Thought it might be fun to show my progress as I go about re-painting every single infantry unit in my army. Atm I only have one Infantry squad and my commander done. So I suppose I'll show those first. Also, I'm not 100% sure if all the mold lines are gone, so if you spot any, let me know so I can go about fixing them! Hopefully I'll post more pics tommorow, or later today if I get the chance.
Any constructive criticism and any comments are welcome!
So first we have my commander. I have yet to name him, so if anyone can think up a good, and appropriate name for him, I'd like to hear it.

Then we have the infantry squad.

Ugh.. just noticed the sergeant and a guardsmen have a few mold lines I missed, I will fix those later on.
Also, does anyone have any suggestions on how I should base the army? I tried but I suck at basing :(

Those are pretty cool! I like the idea of close combat guard :D It doesn't seem to work that well based off of your record
I'd suggest either something muddy to go along with your theme, or a very grassy/plainsy/light forest look.
×ÏVÏøøÐz×

Thanks! Atm they aren't CC guard. I use them as more of a stealth/light infantry army.
Eventually I will end up buying some bitz from different Fantasy ranges to make them look more Knightly, since I hope to base them around the Knights Templar. Which will mean alot of conversions for me to do, and will mean they'll be CC guard. Anyone have any suggestion as to what might make them look more knightly? I was going to just swap their bayonets for halbers heads from the Empire range, since I imagine the next guard 'dex wont allow Warrior Weapons.
Flyinfart
20th August 2008, 04:03
That sounds like an excellent idea for the guard. Might I suggest keeping with the 'piercing' weapons rather than going to slashing? Instead of halberds to convey the knightly theme, go with a more rugged and rough look. Give them scars and maybe close combat weapons at their sides. Even in training they fight to the tooth and bone.
Sergeants would probably be a bit cleaner in my opinion, like a knight leading a bunch of rookies. So he's more experienced, and probably is better treated than the troopers beneath him.
I love the camo design you gave them! Didn't really notice it at first, but that must be a lot of work! Its well done, too.
At least, thats what I think. lol Sorry, I'm going overboard with your army. Go with however you think your guard should be. :D

20th August 2008, 04:06
Those sound like great ideas! I might make tabards out of GS and give the sereants maybe some extra armour plating. As for the replacement for the bayonets, I have spear tips available, maybe those would work. I'll make some test models, and then mabe post them tommorow. Thanks for the advice and ideas.

You could base with white craft glue painted onto base, and then paint it vomit brown. Thats what i did for my SM and it turned out well and it was relatively easy to do.

What about Commander Valisar. Don't know if it already is 40k name, but i think it sounds kind of knightly.

Didn't get much done today, as I had to work. I will however post what I did, because I think I did a good job.
First of Three Commissars, the other one will be done tommorow hoepfully, I still have to buy the third. Any suggestions on a name for the Commissar posted??

Ogryn Bone 'Ead. I have picked the name Pilsbury for him, as I feel it suits him. I Will hopefully have the other two painted for tommorow. I tried to paint a tatoo on his right arm, not sure if it turned out though.

Then we have my Bassie. Does anyone have suggestions on how I could make weathering on the tracks? I have always wanted to do weathering, but i didnt want to do a bad job and ruin a good tank.

The commissar definately looks like a Roy, the way he reads from his book, it's just so... Royish.
Btw, all the models looks pretty awesome. When your whole armies done, it going to look awesome.

Good looking infantry there. Though I'd suggest you thin out your washes and maybe add a drop of neat alcohol to allowthem to flow better. I'm seeing a lot of tidemarks where washes have been applied.
Also, think you can crop and/or resize your photos before posting?
×ÏVÏøøÐz×
20th August 2008, 20:39
I'll have to try that. Im not too experienced with washes, which would be why you see tide marks. However, I have been trying to get better at it by testing on old models, so maybe in a while they will be better. Thanks for that tip.
Also, how could I resize the photos? Would I just go into something like an Image Viewer and resize them there?
I couldn't figure it out before, sorry.

20th August 2008, 20:45
De nada!
If you upload your pics to a photobucket account, they'll do it automatically for you. Failing that, whatever software came with your camera will have the option to crop and resize images.

Ok small update. Didn't get any of the infantry painted today. Unfortunately I will not have any updates after this one for maybe another week (dunno if anyone cares, but ya know), as 3 of the paints I need have completely dried up! And as my LGS is an hour away, its very inconvinient to drive their during the week. I did however, do a few touch ups on an old Russ. It was my very first assembled tank, so it may not have the best construction, and all the mold lines may not be gone. I noticed one on the hull HB, so I'll have to touch that up, as well as fix the Comms on the turret, since it broke.

http://40kforums.com/imageupload/images/img48af8e022215d.jpg
Also, I will try and resize these pics tonight, as I have noticed they are a tad too big. And finally, does anyone know of any good techniques to apply mud weathering to tank tracks? I wanted to do some, but as I already said in another post, I didnt want to do a bad job and ruin a good tank. Any ideas are appreciated!

I found this weathering technique on the GW site, hope it helps. It's for a Space Marine but could easily be applied to IG vehicles.

Thanks for that link. Although, I was looking for more of actual mud being spattered all over the front of the hull, to kind of represent the various terrain the tanks have to tread through, which I dont know how to do. I might try those techniques eventually though, so again thank you.

I didnt get to buy new paint, so I couldn't get any of the infantry done, but I did manage to get some characters done.
First, we have my second Commissar. He , like most of my special characters, needs a name. So I'll have to think up a few.

I don't know if you can tell, but there is some dirt weathering on the bottom of his great coat.
And then , my WIP Grey Knight Grand Master, Vallon. He needs some cleaning up still, and I need to fix his name on his right shoulder , but other than that, I think I did a decent job. Still not my best, but then I'm not extremely good at painting. I need to ask though, can anyone think of, or find out, what 'Death to Daemons' is in Latin? Sine I want to write some Latin saying upon his white border on his cloak, I thought that saying would be appropriate :)

Both look pretty good to me. I like the commissioners highlights and tassels makes the figure pop nicely. Likewise the red and white of the rob/cape of the Grey Knight. I'd like to see a close of up the Shield on the GK though, if possible? As for a name I think Commissioner Venthus (Ven-Thus) is a good name... *cough cough*
×ÏVÏøøÐz×

Thanks! I can attempt to take a close up of the shield , though, my camera tends to be a pain to take close ups with. It always says
''Can not focus, low light'', or something similar to that, and It wont take the pic, I dont even understand what it means by that. But I will try later on.
Also, I think that might be a viable name for the Commissar, thanks again!.

I only painted one Grey Knight and a couple of veterans for my command squad today. Unfortunately during their painting process, I ran out of almost every colour I need to paint my minis, and basically I have no black left. This means, I cannot paint anything for at least a week :( . But I think I will show pics of them, as I think I did an OK paint job on them, considering their not done. I also missed some mold lines, so I'll clean those up later today.
So first is the Veteran with a laspistol and ccw. I still don't know why I gave him an arm firing a laspistol sideways...seems kindof weird for an old guy to be doing that..I think hes one of the worst minis I have painted so far.

http://40kforums.com/imageupload/images/img48cd7f08cb814.jpg
Next is the first Grey Knight that I have painted out of seven. I need to buy some extremely fine pointed black markers to write names on scrolls with, as you can't really read what I write when I paint names on. looking at him in these pics, he really looks crappy, but I have to say, in person, he looks better. I still have to clean him up a bit, since, as I already mentioned, he isn't done. Also, I watered down the metallic paint when I painted this guy, so I dont know why it looks so thick in the pictures..I think I may strip him, ad then re-paint him. Does that seem like a better thing to do than just leave him like this? Or does he actually look somewhat decent?

look great, especially the grey knights :D
tip for photos: fold a piece of white A4 paper in half, then open it up and so the paper is sitting against the wall, if you get what I mean. then put the mini on the paper.
also make sure you get some good light, either from a lamp or from a window.
have you got microsoft? if you have crop the picture in paint.

