Hi everyone, quick and simple question. What brand of paints do people use to paint their models (other than Citadel paints) and are there any particular recommendations of ones that are superior / easier to apply than Citadel paints?

Can't say for the actual paints, but for priming I use Dupli-Color Sandable primer. It' goes nicely and is easily found in most car places (Advanced Auto, etc). Plus it's a lot cheaper then the GW stuff, usually $4-6. :)

Vallejo and Reaper I like for their dropper bottles. Makes mixing paint insanely easy to do.
Also, Reaper seems to have every single color ever. And Vallejo also has a huge range.

Vallejo Game Color is hard to come by in my area, and I'm too impatient to wait for paint to ship, so I use a lot of Citadel paints. But I also use Vallejo Model Air, P3 and Tamiya on a regular basis.

Citadel and the occasional Vallejo though again I have to wait for them to ship. So I have a stockpile....Anything I buy from vallejo I buy like 3 pots at a time.

krylon indoor-outdoor primer
other than citadel paints I've used various hobby paints from Michaels and such... but those have been few and far between. Nothing better than the citadel, just cheap or on hand at the time

i use testors and modelmaster paints because there is no shop that sells citadel paints within a reasonable distance, i may not be able to do weathering, highlights, or mixes, sine all the paint i use enamel based, and i usely start brushing it on after spraying the model black with krylon indoor/outdoor spray they look pretty good for being medeocre paintjobs for example my prince and a havoc

I use Citadel colors, Vallejo Model Color, Vallejo Liquid Gold Range, Vallejo washes, some colors from Vallejo game color and Vallejo air. As a primer I use the Vallejo grey primer - it is outstanding!

I use Reaper, citadel, and p3 with the p3 brand primers. Its same price as GW, at least at the local store, but its thinner so it fills recesses better. P3 paints are my least favorite though.

Wow, these are beautiful, and judging by the rest of the consensus, seems I will have to give the various Vallejo's a go. Thanks.

Jezza, i wouldnt worry too much about what everyone else uses. Try the brands and find what you like. Mortimer doesnt paint that well because of paints, £20 brushes ect... He's good. He could probably get a good result from some pubes glued to a stick and some poster paints ;) FWIW i dont like Valejo myself. I dont see peoples fascination other than price. They seperate far too much for my liking - in the pot and when watered down. The bottle is nice but hey, i use a brush and pallette. Does me :) I rarely paint from the pot - only with table top stuff. They are nice and matte when painted but you can get that with other brands.
My advice would be to buy the 3 primary colours, black and white from as many paint suppliers as you can and have a fiddle and see what you like. Like Mortimer you'll likely discover you like one brand mostly and pick and choose from other ranges as you fancy. Dont limit yourself because someone says they're shit, IMO its best to discover that for yourself as it teaches you what works and what doesnt.

Wise words there :) that's the plan I think, basically what you said. Will give several a shot.

P3 paints are really interesting, especially the nasty colors (yellows, reds and whites).
