View Full Version : Test run for Zomps! Fourth round!
Loner

Hey guys,
For a forum game that I wish to run in the future, I want to try out some rules and see how they work upon which I can either edit some things or launch it straight away.
I'll skip most of the story and go straight into the game.
For the test run, I would like to have four people, although three can also work.
In this zombie game, I would like to encourage improvisation.
Say for instance, I give you a pan and a horde of zombies is coming your way, there are near endless posibilities: You can drop the pan and run away, charge into the thick of the zombie mob and try to beat them to death, you can hit your fellow players and then make a run for it, knock out the light and then hope to slip away or just throw the pan at the zombies or you can try to down one zombie then search his body for a weapon and fight on!
For most of the things I have rules prepared and for the others I can bend them around or make up new ones. :P
The sky is the limit.
Now to sign up, just supply me with a name and I'll roll for your stats. After that we can have the games begin. :D
Eye sight determines how good you can see.
Reflexes determines how fast you are and how often you can attack in close combat.
Intelligence determines how clever you are. (Also used for scavanging or lockpicking.)
Life determinates how much damage you can handle before you die.
Strength determines how much you can carry and how strong you are.
Pleasing the crowd: Ofcourse a soap where people just bash in zombie skulls wouldn't be interesting, so the big man has planned serveral surprises for the participants. However, they don't know them yet. This could be anything from suddenly turning on the sprinklers to being doused in meatsauce.
In the end, your reactions will be judged by the crowd that waits outside to either welcome you as a hero or lynch you as a murderer.

Stats I guess are fairly self-explanatory? Is there anything else to know about them?
Yeah, most of them I guess can be guessed what they are used for.
I've added a small piece about them in the first post, as I suspected it might be a bit unclear.
Eye sight determinates how good you can see. (Not too hard to guess what this one is used for, I think :P)
Reflexes determinates how fast you are and how often you can attack in close combat. (Also used for sneaking and such.)
Intelligence determinates how clever you are. (Also used for scavanging, figuring things out, repairing weapons or lockpicking.)
Life determinates how much damage you can handle before you die. (Kinda simple this one.)
Strength determinates how much you can carry and how strong you are. (Kinda the same as Strength in 40k. The higher this skill, the harder you hit with your weapon and the larger the chances are of killing the enemy.)
Nerves means how easily you panic or how brave you are. Say you have to run through a horde of zombies, just to gather a bullet or something, then you roll this one. Also used in case of surprises. :P

First update! :D
Alright short mod intervention:
Map:
In the game there are various places where you can loot or steal equipment. These are indicated as the boxes on the left corners.
The boxes in front of you, which you have already searched, are marked with a black cross. This means they are empty.
For the first update, I've assumed that you have searched your boxes and inspected the equipment.
If at any state, you want to know what a piece of equipment does, just say you will inspect it or wonder what it does. I can give you a hint in the right direction, although don't let it stop you! If I say you need to look for batteries in order to use a computer, then it can still means you can bash zombies with it. :D
On the contrary every equipment weights a certain value.
You can carry as much as you like, however when you are OVERCARRIED you will receive a penalty on various stats. I'll also note what thing is the heaviest, where upon you can decide to drop it or not.
When you look for a special piece of equipment, such as ductape or something, just list what you want to find and then I'll make the roll for it.
Equipment:
Batteries: Yes, several things require batteries, but for the sake of the game they are magical shape shifting batteries and thus can be combined with whatever it may deem necessary.
Books: Require one full update to read, but the bonus is permanent. However, you can only read a total of 3 books during the entire game. (There's only so much knowledge a human can absord on one day.)
Ammo: The label means for what kind of gun it can be used. If it's pistol it can be used for all pistols. If it's machine gun, it can be used for all machine guns. (etc.)
Infected?!
Infection: It can happen, but don't be too sad as there always is a cure! Try to find a medical syringe and you should be alright.
If you are infected however you lost 1 life every turn and get several penalties.
So the real update then:
"Welcome to Zomps, my dear participants! As you all know the goal is simple. You're dropped in the old abandoned prison and it's your goal to find your way outside. Anything is possible and everything can happen. Good luck!"
All of you wake up in a well lit room. You give a wary look at the others, who you don't immediately recognize. In the left corners there are several more boxes while in the opposite corner, there lies a pile of rubbish. You can see a crowbar sticking out of it, but also a dead body. The doors on all four sides are locked, but perhaps they could be opened one way or another.
Mali32 looks inside the box and finds an old AK47 (machine gun). You smile as you think of all the carnage you can wreak with this one. Unfortunately the gun is without ammo.
Some cigars , which you could use to create a lot of smoke or just because it is badass to run around with a cigar.
You also find a vacuum cleaner, which you wonder what you could do with it, bash some zombies? Or perhaps clean up some blood? Either way you lack the batteries to make it work.
You go further and find a pencil, perhaps not the best weapon to use right now.
You also find some dice, which perhaps could be used to let zombies trip.
As last you find a TV remote, however there's no TV in this room and there are no batteries for it.
PyroSikTh
You look in your box and find the following:
A pencil, not the most deadly weapon you have at your disposal at the moment.
Some cigars (3), you smell one of them and recognizes it as a Cuban cigar. Not bad!
AK47 (machine gun), you know your way around a gun and are happy with this one. Sadly enough you need to find the ammunition first.
As last you find a pistol. You check it for ammo and discover that it's empty.
marshall larkin
You find a medical syringe laying on top of the pile. "At least I'm safe in case of an infection," you think.
For the rest there are an old newspaper, perhaps not the most suitable weapon and a crowbar.
Stalker21
"Oh dear, what should I do with this?" You wonder after unpacking your box.
Inside there were a foldable table, which you could use to block of doors or hinder zombies.
A dictionary, which you could perhaps read sometime, it's not as if you become any dumber after that.
You also find a cell phone, unfortunately you don't have any battery for it.
As last there is a medical syringe, which can be used to cure yourself.
OOC: I hope you don't mind I've chosen some colours for you? I had forgotten to ask it earlier, but since this is just a little test, I hope it's not too bad. I would like to update every monday, wednesday and friday if possible. :P