14th September 2008, 22:06
Thanks for the tips! I may try that, as at the moment, I use an old Chimera box on its side, put the mini in, then take the pic  . Its the only method I found that worked for me. But I think that method you mentioned will work better. I'll try it when I paint my next squad, which will unfortunately be in a week.

Okay so I finished the painting of my Command Squad. They need to be based, and I think I may re-do the laurels on the banner, but other than that, I think they turned out well. . Any thoughts on how I could base them? Also, does the banner seem a bit too plain? I thought it looked okay but looking at these pics, it seems to be a bit too plain on the front. I didn't want the back of the banner to have too much decoration on it, so I just chose to do a scroll with the Regiment's planets name on it. Might still have mold lines on some of them too, so if you see any that I missed, please let me know so I can fix them!Heres some pics of them. Also, I think I may re-do the meltagunners faces, as they look pretty weird.

And, next we have a prototype for a shotgun toting sergeant. I plan on giving him a backpack to add to the 'light infnatry' role the squads usually play. Also, hes not full painted, I just wanted to know if the shotgun looks okay and if the pose looks alright.

Comments and criticism are welcome as always. Please comment, as I would like to hear your opinions on how I could improve my painting!
Apologies for the slightly dark pics, I need some advice on taking pics. Anyone have any?

they look very nice, and the banner is fine as it is. the red is very nice against the green/brown armour. For the bases you want something that will make your minis stand out. So maybe apply some sand and then paint black with a grey highlight to represent burnt ground and then add some clumps of static grass. Or, you could do a magma theme - same as above except leave a strip of the base without sand, paint red and highlight with orange.
×ÏVÏøøÐz×
28th September 2008, 12:39
Thanks :) . I think I may try the burnt ground basing, as my army does use a fair few flamers, but minus the grass, as their homeworld is a desert world with little to no grass. I could possibly put grass on a few bases, just to add some character, and to show that they have some vegetation on their planet.
Any comments on the prototype shotgun sergeant? I would like to know if the shotgun looks half decent in that pose, and if it looks right as it is a SM scout shotgun spliced onto a guardsmen, so I dont know if it looks right.

Hey...a very nice army indeed!!!
But the camo on the tanks are a bit, hmm blurred, looks a bit like dove excrements, but thats just my opinion sorry to say that.
If you make the contours of the camopattern more sharp, they'd look perfect...
again, great army...thumbs up!

29th September 2008, 14:11
Thank you! I also thought it looked bad for some time, but nobody had since commented on it, so I figured it was okay. I have however, tried various techniques on paper since I first posted those that have helped me decide on a new camo pattern that is more closer to my infantry's colours, and it will not include those blobs of bleached bone anymore, so it shouldnt look like dove excrement. I will hopefully, after I find some brushes worth buying around here, have the new camo patterns painted and ready to be posted, though, that will be in a fairly long time, as there are little to no art stores in my small town, so I will have to wait until I travel to buy good brushes. Any suggestions on which brushes I should buy to paint infantry as well as tanks? as I kind of have no brushes left, my cat thought they were batons .
Again, thank you very much for your constructive criticism and advice :D !

You're welcome.
What about no camo...What about Simply "Citygrey" with markings of your Troop, or "Desertcolor"...and all that thing painted
"weathered" of course...for future projects.
I've seen a few Baneblades, Leman Russ' and other monsters painted in one colortone mentioned above...
they looked great...

Thanks again! I think, since I am quite low on Graveyard Earth, that I may just paint the whole tank scorched brown, and then just sort of highlight it and then add weathering when I re-do them. Does that sound like it might turn out? I would probably have to try it out first, though. Any thoughts?
Also, I should have some pics of Benedictus, my Second Platoon's Lieutenant , up later this evening, as he is done and ready to be added to my list of finished infantry, which...is not even a quarter of the way filled out.
×ÏVÏøøÐz×
1st October 2008, 01:02
So, I got Lieutenant Benedictus finished, he is the commanding officer of the Crydian 91st Regiment's Second Platoon, "The War Pigs". Still needs to have a shield added to him, as all of my officers , fluffwise anyway, carry shields as a symbol of their status. His shield will hopefully be given the War Pigs symbol, which is siply a pigs head, with a pair of swords crossed in the background to add to the 'War' part of the platoons name. His leg armour is not actually there to represent carapace armour, it is mainly to protect his bionics, which I still have to incorporate into the back of his leg, but other than that, hes done. Hopefully he looks good, I was really happy with him, since he was one of the first ..erm..conversions? I did that actually worked IMO. Please comment :D !

Next on the painting list: Benedictus' Command Squad, hopefully will be doen within the next few days. Also, incase anyone was wondering, the leg armour is made from Kroot armour plates, filed down slightly and cut a bit. Finally, just a quick question, what should I give his standard bearer, a shotgun, or a laspistol and sword like Benedictus has? Thanks in advance!

Where did you get your commander's head? Everything looks really great by the way!
×ÏVÏøøÐz×

Thanks! His head is from the Empire Knight spure, its the Preceptor, or sergeants head. I figured it was suitable to give him a head with laurels, since it represents his authority very well.
Edit: Also, my apologies for the small pics in my previous post. My internet was very slow yesterday, so I could not preview them, so I will have to take some more close up shots of him.

Thanks again! Alright, so I replaced my old laspistol/ccw wepaon toting sergeant in exchange for one with a shotgun, which will hopefully be on every sergeant in the War Pigs platoon. I have two sergeants converted with shotguns, and the other two are on their way after I figure out how to splice them. By the middle of next week, I should hopefully have the first four of my GK's done, as I cannot paint any more Guard infantry, because I am already out of Graveyard Earth, which is required to paint their armour. Anyway, a pic of the first squad, which was already posted, but it has been cleaned up a bit and has a new, shiny (??) sergeant. Most of the shields that will be on them and swords are from the Empire range (it pays to have a fantasy amry that doenst get all its bits used :) )
http://40kforums.com/imageupload/images/img48e81b745a125.jpg
Also, as those of you who have looked at my previous pics have probably noticed, I really, really suck at taking pics, so my apolgoies in advance for these being crappy. I need some advice on how to properly light the phototaking area...like..really badly :smt010
And..the first member of the second squad, which is the sergeant. I ran out of regular 40k heads, so I had to use an Empire sergeant head from Fantasy, hopefully it looks right. If it doesnt..well..I really cant fix it, as its pretty much stuck on their forever. I thought it looked alright, a bit outlandish(??) but alright. Also, if you're wondering why my sergeants have swords and shields slung on their back, they are there becasue of fluff. I could try and explain it in further detail, but theres onyl a certain amount of words I can type down in one post . Lets just say, that the Crydian High Command feels that someone, or some people, in the army, have to be competent in CC. The sergeants are, to put simply, the only ones who are decently trained to fihgt in CC, though they do prefer to use shotguns because well, I like shotguns. I will hopefully, when I feel confident enough, write my fluf in the background section to hopefully get some feedback on it.
Pics of the second sergeant. Please, please tell me if the conversion looks alright. I have a habit of messing up on conversions, so hopefully this one turned out

