particularity importance occurring. The ship safety exits out of the Warp within Iocanthos's system, and quickly finishes the journey. However, the exit is not without discomfort; you all feel a sudden lurch and a sickening, wrenching sensation, as you hear the Drive cores and Gellar field power down. Shortly after, Sebek arrives at your quarters. "Well, glad that is done with," he starts. "Now, you all must pack your things and head down to Forward Hold 2/DZ015 for your debarkation to Iocanthos." He awaits with a smile on his ashen face, ready to lead the way.
You all head out to Forwar Hold 2/DZ015. Inside the hold you see a lighter, a modest surface to orbit transport vessel, with the access hatch open, while several workers finish up loading miscellaneous cargo. A deck officer approaches Sebek, and takes a data-slate from him.
"Honored guests, you must depart." Sebek says to you, with a bow, before returning to the massive belly of the ship.

Bright daylight can bee seen from the viewports, and you are greeted with one of the most awe-inspiring views in the sector; the land below appears as if it is in an eruption of holy flames, as you gaze upon the fields of Ghostfire flowers.

Encircling the landing area is a high wire fence and looming above that, the brooding metal-clad walls of the settlement of Port Suffering.
The air smells foul, of chemicals, propellants and cleaning agents, but beneath the odours one would expect of such a place, there's a faint and sweet smell of iron.
As you leave, you see dozens of grimy-faced workers moving about, refueling the lighter, cleaning the hull, and unloading supplies. Within mere seconds, a blotchy-faced official approaches you, wearing dusty and once-fine navy-blue robes trimmed in gaudy gold chains. To either side of him are large men wearing re-breathers casually cradling shotguns.

At this point, all of your gear has been unloaded. As you begin to gather your things, a tiny, battered cherubim servitor flutters towards you, with its cracked and dirty cherubic face beaming. It looks like a child, held aloft in the air on tarnished metallic wings, with pearls in place of its eyes. It silently hands you a parchment adorned with a seal recognizable as the cipher of your Inquisitor's personal cadre. The parchment instructs you to follow the cherub to Aristarchus, who "awaits the pleasure of meeting you."

You begin to follow the cherub as it makes its way through town. As you begin to make your way deeper into the settlement, you notice just how much of a crowded, ramshackle, and archaic place it is. Its buildings and structures are a mismatch of pre-fab metal sheeting, clay brickwork faced with crumbling plaster, and stone blocks baking in the sun. Everything and everyone one is drab and dusty, hot and reeking of scorched metal. The locals, as you notice, are grimy and hard-faced, and have a scavenged appearance, wearing patched coveralls, headscarves, and coats, most stained a flat gray-brown with dust.
The main streets are a sea of workers, and you feel the press of people as you attempt to keep pace with your servitor-guide. You can barely hear yourself think over the din of a hundred dialects, and a hundred more different sounds of industry. All the while, the strange, iron-sweet stink of Ghostfire hangs heavy in the air, mingling with the heat and stink of too many people crammed into a single space.
The servitor easily floats above the ever-present throng of people, almost oblivious to your struggle to keep up. Occasionally, it will look back and realize you are lagging beyond, at which point it patiently waits and waves until you catch up, before quickly speeding off again.

Vern stays a bit away from the confrontation, picking up a nice piece of fruit from a nearby stand and casually walking off munching on it, all the while keeping one eye on his companions.
As you are walking down the alley towards a fruit stand, you hear a loud ruckus behind you and quickly turn around.

Scythia raises an eyebrow to the very unusual ritual Caroline was committing but figured her own why of worshiping the Emperor was just as odd to some. With that she tries to brush off any dust or mud the madman got on her while heading towards their guide.
You take a moment to get the few bits of grim off your body suit, but as you turn to heads towards your guide, you hear a yelling, and a quick grab to the shoulder spins you around.

Grabbing the man in a tight head lock, Caroline takes out a blade and inscribes the rune of the Ecclesiarchy onto the mans forehead and begins citing calming prayers. If the man continues to act crazy she attempts to calm him with Mr Laspistol.
As you hear the man's screams reach a new high from your blade biting his skin, you hear a youth yelling at you.
Turning, you see a group of the same flame-tattooed men from around town charging at you.
"Begone off-worlder! We don't need your kind!" bellows their leader; in an instant, the seven assailants are on you and the cell.
You see anger in their eyes, but neither the cold glint of man-slaying or the hot passion of murder about them. You also notice that they have not drawn their firearms.

