Specifically the album "All Hope is Gone"

So I'm not a huge fan of Slipknot, but their very first release - Mate.Feed.Kill.Repeat, and Vol. 3 Subliminal Verses were pure genius albums in every way. Their Self-Titled and Iowa were pretty lame and samey in my opinion. Anyway, I eventually got round to buying All Hope is Gone. I really want to like it, I do, but I just can't find anything particularly special about it. It's all right, but it just doesn't have the same sort of feeling and musicality as Subliminal Verses, which would propel it into greatness. It's almost like SlipKnot and Iowa, but more commercial. Anyone else get that vibe?

What do you lot think of All Hope is Gone? What do you think of Slipknot generally? Best album?

I think Slipknot is both massively over rated and massively under rated. Lots of metal fans insult Slipknot every time they can. I think Slipknot is passable. Most of their music is pretty bland and uninspired, but they have a few very good singles that I enjoy. They don't deserve the mockery they often get from metal fans, but they also don't deserve the praise they get from their own fans.

I actually have Psychosocial from All Hope is Gone on my workout playlist. I thoroughly enjoy 90% of that song. The rest is unnecessary blah.

I'd disagree a litte, I used to listen back at Mate.Feed.Kill.Repeat but after that I wandered away from their later releases, not being that, or as, impressed. However, I LOVE the All Hope Is Gone album. You've got one song on your workout Ritha? I use the whole album! Not repeatedly though, that would be too much :)

The build up through Execute and into the first track is awesome and really gets me pumped every time I hear it. Psychosocial is pretty awesome too (I remember getting the tab for this song in my guitar mag and that's how I heard about the album) but I'd agree about some of the song being a little pointless.
I really like the Dead Memories song too, something slightly different, almost like some of their Stone Sour songs.

almost like some of their Stone Sour songs.

And that's why I think I don't like All Hope is Gone. Too much of the album sounds like Stone Sour and not Slipknot. If I wanted to listen to Stone Sour, I'd have bought a Stone Sour album.

I think Ritha hit it here. I enjoy a bit of Slipknot, they're not as good as most metal bands, but still somewhat fun.
Haven't listened to the new album because I haven't heard that it's particularly good, so I'd rather just listen to new albums from better bands.

My favorite song of Slipknot is Snuff. But, I'm not a fan of them, I never was, 'cause I just don't like their outfit style.

On the other hand, Corey Taylor is one great vocalist, and his acoustic live performances are just amazing...
( i'm big fan of Stone Sour :) )