Edit: Also, eventually , you will see a Macharius Vulcan being posted in here after I order it and start painting it.That will probably be in a few months. Its not fluffly or anyhting, but I do want one  . So, maybe you have something to look forward to from me now. Although, does anyone know if I have to have a Death Korps army to use one? Okay, I will put you guys down. Though, Vent, since your already a named guy in my army (a Commissar) would you mind being a regular Terminator? Regular GK terminators are still pretty good, I just think it would be more fair for someone else to be a more special character, as you are, as already said, a Commissar (and believe me they are indeed nasty, they execute their own men just like their Soviet counterparts in WWII ) still, the one you're named after has killed 7 marines and one rhino with one plasma shot, because the rhino blew up...and killed the marines...my opponent had bad dice rolling that day :smt011, so hes got a good kill ocunt already :P.
I will, later on, post pics of the first five GKs. I should probably mention beforehand...the Incinerator model was a very..very bad sculpt, so it does look like shite, model wise anyway. I think the paint job is OK.
Is anyone else interested in having a GK named after them? I still have like...fifteen to go before I have none left to name, so if your interested, you should let me know..
Edit: I'll make you a psycannon toting Terminator Vent, that way, you still get to be cool and you can have some fun insta-killing Farseers  is that alright? I fnot, let me knwo what you want to be :P

There should be some up tonight after I get back from school or so. And, I must admit, you will probably not see the finished terminators until about three weeks from now, as I have to save up teh funds for them...$75 is not a nice price for five metal minis, despite the fact that they are possibly my favourite models ever.

Sure. Power fist or bolt pistol one? Bolt pistol one has yet to be bought, but will be leading a squad of Conscripts in extremely large games. He wont actually have a bolt pistol in game, but the model does :P
Flyinfart, you are now a GK :)
Also, I really would appreciate it if more people actually commented on some of my minis, not that I mind the attention the thread is now getting, but I could still use some feedback.
(slightly off topic, my apologies) Also, I am not sure about this. Should I, or shouldnt I, have special wepaons in my GK squads? I was thinking about having some psycannon action going on, but then, I lose the S6 attacks and True Grit. So, should I just buy regular GKs, or buy some psycannons to replace two GKs?

groovy.
I'm loving the models and the general feel of your army. The paint scheme is solid, and the army selection is solid. Its looking good! If you want criticism, some of the design looks a little sloppy. But its hard not to see past it in my opinion, and the army is consistent in appearance and thus good.
×ÏVÏøøÐz×
8th October 2008, 21:18
By design, do you mean the overall design of the army, like, its structure?
If so, I do actually have a list planned out, its just not really showing in what I am painting. For example: I will not include Ogryns that often, unless I am forced to, since their shite (which is a shame, as tehy were more expensive ($ wise) than the GK terminators  THREE Ogryns were more expensive than FIVE GK termies! wtf is up with that :? ? Anyone know?..anyway)
I plan on, when I get teh bitz, making 30 Hardened Veterans with shotguns, and Sgts with power fists, and three meltas in each squad, which should be fun converting, but, I think I may just buy these http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/cadvets.htm, which should ease the need to buy SM scout shotguns. That hwoever, will not be posted for a while, though, it is the project after my GKs

Ah, alright then lol. Some of them, I will admit, they do. Some fo them do, indeed, need touching up, which will be done when I stop being slothenly(sp?)
The thickness, which minis in particular is this on? It shouldnt be on the newer ones (the Commander, the infantry squad) One GK in particular has some thickish paint on him, which will be stripped when, again, I become less lazy. Some minis are older ones, which couldnt be stripped because I dunno how to strip plastic, and these older ones have had 3-4 different paint jobs  (Ogryns..the tanks in a way) Hopefully I will avoid that when painting my newer minis. The GKs I painted last night had thinned paints, which hopefully turned out on them, but I guess we'll find out later when I post them
Thanks for the criticism! :D

Alright, I got some names written down on some of teh GKs. And five of the seven of the first squad are finished. I have yet to purchase the other two members, but in the near future, you will hopefully see them. I couldn't write teh names on their shoulders as planned, because I only have a brush to write the names with, so I wrote on teh bases. Hopefully their readable  Anway, the paint really looks thick IMO in these pics, but truthfully, I atered it down, so in real life, it isn't. Minding my lousy excuse for phototaking skills, I think they turned out decent, though, you really can't see some of the details in the pics, so my apologies for that.
So, first we have GK Flyinfart, Justicar Proturbo and GK bigfishboy

Then the rest of teh squad. Again, the Incinerator model is not going to be used, but hey, I had it, so I figure I would paint it. It is a bad model, I assume it was a bad sculpt or sumthing, but I knwo nothing about that, so I dont know. I tried to paint it as best I could, but I think it is the worst model in the squad.

I think one named "Queenie" would be quite nice. Just because.
I...am totally..doing that. That would be hillarious. Despite GKs being somewhat uber compared to my regular infantry, they need some flavour, so I think Queenie the GK would do it. Pink power armour and such...what do you think?
Some questions though concerning my new HQ choice I plan on having (Insert Inquisitor name here). How do you suppose I should model his acolytes? They are going to have storm shield (hopefully, dont have teh codex as of yet so am unsure on that.) Do you think, having some kneeling guardsmen legs with the shield raised up in a defensive stance would be cool? They are also having spears as power weapons (again, dunno if they can have them) so maybe I could have them pointing out their spears as well? Any thoughts?
Also, maybe someone can think up a name for my Inquisitor. I had a few, but they aren't really the most, erm, suitable name, for an Inquisitor. And finally, this is more of a game-concerning question than modelling, though it is still a modelling question. I want to give my new Regimental commander a storm bolter. Now, I have no storm bolter models on hand, and I cannot get any because, well, I wont be to the LGS for some two weeks. I wonder, do you suppose, if I took a bolter, and added another magazine to it, it could count as a storm bolter and not infringe on WYSIWYG? It should be simple to model, and should prove to be mor euseful than a S3 power weapon that has hit a grand total of three times in fifteen games -.-

That will also suffice. I dont particularly care if one GK is out of place, I plan on having a cross-dressing Ogryn to prove the point that they aren't very smart. Actually, maybe I could do the Queenie thing to an Ogryn, that might be more funny.
Still looking for some thoughts on the aforementioned conversions I wanted to do, I am not sure how I could do them, so any advice would be helpful!
×ÏVÏøøÐz×
12th October 2008, 01:04
Okay, so a small, very small update. Two of the three Ogryns are completed-ish!! I only have three because..well...alright. Ogryns suck right? They cant kill anything? Wrong..they kill mah wallet...but, I plan on having a squad of five with a Commissar leading them, because their fluffy (not literally...). I wanted to have a priest in the squad, but no, the codex wont let me. Also, I have two members of the command squad finished.
So, the Ogryns. Pilsbury (left) and Tiny Tim (right). The skin on Tiny Tim isnt as good IMO as the skin in Pilsbury, but I am still happy with the overall turnout of them both. Still need to learn how to paint tatoos onto skin. I tried to paint the Crydian Cross onto Pilsbury's shoulder, but I dont think it is visible in these pics. Little off topic but, omgwtf look at teh size of the grenade in Tiny Tim's hand  thats like...a guardsmens arm size.....wonder how Ogryns know how to throw grenades...they cant do anything else..so im confused on that subject. Anyway, Tell me if the skin looks alright please, as I would like to improve upon it if it is not that great.
Oh, btw, they are meant to look more gritty than my other minis in the army, as they tend to do the most foot slogging (being ten feet tall =no fun riding in a Chimera).
http://40kforums.com/imageupload/images/img48f14b9539064.jpg
http://40kforums.com/imageupload/images/img48f14ba418b97.jpg
And the command squad so far. Not too happy with the Veteran on the left. His face sorta came out a little off, so I may have to redo that. And also, his body armour kinda got melted (????) by glue somehow..so I may make a new mini altogether. Also, his painting isnt my best work, but I think its decent enough to game with. I am quite happy with the flamer and the Lieutenant though.