Alright, combat time. Here is how it will work; I will post the initiative order. Everyone has one day to post their actions, or I will simply have you do basic "attack, ready, etc." ones.
For those that do not own the rules, movenment is ruled as followed: take your agility bonus (the tens digit in your agility score), and multiply it by the corresponding number for the different move actions; that is your maximum distance in meters you can go. Half move (half action)-ABx1, Full move (Full action)- ABx2, Charge- ABx3, Run-ABx6.
Below is the combat map. Your character dot is marked with the first three letters of your character's name. Each square is 1 square meter. When you are in an adjacent square as a foe, you may attack them in melee. Right now, everyone next to a foe is considered in melee.
Key:
1. Building rooftops
2. Metal crates (AP 32)
3. Wooden crates (AP 8)
4. Raised stairways (to rooftops)
5. Sewer gate coverings (locked down)

Initiative order:
scythes:11
Tom206:10
Xarboth:8
Gang members 5-8, Falker:7
SGS: 5
Gang members 1-4:4
Novasry:3

Note: Falker, you do have your shotgun readied, but as you are in melee, you cannot fire it, only use it as an improvised weapon until you break out.

Well, I'm having some computer trouble right now, so an updated map will be forthcoming. Till then, we'll need to use the Chess system. Ranks descend vertically from 1-13. Files move from left to right, A-T. So Novasry is on 6K on the original map.

Zable-Readies Axe, moves into close combat with Thug 4
With a grunt, the hardy Guardsman draws his weapon and gets ready for a slug out.

Seeing that he's in close combat - exactly where he doesn't want to be, Thaddius breaks from combat, and heads for the rooftops with his longlas.

Disengage (full action). If I'm allowed to move from there (without giving a free attack away) I'll head as far as possible towards the stairs up to the roof of the northern building.
The tech priest quickly heads away from the conflict, seeking higher ground.
You are now located at 7M, over the manhole.

Gonna hold my move until after Xarboth, at which time I will step into his vacated spot, ready a knife, and if any turn is left, do a standard attack on enemy 2.
Slipping past the hurried techpriest, you pull your knife from its sheath and ready for combat.
You now have a weapon ready and are in close combat with Thug 2.

"Settle down everybody,we're not here to cause any trouble. Let us pass and we will be on our way." *Attempt roll for diplomacy*
There isn't an actual diplomacy skill, but the Charm basic skill should work (though you are testing at half Fellowship since you don't have the skill). Roll needed is 21, and you are attempting to get Thugs 1, 2, 4, and 5 to back off. Result is: 83.
Argus desperately attempts to calm the youths, but what would be words of Honey in Gunmetal City are apparently venom here at Port Suffering. His words only seem to make them more enraged.
Thugs 1, 2, 4, and 5 get a +1 on their roles to hit on the next turn. I'm putting you in a Defensive Stance action as well, since that sort of makes sense.

Thug 5 moves to 8I, 6 remains in place, urging his fellows on, 7 and 8 move to K5 and J5, respectively.
The mob quickly closes the gap with yourselves, attempting to overwhelm you.

I'll take a full move backwards (to the right on the map, I just assume I'm currently facing the enemy) and try to get myself to a rooftop. Hand to hand fighting isn't my area of expertise.
Scythia quickly backs off from her opponents, and makes way for a more secure location, where her expertise truly shine.
You move 8 meters, and successfully reach the side of the roof in a burst of speed. You are on 4M. However, since you did not "Disengage," Thug 1 gets a free attack. Roll needed to hit (this applies to Thugs 1-8 ): 28. Result:24. Damage: 1d5. Result: 1
But as Scythia is turning about, the nearest thug is able to get a slight laceration across her upper arm, though it does not slow her down. Minus 1 wound, current total is 10

Thug 1 attacks Zable, rolls a 79 and misses, Thug 2 attacks Vern, rolls an 85 and misses, Thug 3 attacks Caroline, rolls a 69 and misses, Thug 4 attacks Argus, needs an 8 (Defensive stance), rolls a 95 and misses.
The brash attackers lash out wildly, though their fighting style clearly lacks any sense of form, discipline, or even savagery.

Caroline draws her Flail and clubs the nearest of the men with it. She also attempts to recognize the markings they have on their faces, thinking they may be a religious branch.