Qyro grabs his stuff and checks out the boxes in the south-west corner, looking for anything that might be useful, preferably some ammo.

Larks checks the boxes in the north west corner for anything useful then turns his attention to the dead body...
"the key is either in him, on him or under him i reckon, who wants to check he isn't a zombie

Stalker throws the folding table at the dead body in the corner. If it doesn't do anything, he cautiously approaches and retrieves the crowbar from the corpse before searching it for anything of use.

Marks grabs the AKlub-47 and the cigars (and for shits and giggles the pencil) and then proceeds to join the others in searching the boxes and examining the pile of rubbish and corpses in the corner.

Qyro looks in the boxes and finds the first one empty.
He throws it away and looks into another one. Beside a potato, there's nothing in in.
In the last box he finally finds what he is looking for. A clip of machinegun ammo. Immediately he reloads his gun, ready for what's to come.
Upon one last look, he discovers some medical tools laying on the bottom. They are a pair of tweezers, some scissors and a scalpel. He shrugs and shoves them into his pockets.
Stalker21
Stalker throws the table and it hits the corpse, but it just slides off the body. He waits for a moment, expecting it to stand up, but nothing happens.
Carefully he moves closer and picks the crowbar out of the pile. Unfortunately it is so old that it should break before you could even swing it.
He turns his attention to the corpse, poking it with his foot. Again it doesn't move.
Stalker rolls it over and discovers that it had been laying upon a shotgun. After that he looks through the pockets and finds: Three grenades, a cell phone, a potato, two clips of machinegun ammo and a small key.
Mali32
Mali inspects some of the boxes, but discover that they are empty. He turns over another one and again no luck. After that he moves to the pile in the corner and again he finds nothing besides rubbish.
marshall larkin
Larks turns over the first box and several things slide out: A first-aid pack, three cigars and a potato. He shoves the cigars and the potato in his pockets and looks at the first aid pack. There are bandages, soap, antiseptic swipes and even gloves. Sadly enough the medical tools are missing, but Larks can still use the kit without them.

OOC: Why do you guys all have to find potatoes and cigars? Are you addicted to smoking?
Stalker21
27th March 2012, 10:37
Stalker tosses Mali the ammo, slings the shotgun around his back, and pockets the grenades, key and cell phone. He then returns to his box and pockets the syringe and reads the dictionary.
PyroSikTh
27th March 2012, 10:48
Stalker, try using one of the Grenades to blow open one of the doors. There's obviously nothing left in here for us, and there's obviously no keys.
Mali32
27th March 2012, 11:10
Mali catches the ammo and shoves one clip in his pocket, slotting the other into the machine gun.
"Grenade might be a tad dangerous in this small space. How about we just shoot a lock?" walking over to a door and giving it a quick look to locate the lock/assess the strength of the door.
marshall larkin
27th March 2012, 13:22

Larks, feeling like he is out of place with the 2 guys facing the door with their AK's Adopts a similar pose, potato at the ready with a crowbar in the other hand (whilst still watching the corpse in the corner)