Again, comments are welcome, as well as any constructive criticism.

Alright, so another 'small' update. All three Ogryns are complete. Little John (the one with the red bands on his arms) may need some highlights on his gun, but other than that, I am pretty happy with the overall turnout of them.
Now, in a couple weeks or so, I will be buying my GK Termies. Then, I will begin painting them and posting them here. Until that though, I am unsure of what I can paint. So you may or may not see new pics after this.
Anyway, the Ogryns . Again, I will have four or five altogether, but again...they may not actually be good at killing any heretics or xenos..but they sure kill mah wallet.

Anywho, I need some advice. I am making an Officer for my Third platoon, and I am unsure of what to equip him with. The platoon is similar to the War Pigs in role, they infiltrate near the enemy, and harass the hell outta them with lasgun fire and flamers. So, should I convert him to have a storm bolter, which will just be a standard bolter, with spare ammo feeds, or...or, should I make him wielding a large, two handed axe or halberd, which would count as a power fist? Any help is appreciated, as I am clueless as to which would look better. :D

While this is turning into a conversation between us (lol) I would go for the close quarters combat option. First off it separates him from squad, defining him as the leader. As for the weapon of choice I would go for the two handed axe. That would look mint in my opinion. But let's see what everyone else says :)

Anywayz, I has started meh platoon standard bearer!! I painted teh flag..and started the bearer. Both are incomplete...banner is more complete though. Atticus, my main Officer, is a leader first, a fighter second. See!! Look at the crappyness of the cloak! Maybe its just too muddy. any ideas?
A little background to the Third Platoon, which I have named, the Deff Leopards
( hahahahah....ugh...) They are, in most respects, similar to the War Pigs, however! They have a tradition. Every sergeant, and officer, wears a leopard skin cloak (what the Officer pictured has, I have four more, which is enough for every sergeant in the platoon) So, hopefully it will individualize them..yet unify them :D
C&C welcome...as it always is!

Ehm...so I just kind of, in a way I guess, finished the Deff Leopards Officer. Unfortunately, his boomstick broke!! ..so he has no boomstick yet, but he will  () Anyway, the pics suck, so my apologies for that. I am nto sure if I should paint his cloaks pins a metallic colour, or leave them as badly painted gems?? Any thoughts? They are the green things on his back, should be in teh first pic. I am happy with his cloak, I think its the better part of him..though maybe its too muddy?

I have to make an entire command squad with those though  , as well as adding cloaks like this guy has to every command squad member and sergeant in the platoon. Should prove to be very time consuming, but fun  Its what im planning to do while I wait to get my GK termies.

I love your style of painting minis, it makes them look like something out of a dark and gritty graphic novel. Ultra-realistic is overrated.
There ya go giant axes with pointy things behind the head are always good.
You mean halberds?
×ÏVÏøøÐz×
21st October 2008, 18:20
Thanks! I actually think, when I first started painting, that they looked pretty gritty. I took a comparison of an old Guardsmen, to a new one..as..I still have fifty ro so older painted ones lying aroudn waiting to be stripped and re-painted. Hopefully you can actually see a difference
I know, for a fact, my faces have improved a tiny bit. The guardsmen below, believe it or not, have the same facial expression, I just wasnt too good at painting faces when I first started.
The one on the left is the newer paint job, the right one is the older one.

Oh, and the War Pigs standard bearer is actually pretty much done. I may have to go over the banner , on the back anyway, with some pure chaos black, as the grey cam out too much. I am not impressed with this fellows face...not one bit. But, I didnt actually concern myself too much with it, just the banner. I still think the boar looks like a dog, oh well I guess, Its not really going to be used in games, as platoon command squads cant have Standard bearers...every platoon in my army however, has one, but it just counts as a Trademark Item for game purposes, so the model is decorative, this will hopefully not infringe on the rules.
http://40kforums.com/imageupload/images/img48fe1bf165ba4.jpg
http://40kforums.com/imageupload/images/img48fe1c12577da.jpg
Also, if your wondering why the banner has a white cross instead of a black one, well, for one, if it was black, it wouldn't appear on the banner, as the banner is black. However, the main reason is that the War Pigs platoon was created back when the Crydian badge was still white, however, the whole regiment adopted a black cross, representing the death caused during the two hundred year long war that destroyed most of their population. Since the banner was borne during the time when the white cross was still in use, they keep it that way. I has to write this down sometime I suppose.
C&C are welcome and appreciated!
Edit: ugh...you know..I dont understand this. The camera shows the pictures as being ....lighter..yet..when I post them..their friggin dark! I apologize greatly for the crazy dark pics....I really need to learn how to use a light source better lol. I may, if the need arises, take new pics so people can actually see my stuff.
×ÏVÏøøÐz×
22nd October 2008, 23:21
O.o so, the pics are too dark I suppose? If nobody comments, then I automatically assume the pics are too dark to be able to see, which means nobody can really comment. So, please tell me if their too dark, as I would like to know so I can actually fix the problem.
Anyway, I has a small update I will be adding tonight, I repainted my Leman Russ, removed the bleached bone como, so it didnt look like bird droppings, and I kind of added some extra stuff, namely, my regiment badge and some more stowage. So...um...I'll have the pics up later on, as my camera is going through some stuff, mainly deleting some old pics to make room for new ones and such. A question though, should I just write its name, which is Minotaur on the side, or should I try and paint a minotaur face on the tank somewhere? It may take some time to paint the minotaur face, but I feel I may do it decently.

They look good to me. Take closer pictures using the "macro" setting. Then crop as necessary.
There could be a little more light. Maybe put white paper inside a box and insert some lights in the top and sides. All that white will bounce allot more light on your models.

Thanks. I may have to attempt putting paper all the way around my minis, as currently, I just put it behind them, which doesn't seem to work that well. I currently use the macro setting on my camera as well, but everytime I go to zoom in fairly close, it wont allow me to for some reason :smt012.
Unfortunately , as well, my camera is low on batteries, so no Russ pics. It wasn't that good anyway :P the GK termies ar what most people are looking forward to I suppose.
I still have some GKs unnamed! So anyone that wants one named, post here! I think theres...erm....four or five? I may be wrong, but im too lazy to look back at page three lol.

I currently use the macro setting on my camera as well, but everytime I go to zoom in fairly close, it wont allow me to for some reason :smt012.
When you are using macro, dont zoom in. The whole point of macro is that you can take a picture of something very close without zooming in which would make the pic blurry unless you used a tripod. Set the camera close and put it on the timer. Just push the take picture button down halfway to check the camera is focusing properly. And turn the flash off. Using the timer allows you to move out of the way of light sources.
×ÏVÏøøÐz×
24th October 2008, 01:42
Hmm...alright I guess I wont zoom in, I'll try that, thanks :D
Anyway, I took a few pics of Minotaur, the War Pigs personal support vehicle. Notice, the white cross like the War Pigs banner has? Its to tie the two, the platoon and the tank, together , so that way, it also shows that they go together. The Russ acts as an additional anti infantry heavy bolter platform, and uses its ordance to bust any tanks, with limited success, but hey, it gives me a chance. :D
I decided to not paint a minotaur face onto the tank, due to the fact that if I did, I would have to add a dozer blade, and paint it on there. So, I wrote the tanks name. I chose Minotaur because well, I like Greek Mythology, and mythology in general, so I think it makes sense. I plan on having another Russ named Cerberus, which will be similar to Miniotaur in design (3 heavy bolters, possibly a heavy stubber), but for a different platoon, the Deff Leopards. I need some ideas though, what should I name my Hellhounds? For those that dont know, their flame tanks, which fits perfectly with my regiments pyromania. I would prefer some mythological names, cuz I'm wird like that :P so any help with that will be appreciated.
Comments would be great to here! And any advice for inproving my stuff is welcome! I know I'm not very good at painting, so I'd like to hear some of your ideas on how I could improve :D Also, I realize this tank has some thick paint in some areas, this, was rather unavoidable, as this was the first tank I tried painting a while ago, so the paint was thick. I dont think it detracts from the crappyness that is Minotaur, but hey, I think its alright.