Actions - Ready Flail, Standard Attack on enemy 3 and use Common Lore Imperial Creed if I can to identify them. Will try to Dodge the first attack against me.
Your knowledge of the Imperial Creed does not help you discern the origin of these specific tattoos, for they are too crude and generic. You've seen such patterns on wildly different items, from Holy and Sacred banners of the Chambers Militant, to civilian truck decals.
Standard attack- Need 36, result: 5. Damage: 1d10+1. Result: 1.
In a whirl you bring your flail to bear, and smash it into the side of the head of the blasphemous thug that dared to strike at you. You notice a couple teeth fly out of his mouth as he hits the ground.
Thug 3 is incapacitated. I'm running this fight on mook mode, so you just need to cause damage.

Thug 7 and 8 attack Caroline, Thug 6 attacks Vern. Needed to hit: 28. Results: 95, 62, and 20, respectively. Damage against Vern is 1d5. Result: 3. Vern is now at 8 wounds. Thug 5 continues to urge on his fellows.
As the melee continues, a ganger takes advantage of Vern's temporary vulnerability and gets a moderately deep cut across his head.

"Well hell!" Argus growls, "eat lead then ya punks!" *retreats a step and opens fire on attacker*
You move back to 10K, and fire at Thug 4, at +10 to hit (+30 for point blank range, -20 because Thug 4 is in melee with Zable). Needed to hit: 59. Result: 17. Because of the "Scatter" quality, you score three hits, against both his legs and his body. Damage 1d10+1. Results: 6 (right leg), 1 (left leg), 9 (body). Thug 4 goes down.
Your shot rings out from the alley, and the gang member in front of you flies off his feet in a crumpled heap. You cannot notice in the fight, but all the ambient sounds seem to have been silenced.
Thug 1 attacks Zable. Needed to hit: 29. Result: 44.
Zable holds off the poorly made attacks of the thug.

You make your way through the settlement, the noise of the outside world nearly drowned out by the rumble of the engine and music. After about fifteen minutes, the vehicle comes to an abrupt stop, with the hatch flinging open. "Welcome! I am the Seer Aristarchus. I trust the trip passed quickly?" he says.
He stands, and offers you each a hand in greeting before gesturing for you to sit. Close up, you see he has curious gold-gray eyes and the sanctioning electoo of the the Scholastica Psykana imprinted on one cheek. After shaking hands with you all, he adjusts a black satchel handing at his side. You notice that the bag is made from emadar silk, an expensive material, and held shut with several lead purity symbols, each one bearing a long crimson ribbon that trails behind him.

"Ah, that must have been a band of Ashleen, the local clansmen in this area. The young ones often form small gangs and prey on the unwarry, though their attacks are hardly fatal, at least not within the Port. Such is life on Iocanthos."

Aristarchus looks you all over once more, giving you a warm smile, before beginning.
"While I'm certain that the mission briefing you received from our honoured master describes in some detail the nature of our purpose here, I have had the benefit of spending a few weeks in this…unfortunate…outpost, and I have not been idle. You see, Iocanthos, for all its squalor, is near to my heart. The venerated Saint Drusus himself, to whom I have the very great honour of being distant kin, claimed this world for the Imperium, sweeping over the savage peoples and bringing them into the light and glory of the God-Emperor. As you know, the cathedral of Stern Hope is due to be consecrated to this great hero, and I would not see the memory of this Saint diminished by heresy and such a holy purpose thwarted by a backwoods withc or some such."

"So, Stern Hope…the information I have been able to discover does seem to suggest some psychic phenomena occurring there. While I cannot say, based on the muddled reports we have received, whether this is the result of some reckless, previously undetected psyker or of something far darker; the evidence suggests that all such strangeness has occurred in or around the new cathedral. Bleeding statues, manifestations, haunting noises, sounds of scratching from the walls…" The seer's words trail off and he stares distractedly a moment into space before retrieving a data-slate from his bag and reading it for a few moments before continuing.

"Ah yes, Stern Hope lies to the north, high in those mountains you may have seen on your way here. On a more civilesed world, we would have gone directly to the outpost by air, but that's not possible here, so we have to travel by the Pilgrims Road as they call it, a rutted dirt path is more like it. I've managed to secure us transport, an all-terrain flatbed, and I'm hoping one of you drives, as I've never been much of a hand at the wheel. We must pass through the barren shale wastes first though, and this is not a journey to be taken lightly. The locals claim that the wastes have witnessed all of the greatest battles of Iocanthos' long and bloody past and remain to this day a favoured battlefield of the clans. No one knows for certain, but rumours claim that all manner of terrible things lurk out there, although bandits and marauders are the most likely threat, so we ought to be prepared for any eventuality. Do you have any questions?"
Aristarchus pauses for a moment, before adding in a final word.
"Oh, I've also managed to convince the local Administratum officer to provide you with any essential gear you may require."
He then leans back, awaiting your responses.