He throws the potato, but unfortunately it bounces off the door without doing any grave harm to it. What is more surprising is that the door actually swung open upon impact.
When Stalker manages that he has a key, Larks throws his fabulous potato once more. Stalker is hit, but it does no harm to him. As he picks it up again, he sees the corpse in the corner slowly getting to his feet. Once more Larks throws his potato, but he misses the zombie.
PyroSikTh slams against the door and it swings open. He spins around and follows Stalker when he tries the other locks. The southern door and eastern door remain locked. As Stalker tries to open the northern door, he hears a click and it swings open, immediately showing seven zombies that were standing behind it. Immediately Qyro unleashes a deadly volley, but he misses one zombie completly, pisses another one off and finally kills the last one.
Stalker21 tries all of the locks. He has no luck on the southern and eastern door, but the northern door easily swings open and shows seven hungry zombies ready to chew upon him. Luckily he manages to avoid them before they can grab him and he takes cover behind Qyro.
Mali32 looks at the doors and they don't seem to be unopenable. A fierce kick against the lock or a well placed shot should do the trick. As he looks while Stalker opens the other doors, he suddenly sees several zombies appearing! He opens fire, but he misses the first time. The second time has more luck and he manages to down a zombie.
The remaining five walk on, one of them severly pissed off at what Qyro has tried to do to him.
What does the group do now?

Mali follows Qyro's lead, targeting one zombie at a time until either it goes down or another one is about to munch his face. He takes a bit of time over his shots to ensure he gets good ones while conserving ammo. (obv shooting at different zomb's to Qyro)

Larks hits the zombie with a crowbar square on the head. Blood splatters everywhere! Unfortunately it doesn’t seem to do much harm. The zombie tries to grab Larks but he falls over his own feet. When he lies on the floor, Larks immediately strikes again and caves in the zombie skull.
Stalker21
Stalker puts the boxes in front of the door, but nothing happens. Even though the gunshots echo loudly through the room, there is no movement from the other side. It seems as if there is nothing on the other side.
PyroSikTh
Qyro fires at the pissed off zombie first, but he misses it. He takes aim again, this time managing to hit it and splattering its entrails all over the floor. However it isn’t dead yet! As it slowly crawls forward, Qyro finishes him off with a blast to the head.
Mali32
Mali fires with his Ak47 and he misses the first zombie he aims at. Again he unleashes a volley, this time getting a kill. One of the zombie staggers back, clawing at its throat before if falls to the floor.
The remaining three stagger on.

(Also on more of a side note, you don't have to expect any zombies from there. :P)

marshall larkin heroically throws the potato.
The vegetable sails heroically through the air and comes into contact with a zombie skull. By some strange miracle, the zombie his head snaps back and it drops dead to the floor.
After that Larks dashes forward and tries to recover his potato.
He swings his crowbar to the left and right, but fails to hit any of the zombies.
Mali32 steps back and unleashes a volley. He can only take aim at one as Qyro is locked in combat with the other. Quickly Mali pumps several bullets in his head, taking it down.
PyroSikTh smashes the stock of his gun against the jaw of a weak zombie. Several teeth are knocked out and blood splatters everywhere. However the zombie keeps standing upon his feet, instead it tries to grab Qyro, but he manages to easily avoid it.
Given the little bit of new space Qyro once more swings his gun around, but he misses the zombie. The undead claws at Qyro, but he does no harm other than blood stains on his jacket.
Qyro hits fiercely back and pushes the zombie to the ground. He keeps it pinned to the floor with all his strength.
Stalker21 sees Qyro struggling with the zombie and grabs one of the boxes. He steps over to the fighting crowd and throws the box on the head of the zombie. By a strange miracle, this inefficient weapon manages to snap the zombie his neck and it lays still on the floor.
Then all becomes silent in the room. Everyone grabs his weapons, ready for a new attack. However nothing comes…
Suddenly there’s music over the intercom: “Congratulations my new participants, you’ve passed this test! You’re deemed fit for entrance into Zomps! Good luck out there and kill some zombies!”
All of you look at each other, “was it that simple? This couldn’t be it, could it be?”
OOC: Well guys that was it, I wanted to try a couple of things and I know everything I need to know. I need to add perhaps a bit of tweeking on some places, but overall it went quite well, I thought.
As a token of appriciation, I can allow you to keep these stats and move them into the new game or you can go for a reroll.
Anyhowz, I hope you liked it and are also willing to play in the other bigger (and longer) game.

Critical hits on both of them... I'm surprised too.
Larks got lucky with his damage rolls and promptly removed all of the health points.
Well he has been throwing that thing around ever since he had the chance, so it was bound to do some damage sometime.
As for you smashing your gun in the zombies face, you removed all of his health except for 1 lifepoint.
Stalker dropping the box on said zombie's head removed 1 lifepoint and thus killing it.
Still I hope this doesn't prevent you from joining the next game.