I would like to hear some more comments if it isnt too much trouble, as I know theres a lot of improvement that could be done with my painting.

Thanks!
I haz some update, and some bad news :( . The LGS's I went to (three of them  ) did not have Termies :smt010 . So, yet again, I will probably have to wait about a month before they get a shipment of new stuff from GW in . Hopefully not the full month, but its still a long time to wait. I will have something bought next week though, an Inquisitor. I dont have any plans, or ideas, for a retinue (dont have a Daemonhunters codex as of yet), so if anyone has any ideas on which models I should use feel free to give advice. The squad, regardless of what the general thought of CC Inquisitors is, will be CC oriented, so hopefully that helps on which type of retinue henchmen I should use, and which models can be used for what.
I also, since I had time, made a Psyker. Not really a good one IMO, but I am painting it atm, so maybe it will be done tonight, not sure though. It's also not a traditional one with robes and a crazy metal thing on hsi head, but he is what I feel a Psyker shoudl look like....useful. He has a metal left hand, since he kind of had an acident when using Lighting Arc

Ehrm....okay then..well I need some advice. I want to plan out how I will paint my Inquisitor before I buy him, since I am paying 45 dollars to use two if the seven models in the box , as half of the models are awful. Anyway, what colours do you folks suppose would contrast nicely with the rest of my army, yet still blend in with it? I was thinking gold for the armour and red for the cloth and stuff, but I am not so sure on that. Any thoughts?
Also, I dunno if anyone wants to know, but I am, for the most part, almost done the ugly looking custom psyker, so..yea, I may have him up today, or tommorow...I dunno when actually.

27th October 2008, 19:41
Nice work so far I have to say. I always think that an inquisitor should stand out; so I agree, nice red robes and golden armour. However this may not fit in with your theme, and I will be honest I have not read all the posts; but that is my 2cents.

27th October 2008, 19:47
What about a brass type colour for the armour as well as the red cloaks?
×ÏVÏøøÐz×
28th October 2008, 20:29
Thanks for the input and advice guys! I am pretty sure that a gold or brass colour would allow him to stand out, and the red would tie him in, so thanks again!. I wonder though, would a bone colour perhaps make him stnad out more? Or would that be a bit off?
I have yet another question though concerning modelling the inquisitor this time. I am not making my own, but I am buying one that I would like to attempt to convert a bit, as the mdoels left arm irritates me. It has a giant two-headed bird on it, its just so...weird. Anyway, heres a pic for a rough idea on what the model looks like.
[attachment=0:snomonsc]img4004a64222301.jpg[/attachment:snomonsc]
Any ideas on what I could possibly do to the arm to replace the bird? Or should I leave it as it is, its cool looking as it is?
Thanks in advance :D
Dacanadian93

you could model him as if he was holding hammer overhead and bringing it down with two hands.

Pics tommorow hopefully! :D
Also, I need to has some suggestions. I want to give my Inquisitor a cool, improsing, and well....a good, name. I want it, to stick with my love of History, to be either Roman, Latin, or Greek, so if anyone has any suggestions, I'd like to hear them :D

Okay, so, I began to work on my Inquisitor, Darius. Hes like..almost done. I am quite happy with the Inquistor himself...but that god damn bird thing on his arm, whats up with that thing? I hate it, it seems to let the whole model down...I dont know if I did a good job on it, but I am not happy with it, its a shame its on such a nice looking (IMO) model. Anyway, I tried to brighten the pics..they still suck..so my apologies for that. Hopefully though, you get an idea of hwo hes coming along. I stil need some freehand stuff on his cloak, though at this point, I dont knwo what the freehand will be, but there will be some, perhaps a large =][= symbol? Any ideas?
Anyway, when hes done, I have 3x Acolytes with strom shields to make and paint before a tourney on Sunday...so heres hoping I get them done lol. Edit: okay..really...he doenst look that awful in person and the paint, really, was not thick at all I watered every laye. I'll try and take some better pics tommorow when I get new camera batteries...as these dont show how good the model actually turned out IMO.

Eh....so, so sorry for triple post. I took another pic of Darius, hopefully, he doesnt look like crap in this one, and hopefully,it is bright enough that people can actually see something . Oh, and, as for the stuff that still needs to be done on him, I need to highlight his hammer with some Silver, then give him some freehand work on his cloak, thats all, then he should be done.
Anywhay, heres teh new pics. Comments/Criticisms are welcome, which can hopefully be made, now that I've discovered the tool to fix brightness, so maybe now you guys can see the stuff in my pics.
I just wonder though, why does gold always seem to look like it was applied thick!? Even when it wasn't!? Does anyone know?

I would do that, but then, I wouldn't get the same level of satisfaction or sense of accomplishment I would from doing some freehand. I think I may just practice on some spare paper, and then give the freehand a try on the actual model. Do you suppose that would be a decent idea?
Belzebub
5th November 2008, 15:36
Another thing:
I like the bird, I have this miniature at home too...
The bird is a Glovoda Eagle, it's a gift from the Adeptus Mechanicus to Inquisitor Torquemada Coteaz, (+1 Initiative and +1 Action, included in the Profile of the Inquisitor)...
×ÏVÏøøÐz×
5th November 2008, 15:39
O.o really!? I may use him sometime then...combine with a few Familiars...and I have myself like..well...he'll have a high I anyways.... I dont know how to paint the bird really which is my main problem with it. Is it like a cyber-eagle type thing? Because I tried to make it look like one..but I am..not so sure if it turend out, which is why I dont like it.

×ÏVÏøøÐz×
5th November 2008, 15:53
Thanks. I agree...my pics are quite terrible, I actually just brightened the one of the Inquisitor in a photo-editing program, so I may have to see about using darker coloured paper as a background instead of pure white. Perhaps a more, off-white?
Belzebub
5th November 2008, 19:30
.....perhaps blue or black, depends which colors on the miniature dominate. :smt002
Chaplain miniature picture, black background: no good!
×ÏVÏøøÐz×
5th November 2008, 19:33
Perhaps black would be alright for the Inquisitor..he is gold and red..so the black shouldn't mask his colour too much..plus the light source will help..I'll see if I can find some and then I'll take a new pic.
Also...I broke the Acolytes I was making..-.- now I have none. Does anyone know how I could make some? Or if theres any that are sold by GW besides the one in the Coteaz box? I like that one...but its difficult (for me anyway..) to convert into a storm shield toting Acolyte.
Edit:  perhaps Witch Hunter crusaders would be a suitable model for an Acolyte, they have a shield that could be a storm shield afterall.....hmm...any thoughts?
Belzebub
5th November 2008, 19:50
I tell you bro', I am searching these Inquisitor retinues, like the devil searches untainted souls. They are really hard to get, especially the single miniatures mentioned in the Daemonhunter and Witchhunter codex...
There are only 3 different to get at the moment. (Sister Hospitaler, Acolyte, Crusader)
The rest...nearly impossible.
But I have them all (do not ask how much money I had to spend)
...I digress
I'm looking forward for your new pics!
×ÏVÏøøÐz×
5th November 2008, 19:53
Hmm..do Crusaders have a suitable appearance that they may work as DH retinue members instead of WH? I may be tempted, tommorow, to spend lots of monies (two blisters...actually) on them, since the Acolyte models frankly suck.
I will hopefully, later today (probably this evening) have newer, hopefully, better pics of the Inquisitor, and the only Acolyte (ugh...) that I have, and possibly a Cherub. I dont plan on using the Acolyte, but the Cherub is too cool. :D
Belzebub
5th November 2008, 19:58
Crusaders are perfect!
Cherubs are cool, I've painted the one with the Bolter (see my blog, page one)
×ÏVÏøøÐz×
5th November 2008, 20:01
I luvs Cherubs! And the one you did was awesome, its what made me like Cherubs so much (no matter how useless they themselves are)! Though, your model was far better than the one I have, as I have the weird laughing one with the scroll..but hey, its a Cherub, hopefully I do it justice by painting it decently.
I guess as well, some Crusaders will be sufficient to make Acolytes. So, I'll buy a couple tommorow (I only need two now, as I found out three would have me over the tourney's points limit.)
×ÏVÏøøÐz×
7th November 2008, 00:30
So sorry I didnt add any pics.....my camera seems to have a major malfunction, so I need to get it fixed, so, unfortunately no pics of the Cherub or the Inquisitor. As well. the store had no crusaders ( :smt013 :smt011 ),....so no Acolytes either...I seem to have a case of bad luck. Again, my apologies. I can tell you though, IMO, the writing on the Cherub's scroll is the best I've ever done, and I feel I did it well. Though, the Cherub itself is a tad terrible. Also, I am, tonight, attemting freehand on my Inquisitor, so maybe if I get the camera fixed before Sunday I'll have pics up :D