With Thaddues at the wheel, you set off out from the port, headed along the northern road to Stern Hope. The path is somewhat bumpy, but otherwise the Barrens are true to their name; there is nothing save dry, dusty desert. Over the first two hours, Aristarchus remains quiet, occasionally staring deeply at his Tarot deck. Every once in a while, you spot a bird-like creature flying above you.

"A local carrion eater, vile things they are, more feathered reptile then bird if you close to them, sharp-beaked, too. Local myth has all sorts of unpleasant legends surrounding them. Harldy surprising really. They're not just scavengers either–they'll attack wounded and weak creatures, including men. No eyes in the damn things, no eyes at all…What you do mean by 'why can I still hear it?' " Aristarchus responds.

By this point the cawing has stopped, having lasted only a moment after the bird was out of sight. It would appear that Aristarchus did not experience the same sensations. Perhaps it was just the reeling of a startled mind?

"Thanks. Cover me, will you - just in case."

Thaddius heads over to find the body, bringing it immediately back into full view of the firelight before examining it properly (assuming it's still there, and it's dead or unconscious, that is.)
You slowly approach the corpse, your footsteps making a slight *crunch* as they fall upon the sun-baked earth. You lift the torch up over the the body, its light falling over it.

Fear test time! For those that do not know, fear tests are merely Willpower characteristic tests. When in combat, these can be very bad indeed, as they require you to roll on the Shock table, which will lock up your character for certain amounts of time until you shake it off, should you fail the test. Out of combat, like right now, a failure imposes a -10 to all skill tests you need to concentrate on, while you are in the vicinity of whatever caused your fear. If you leave the vicinity for a legitimate amount of time (a couple hours at least), you may confront the object with no penalty.
Needed to pass- 33. Result- 40. Failed.

You drop the torch in a moment of fright, noticeably shaking. Picking up the torch, you are able to reexamine the body, though your nerves are still on edge. The corpse is of an Ashleen man, and it possess a large slash across its collarbone, biting deep into its neck. You can tell that the body is somewhat sun-baked and has already entered the decomposition process. The eyes are missing, having clearly been pecked out.

Thaddius uses the increased light of the fire to search the body for any marks of Scythia's shot, just to double-check that it was Scythia that caused this man's death.

"Seer, why would this man have been standing watching us?"

Durandal
12th January 2011, 17:18
There is a bullet hole and exit wound on the body's chest, but the blood within has long since dried away.
Aristarchus looks over the body.
"Other then the eyes, a lone shale-crow isn't capable of doing that kind of damage. Ioncanthos is a violent place, rife with inter-clan warfare. Whoever this man is, he most assuredly did not die tonight."
Aristarchus gives a small sigh.
"I sense no lingers traces of psychic energy, so don't go thinking this is some foul warp-work. I feel that whomever got this corpse here is just playing some trick on us, attempting to weaken our resolve. Stay on your guards, but don't let it get to you. Given the nature of the terrain, and the placement of the outcropping itself, finding a suitable location would require both ascending further up the trail, and navigating through even less stable terrain, and it isn't guaranteed that you would find a useful vantage point. However, your caution will not be without benefit.

Watch fires burn along the top of the wall and you see numerous guns jutting out, silhouetted against the firelight. As you get closer, a pair of heavy wire-mesh and steel gates set into the wall swing open and a tall figure walks forward, wrapped in a dark cloak, with a rifle slung over his back. In his hand he carries an axe held high. He waves for you to dismount. Aristarchus orders you all to comply and adds that you should make no sudden moves.

Once you are on the ground the man walks closer and glares at each of you. He seems to consider for a time, then in a fluid movement he bows deeply saying,
"Welcome Servants of the Emperor, you are free to enter."

