I created a thread about this when it was first announced, I am a HUGE Titanic fan and am so looking forward to this! Despite all the criticism it gets (some is deserved I admit) it probably ties with LoTR and Inception in my top three favorite movies of all time, I'm a big fanboy. It'll be great for people like me who love the film and never got the chance to see it in theatres, let alone in 3D conversion done by the 3D experts of Avatar! I'll be walking into the theatre to once again be thrilled by the story and the destined fate of the unsinkable ship.
The film is set for its re-release into theatres on April 6th, 2012, near the exact date of the centennial of the ship's fated maiden voyage. Previously James Cameron had confirmed it at Comic-Con in 2009.
During the 2009 San Diego Comic-Con (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/San_Diego_Comic-Con_International), Cameron announced that Titanic is in the process of being converted into 3-D (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3-D_film) and re-released in theaters at some point in 2011. "We've tested it, seen a couple of minutes converted. It looks spectacular. But it really requires the filmmaker to be involved to make sure that the Stereo Space decisions are made correctly," he said. In a March 2010 interview with USA Today (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USA_Today), Cameron stated, "I'm guessing six months to a year to do it right. We're targeting spring of 2012 for the release (of a 3-D version of Titanic), which is the 100th anniversary of the sailing of the ship."