11th November 2008, 21:51
I, am so sorry, for teh triple post, but it seems nobody else posted, so, I have to post if I want to add this update :D
Anyway, tried taking pics with a background of black instead of white. I think they turned out a bit better, not a whole lot, but I think its a step in the right direction (except the Inquisitor..he seems too bright..perhaps..the light was a little too close, I dont know...).
Anyway, the Acolyte (the Crusader..) is not finished yet, he still needs some freehand stuff on his robe, and the shield needs to be finished, as well as some highlights on the white. As well, the Inquisitor is not done, as he also needs some freehand stuff.
The pics should give you an idea of what the minis look like (hopefully their visible lol)
I am not too happy with the Cherub...maybe its just the model I dont know. The skin is highlighted, but it looks awful because the Brush Gods decided it would be funny to make my brush split in half when I paint -.- So, I bought a new brush :D
Hopefully, in a few days, more pics will be up.
Advice, comments, and criticism are welcome, as always! :D
Oh, yea, I may add some individual shots of the minis if people want.

A question though, do you suppose, if I used Reaper's Earth Brown, it would be quite similar in colour to Graveyard Earth? I officially love Reaper paint now, its what I used on these guys :D , but as I have yet to try out Earth Brown (I was going to buy it, its cheaper..), I figure I would ask in case anyone has used it.
I can still paint my High Elves, so...um...I may post pics of them in a new thread (just thought I'd say incase anyone was interested as to what else I am working on..)...but, I doubt it will get that much attention so I dont know.
Stay tuned! :D

Okay, so, um, not sure if anyone was wanting to know, but I figure it would be good for those people who I have named after my Terminators to know. I am getting teh Terminators tommorow :D  , so, yea um...thought I'd inform you that I may start the squad tommorow, and then I'll post pics. Also, theres one spot left for a Terminator, so, if you want it named after you, post here and tell me :D .
Alas, I have no pics of my newly finished Inquisitor and Acolytes. The camera seems to choose which days to not work, ah well. Just another pictureless update I guess :(

Alright, thats good news then, because frankly, I luvs my flame templates, I do have, or, will have eventually, 30 of them :smt005 .
Anywho, a simple colour question. Since the squad is going to be Grand Master Vallon's Retinue, do you suppose, since their more elite than regualr termies, fluff wise, that they may look good painted gold instead of teh traditional silver? Or, do you think I should stick with silver since I sort of do it decently? My Grand Master isn't gold, but...well...I will be, eventually, when I find some suitable bits, making my own custom Grand Master and painting him goldish, so perhaps the gold will do. What do you think?

Rather than going heavily into one color I suggest using both. Silver for the core, and gold for extremities. Or even gold trim over silver, IE gold shoulders? I think a mix would signify they are elite marines, members of the bodyguard, but still marines. The gold on their armor would be their badge of honor, like the Terminator honors are for regular marines. I use a blue left shoulder instead of red to signify a special character and it seems to work nicely.
×ÏVÏøøÐz×
15th November 2008, 16:39
Hmm, you know that may actually work :D It wouldnt be as easy as doing regular shoulder pads IMO becuaseof the shrapnel (sp?) guards on the shoulders, but it might look pretty decent, I'll give it a go on some old marine shoulder pad with shrapnel guards, as its basically similar, just smaller.
Thanks!

So, I dont have any termies atm, but hopefully in a week I will, as I can send a friend down to the GW in Toronto to pick me up a box (assuming I find the money...I spend my funds on Dwarfs  )

Um....wow I um, haven't really dont much since I last posted, but, I do have a small update-ish thing.
I made a random mini; a custom Psyker to be exact. He isn't the greatest looking mini ever, but, to e fair, he's not really finished yet. I need to still redo his armour, and add some other random bits.
Its a horrible pic; my lamp broke  so I have no way to light my pics except for my photo efiting program thingy. Still, ti should give you a general idea of hwo he looks, and hopefully you guys can comment on him, not the paintjob, the mini itself. My first sort of conversion I suppose, so I need to know if he looks ...natural...and if he looks like a Psyker (I personally dont think he does, but, I am comparing him to normal Psyker, so perhaps he does look okay) I would really however, like feedback. :D
Pics (awful, I know, but, I am getting a new lamp today, so perhaps they will get better)
http://40kforums.com/imageupload/images/img493bd1fcc65dc.jpg
I still have to do more blending on the staff, as the fire looks unnatural atm. I used alot of HE, Empire, and Chaos bits (the book is actually the only Chaos bit tbh...)
So, please tell me if you think he looks okay, or, if he looks awful. :)
*And yes...he does have a metal left hand...its meant to be some sort of bionic replacement for his original hand (it was chewed off by teh kitteh known as Boots -.-)

×ÏVÏøøÐz×
7th December 2008, 22:02
Almost like Gandalf
 Yes, I wil lagree, he does have that sorta pose, but, the real reason hes posed like that, is because his hand will be coloured so it looks like hes shooting a lightening arc (or, in my version of it, firebolts) so the metallic hand will be sort of reddish so it looks hot, hopefulyl imitating a look of heat.
Thanks btw!
Any other feedback would be nice :D

Okay, I need some quick advice, How should I paint flames on the psyker's cloak?
The cloak is orange, so I am finding it hard to pull off flames. Any ideas on what colours I should use? :)
Once the flames are done, he's done.