You return to your truck, and as you begin to drive up what acts as the main street of the settlement, a harsh wind blows through, and the air is quickly filled with the chalky smell of dust and the musty scents of human living. The sky itself is clear, and the stars look crisp and bright. Low illumination seeps from the the curtained doors of the dwellings and from the night fires burning in old promethium drums dotted about the area. The smell of smoke and cooking blends in the chill night air. The settlement has the feel of a refugee camp, and is composed of scores of haphazardly erected tents, lean-tos, shacks, and the occasional flint-block building rang from small, one-affairs to larger family-sized dwellings. All these are arranged in a rough circle around a bare, rocky hill on which the outline of a great domed building is visible, even at night.

The people of Stern Hope appear to be a mix of the various indigenous peoples of Iocanthos and off-world pilgrims and mendicants, and many have formed faliles, often with young children. Signs of the Imperial faith are everywhere, and as you move around the settlement, you find yourselves being watched expectantly from the shadows of tents and a murmured hum of whispered talk will follow wherever you go. The braver adults occasionally come forward to bow and make the sign of the Aquila before you, and some even beg blessings "from the Emperor" while the nervous children stare wide-eyed as you pass.

The locals, while a somewhat half-starved lot, seem in fairly good spirits, with many now at something of a loose end since the cathedral is nearly completed. Given their harsh surroundings, many are armed or have weapons in the shape of clubs, knives, a rare few hunting rifles, masonry hammers, and a variety of home-made spears, but little else.
Truly, the faith and fear of the God-Emperor is the sole factor preventing the small settlement from simply being washed away by the tides of Iocanthos's many warlord armies.

Continuing through the path, a strong voice yells out from the side, hailing the Cell. A smiling, heavy-set man in the dark roves of a monk approaches the vehicle with a shuttered lamp in his hand. He takes a pointed look at the Cell's weapons, before grinning up at you and winking a bright blue eye.
"Greetings pilgrims. Such faith and preparation is admirable to see. You are the help that the abbot has sent for, yes? Truly we are not forgotten. I'm Brother Lamark, on the the churchmen of this mission. Welcome to Stern Hope—the abbot awaits your pleasure at the priory in the morning after you are rested. Unfortunately he is currently occupied and apologies for not greeting you himself."
Brother Lamark directs the truck to a suitable parking location, and greets each one of you with a firm clasp of his powerful hand.
"You have any trouble on the way here?"
All the while, Aristarchus seems distracted, stuck in a stare toward the great domed building at the center of town.

Noticing the seer's odd stare Scythia asks, "Something wrong?"

"What? Oh, no, it is nothing. Fret not, just an old man lost to his thoughts. The cathedral is quite a sight once you get here." he replies, half distracted.

"I think he's in awe at the sight of the Cathedral. Brother Lamark, while you have us here, is there anything I can do for you? Anything that my tech skills might be of use for?"

Lamark shake his head. "Things may be pretty rough here, along with resources being scarce, but we've been able to keep everything we need running. Besides, I'm sure it has been a long journey for all of you. We've made accommodations for you all at the 'Crying Clota'–our inn of sorts. Please, come all of you, it is none too far."
Walking only briskly through the camp, Brother Lamark leads you to a somewhat rickety two-story building. Upon entering, you notice that it is a bit dusty and threadbare, but spacious, well-light, and inviting none the less. Lamark leads you to your rooms; Scythia and Caroline share a room, with Thaddius in the opposite room across the hall. Aristarchus has his own room further in the building.
Aristarchus turns to address you all.
"And here we are. I'm feeling tired. Travel isn't what it used to be for me. If Abbot Skae arrives before dawn, send him my way if you please. Some of you may wish to have a talk with the locals, hmm? Be wary if you decide to go and have a look about outside. Remember that Ioncanthos has no moons. The nights are near pitch black." With this, he nods to you, and heads into his room.

You've a few hours of evening left to do as you wish. Some areas of interest are:
The Cathedral
The Crying Clota itself (Brother Lamark has stopped at the bar in the front)
The Priory (this pre-fab building is the dwelling of the Abbet, Brother Lamark, and the other clerics and lay brothers who are a part of the mission here)
The Generatoria and Workshops (it is here where the power generator is kept, along with the preparation of building materials and repair of equipment)
The Warriors' Camp (This section is for the various nomadic Iocanthos clansmen and herders that often pass by the settlement).

The generator is a simply diesel turbine, and most of the tools are either manually or diesel-powered. While everything has a bit of a batter look to it, everything seems functional. Large chunks of iron, marble, and flint are stored about the place. There are a couple of laborers seeing to the tools, but nothing incredibly advanced.