9th December 2008, 06:58
Nice work as ever.
As for the flames; maybe you could do very stylised flames? For example bright and pure red and yellow? Or even purple and blue flames, or something similar, who said magic had to obey the rules?
Vent
9th December 2008, 08:35
Do they have to be flames? I would go with chains myself...
×ÏVÏøøÐz×
9th December 2008, 09:59
Well, the whole deal with the flames is that Crydians are all pyromaniacs in some way, and I reflect this by their weapons (flamers and other heat ased weaponry) and their psykers are different from most Imperial ones in that they use fire, instead of lightening or whatever regular ones use.
Perhaps a combo of chains and styalised fire? I do like the chains idea. :)

Thats exactly the kind of thing I meant! May have issues on an orange background, but you could always make the cloak black if it was an issue.
×ÏVÏøøÐz×
9th December 2008, 17:13
Black would be good, as it actually goes with everything...and it may not stand out too much (the black...the blue definately will....) But I find it hard to paint black decently :smt012 I will try though tonight, and post pics sometime tommorow or late this evening.
Also! I am converting my HBs on my third platoon tonight, they will have drum magazines....thats..pretty much the whole conversion lol. Hopefully they'll also be pics of them tonight. Ehm, I have another question. This ones about a conversion. I am going to need 20 shotgun toting Veterans in my army, but, I only have about six SM scout shotguns, so I cant use those. How do you suppose I could make shotguns cheap and easily? :?:
Also; I bought a new brush, so the psyker should be dont late tonight, I have work, and it will take me about an hour or so to do the rest of him when I get back, so around nine o' clock-ish I suppose. :D Also, I completed the Lieutenant model for my third platoon, the Sweet Leaves. Thanks very much. I am not the most confident person around I will admit, but I am starting to see a difference between my painting. Slowly seeing it anyway. :)
I apologize that I could not post any pics, but I had to go with my friend to the hospital after hockey, it appears the other team didn't like losing, so they took their anger out on my friend. He just broke his arm, nothing too serious, but I figure I'd go with him. However, I will have pics for sure up after work tonight. I seem to be working lots of shifts lately, but it's too bad they cut our shifts a bit.
Pity priests are over pointed and useless, but you being the fluff man you are, I cant see this being an issue. Look forward to seeing the finished product.
I am indeed into fluff a fair bit. Most of my lists aren't geared to be specifically effective, they just tend to be effective most often. I have to wait until my friend comes back from GW in Toronto to get the stuff for my priests, since no stores around here sell alot of 40k and Fantasy well, they do, but I mean, their sock seems to get smaller every time I go to them.
I am afraid, as well, that after these new pics, their won't be much updates until I can personally go down to my LGS to pick up my required paints. I could've told my friend to get them, but I only gave him enough money for models and such, not paint. I mant to pick up osme Graveyard Eath last time I was down at the store, but they didn't have any. Nor did they have the Reaper equivalent IIRC. I have bad luck that way :P.

Thanks again for your input! :D
I may look into the FW ones (we're all bound, at least once, to own something from FW, I intend to acquire some erm....stuff...I dont know what, but the bassie armoured compartment may be what I start with ) Though, I may, if I really don't like the price (I imagine Moodz will not) I will look at plasticard. I dunno if I will have relics and such, but I want it to have a compartment, allows for more space to write litanies and other stuff like its kill count (in games, it has killed, so far, seven tanks, and forty Chaos Marines, not bad for an inaccurate piece of shite eh? :smt005 ) I dunno about my Psyker still, I will admit, I am honestly going to include normal GW ones, as they are IMO nice minis. I want to make him less, mage-like, he looks too much like a mage...perhaps...a different head? Or maybe the head is okay...hmm...Have to think about this 'un.
Oh! Forgot to say, I replaced my idea for priests with Psykers, so no priests in my army, but, I will still keep DH allies, and the Pskyers will, assuming they redo them in the new 'dex, be more useful (I want Lighting Arc all the time in my main HQ squad, and in my Infantry squads! Not fcking Telepathic Order! Gawd!) But really, I will be buying the following, and trying to paint them so I can update this.
-Psykers (IIRC, three per blister, not bad if you ask me)
-Inquisitor (Most likely the one with a book and bolter)
-Very , very later on (if this is still alive in about three months...) a Macharius Vulcan, yes, I am getting ones. Going to take me forever to paint :smt010
Little more on topic:
I tried to do tatoos of the pilsbury doughboy on each Ogryn's arm (they are, in fact, called Pilsbury's Doughboyz :P ) but I decided on doing something different. I did the Crydian Cross, with a giant bakers hat on their arms, so maybe, until I get pics up, that will give you an idea of what they look like, and let your imagination come up with an idea. :)

I suppose I'll leave what he looks like to your imagination, but I will give ou a description of him. :) He is helmeted, carries a customised bolter (in effect, its a storm bolter) which, fluffywise, he made himself, and he wears a wolf pelt cloak with a sheathed sword on his back. I'll post pics after I prime him. Now I have to make a new Command squad though....ugh...as my current one is CC...not the kind I want anymore.
Pics up when Moodz finds his camera

Pics of my new Officer will be up, when...my mom gets back from a party with my camera -.-. So, until then, I will leave you with another pictureless udpate. (Pics up later, as already said, so don't worry!) I painted the following things;
-"I luv Mom" tatoo on an Ogryns arm
-"Cannonball "tatoo on anothers
-Some freehand on my Inquisitor and Acolyte
And, I sort of gathered the colour scheme of my new IG army, so, I may, since it would be a little bit too much to start a new blog, convert this blog into:
The Crydian Regiments (IG Blog)
So I can post pics of my Airborne scheme. I will tell you, it's dark blue armour, and greyish camouflaged fatigues. And....some added stuff (I don't have grav chutes yet)

Okay, I'm going to try something a bit different. I'll psot pic sof what is painted, and pretty much complete (nothing is fully finished! As Moodz is a horrible basing person...) but yea. And later (probably after my three and a half hour wrk shift, like wtf...), I'll post pics of what needs to be painted when I get my damn camera back (Still haven't recieved it -.-)
So, pics of what is actually done

Inquisitor Lord Darius (He will, eventually, have a pointing left hadn with a storm bolter attached to his forearm...not that willing to risk messing up the model atm though...)

Anyway. It is looking good, I especially like the ogyrns! Some nice flesh colouring going on there.

Thanks! I can't seen to duplicate the flesh though, so I fear that when I paint my next two Ogryns (when I finds money  ) they will tka emore time than the first ones, no problem for me thoughm just a little irritating.
Anyway, I have a pic of my new Officer, unpainted as of yet (new paint on Saturday ftw! And, hopefully, I'll give my friend some money tommorow to go get Inquisitor Syphus, who will be the Inquisitor in my 54th Airborne , unless, am I even allowed Inquisitors and such with the Elysian list? Anyone)
know?
So, my new officer. As well, pics up tommorow of my prototype 54th Drop Troop, horrible first attemp, but I tried.
http://40kforums.com/imageupload/images/img495a9ec479d29.jpg
Storm bolter took a bit to make (the whole mdoel took an hour, not alot of time, but for the simplicity of the conversion, it actually is.), I took two regular bolters, and filed them so their surfaces would be flat, then glued them together, clipped off their magazines, and put on a Chaos heay bolter ammo feed, and then a targeter to represent the master-craftedness. Does it pass as a strom bolter, or should I try again?

Technically, no. As it is not the "Imperial Guard" codex it is an IA one. But some people would let you, my group for example. I intend to have my Airborne lead by an Inquisitor (seeing as they were, er... co-opted by him) in Apoc.

I did a similar thing with DA termie to represent an original combination bolter. I like the handle, helps explain how one man lifts the thing, let alone fire it!

And a squad of Battle Sisters in a Rhino (hopefully Moodz has enough money for such things...)
I am laso picking up my new Commissar tommorow....as I failed to sculp it -.-

I plan on making something for my new command squad tonight, a new, shootier Standard Bearer, but I need something answered, and some help with the banner itself.
Firstly; my question. Do you think a guardsmen could hold a bolter one handed? I imagine not, but I want my standard bearer to be standing, holding the banner high, and firing with his bolter as if hes making a last satnd sorta thing (??) But I dunno if it would look just wrong to have him holding it one handed. Any ideas? If you think it would look weird, how do you suppose I could model the banner then? Perhpa leaning against his shoudlers? Any help would be very much appreciated!
Secondly; the Banner. Looking at my scheme, I've come up with three colours to paint the new banner. I dunno which to choose as I like them all. Between blue, red, and dark green, which colour do you think would look best alongside my units?
Also; a pic of half the guardsmen I have to paint. Almost all of the pictured guardsmen here, need to be A) stripped of their paint then B) Re-primed and then C) Re-painted. Even the painted ones need this, as their older and look ocmpletely horrible next to my current guardsmen.
Apolgies if I already posted this pic. I feel like crap today, so I am really not in a thinking mood..