You are brought to a large, square meeting hall. A lectern is in one corner, while crudely made benches and pews fill the floor; the walls are covered in hand-painted scenes of the life of Saint Drusus. Abbot Skae and Brother Severus turn to greet you as you enter.

"Good Morning, I am Prelate Orland Skae. I have the honor to be Missionary-Abbot of Stern Hope. Good Brother Lamark greeted you last night in my stead, and this tall and dangerous-looking fellow you may remember from the gate is Brother Severus, our Intercessor here. My apologies for not meeting you when you arrived, but my duties kept me from it. Thank you all for coming to us in our hour of need. When I first issued my request for assistance I could noth have hoped for more prompt attention."

"Let me first tell you of ourselves and our place here, by way of context. I know why you all must be thinking–how did this worn out old man talk the Ecclesiarchy into building such a magnificent cathedral on this forsaken rock? It wasn't that difficult, really. In another life, ages ago, I was of a noble family and not without a few connections. I let my family know that an old man's memory is far more apt to slip when he has nothing to occupy his time. That, coupled with the wonderful story of a 'lifetime of service,' and working many hours with the locals, has given birth to this place. 'The Throne helps those who plane well', as the saying goes, and thanks to the diligent toil and faith of the good people of our congregation we have brought forth a miracle in the barren land, and not one I will see endangered."

"In recent times we have been plagued by signs and portents, visions and phantoms that may indicate that some foul evil has come to my congregation. There have also been disappearances, deaths and other portents. I am a priest of the Imperial faith and I have seen much i my years and don t take such things lightly, and so I called on those who you serve to aids us. I ask you, I implore you, get to the bottom of this. If it is nothing–so much the better, but if there truly is…a moral threat…find it, destroy it, purge it! Tomorrow on the feast of Saint Drusus we shall consecrate our cathedral to his glory. Nothing must stop that, nothing. You will have our full support. Now I imagine you have some questions?"

Brother Severus begins to lead Caroline through the settlement, and up to the Cathedral, its looming figure dominating her field of vision. Various settlers follow behind them at length.
Despite being a clergyman, Severus wears a well-maintained flak vest over his vestments. His las-pistol and axe, its mono-edge more then apparent in the bright sun, are also hanging at his belt.

Scythia looks around for anything out of the ordinary (time to put those enhanced senses to use).

Thaddius takes a walk around the edges of the clearing, both looking for signs of anything other than natural and keeping an eye out for any predators, or any kind of ambush.
The two of you slowly start to inspect the area, with Lamark standing to the side, taking a drink of water.
"Huh…that's a bit odd…" you hear him mutter.
You both look in the direction of Lamark's gaze, and spot a single Shale Crow sitting atop an outcrop of rock.
Its blank faces stares back at the three of you for a moment, before letting loose a deafening cry and taking flight.
Suddenly, the sky above you is filled with whirling, crying Shale Crows, and the powerful winds of the Heights pick up at an alarming rate.

SGS, Awareness vs Silent Move, +10 from Heightened Sense (Smell). 48 vs. 40.
SGS-39. Enemy-65 SGS wins the test.

Scythia picks up a suddenly apparent smell, one that is both sweet and unpleasant. Gazing up at one of the few rocky inclines leading further up through the Heights, she spots a skulking creature, and yells a warning to her fellows. The beast immeadiately starts down the slope, aware that it no longer has the element of steath. However, it immediately becomes obvious that this is no ordinary beast.

Fear Tests, SGS-needs 30, result-92, result on Shock table-93. You have to flee the area as fast as possible. If you cannot, you can only make half actions at -20. You gain 1d5 insanity points. You cannot snap out of the state of shock until you are no where near your source of fear.
Xarboth needs 33, result- 86, result on shock table-94, same as above

-I'm going to highly recommend you each use a fate point to bring the shock to the lowest setting (or you can reroll the Willpower test itself), which has you only taking a half action for the turn after the fear test.

Lamark needs 42, result- 21, passed.

While the beast looks capable of moving quickly, it still must navigate down the rocks. You'll have two rounds until it reaches the clearing, and one before it is in melee with you.

Severus I think we should take a back entrance into the cathedral, I think it best not to alert the populus.

Use a fate point to bring the shock to the lowest setting, I don't feel comfortable having to roll under a 30...

After that, standard attack on the beast with my rifle if possible, give it a taste of the Executioner round.

OOC: Does using the fate point mean that we only get half-actions until we defeat it, or just for this one turn? And if the former, do aim actions still carry over?