I doubt he could fire it one handed. But it would look cool, so I say go for it! Just an idea, maybe have him in a dying pose, pushing himself off the the floor and firing the bolter with his last breath, holding onto the banner? Would look cool, if hard to model. Would explain the hefting of the bolter one handed.
Secondly; the Banner. Looking at my scheme, I've come up with three colours to paint the new banner. I dunno which to choose as I like them all. Between blue, red, and dark green, which colour do you think would look best alongside my units?
Red would work ok I think. But then I like red!

 Yes. Yes I could try him in a dying-ish pose. I'll have to find some legs suitable for it, but yea. I'll try it, and post pics afterwards.
Problem with dying is he'll look shorter than everyone else, so bah, what the hell, I''ll give him the DILLIGAF face.....the one with the unstrapped chin guard and the crazy lip. Yea...
*looks at boxes and models....* yeah, I hate guard sometimes.
Indeed. Especially when they all look alike.....and they all have to be painted...and when they take 5 hours to paint one :smt010

Update:
Sorry for no WIP pictures, but I have good news. I finally got the paint I needed! So I can begin painting my infantry and that.
As well, I purchased an Immolator, a female Inquisitor, and my first squad of Battle Sisters, so, in effect, my new Allies are Witch Hunters. The Inquisitor is being painted. Pics up tommorow, or at the latest, Wednesday of her.
I also recieved a squad of guardsmen, so hmm...my army seems to have grown a slight bit.

So, I worked on Syphia last night, got about 50% of her painted, so still very much WIP. I think she needs a new face, and perhaps a bit more layers of watered down white on her armour and sash, but I don't know. She also needs quite a bit of tidying up, but again, very WIP. Anyway, let me know what you think about her so far! I'm personally very happy with her Inferno Pistol...came out almost exactly how I wanted it too, and the flames were my first attempt at fire with wet-blending, hopefully, it came out alright.
My god she needs to have her face repainted....

I hope their decent pictures? Just...disregard her face...it needs redoing...alot. She looks scary (Granted, she is an agent of the Inquisiton and the Ordo Hereticus, but honestly, shes too scary....) As well, when she is finished by weeks end, I should have my second Infnatry squad primed and basecoated.
Comments/ Criticims would be greatly Appreciated! :D
Edit: Eh...looks like I missed a piece of metal thats sticking out on her pistol's tubes...I'll file it off now. *runs off angrily with a file*
As well, I need some advice. I want to convert my Sister Superior in my first sqaud (well, all of them will have one, but I onyl have one Superior atm) to have a Brazier of Holy Fire. How, do you think I should make it? I have a torch from my Bretonnians, its not really 'technological like' but I think it looks gothic enough, any ideas? I'll find the bit and post pics before trying anyhting.

I tried to repaint the face, can't seem to get it to look the way I want to, I may neeed to find a guide on painting female flesh, I didn't think it was anymore different than regular flesh I paint, but it apparently, is.
Anyway, I basecoated the first four members of my next Infantry squad, so there may actually be WIP pics tonight instead of tommorow (No working for me tommorow, special day for me tommorow. You'll all hopefully see why tommorow is a special day for me. )

Thanks guys!
I decided, after reading some books and watching movies such as Kingdom of Heaven (Dunno how it inspired what I plan on doing), to do my army to represent more of a religious and Ecclesiarchy led force, so, I am going to, in the next squad, attempt to represent this, with multiple Purity Seals, some writing on their shoulder-pads and such. I dunno, but you'll see .
Hopefully, it will turn out. That also means I will actually be having Priests, lets hope that their slightly imrpoved with the new Codex so as I dont waste my time and money making them.
Anyway, I need ideas for this new look of my army.
1) Purity seals. I dont want traditional ones, so I am thinking of using (Thankfully, I have lots!) Bretonnian Knigth ribbons. Now, their long, so I will have to cu them abit, but they look like purity seals, except, instead of a wax seal, they have shields. So, do you think that would look good? Or should I try it, and post it after for you to judge?
2) I can keep my current army badge (its a cross, so it should fit the bill) but I am unsure of how to show their connection to the Ecclesiarchy other than through seals. Any ideas on symbols and or other items that could show the link between the two?
3) Fire! Fire is the symbol of purity, so, thankfully I have lots of flamers. However, looking at WH, they dont seem to employ lots of heavy weapons, like IG do. Do you think, if I included heavy weapons, it would destroy the whole look and fluff of a force led by the Ecclesiarchy and Ordo Hereticus? Or, do you think I could justify this somehow?
Thanks in advance!

Well, small update. It's my birthday, so don't expect any updates later today. I got Syphia's face sort of repainted, hopefully it looks better. I tried to get rid of the 'lines' but I don't know if it's alright now. Also, got the first of two Crusaders 90% completed, still needs highlights ( Though, I may strip him, the paint seems to be a little thick...), the Familiar is also done (I'm very pleased with the text on the scroll, best I've ever done IMHO)
So, pics.

Very good text on that scroll... :smt016
and keep it up, soon you will have painted your Guard. I did mine by watching Band of Brothers...it inspired me to finish them.
For black paint when it is getting too thick try watering it down, but only a little bit, not so that it become transparent, just enough so it will go on easier. And HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! :D

Thanks! :)
Though, I doubt I will be finished my guardsmen soon, they take roughly two hours each to paint, and theres 80+ of them, so We're looking at roughly 160+ hours to paint them all, excluding my Sisters of Battle allies and such, I should get them dont by July 1st hopefully. Band of Brothers did give me some inspiration, but what really did were medieval movies and such with Crusaders, as my army will eventually be very gothic and medieval looking, purity seals on everyone, it's i nthe post above the new update actually what I plan on doing. I also will be doing some Rough Riders, which will hopefully turn out well, they'll be bought aroudn Easter I imagine.

Quick question.
Okay, so, I plan on having my Guard themed after the Knights Templar (though, they much prefer short ranged firefights than pure H2H. Now, my question is, do you think they'd look good with GS'd tabbards on them? Or would that look a bit awkward? Let me know what you think! And any GS advice would be much appreciated. :)
Also, the Inquisitor is almost done, so hmm...maybe pics tommorow after work...

Perhaps use bretonnian men-at-arms for that...
×ÏVÏøøÐz×
8th January 2009, 01:01
I thought of that, but the M@A are too short (or so it appears....), and their sort of a little too medieval, but perhaps I could give it a try, I have a spare body here, so I'll try it. Though, I really want tabbards to represent the white ones the Templars wore, but I'll experiment. :)

Syphia is now 90% done. I need to sort of highlight her a bit more, and some other stuff, but I am not sure what else I need to do on her. I did some freehand on her sash and her robe, and her face was cleaned up, hoepfully, she doesn't look like an old lady now.

10th January 2009, 13:33
Nothing eh? Ah well, I tried.
Anywho, a small pictureless update. I decided to switch Syphia's flames to be blue, instead of normal flames, it seems to fit with the blue theme of my WH units better, and it makes her not 'all-over the place' colour-wise.
As well, I am deciding today, to do a little bit of dabbling itno the seals and writing I will be putting on my infantry, so there may be pics up later tonight.
Just a question or two though.
1) I plan on putting a banner upon Excalibur, but I am unsure of where to put it. Do you think a banner upon the hull would look good, or on the railings for the gun platform?
2) Do you think small writings on the guardsmen's shoulderpads would look okay? I inted it to look like Litanies and Prayers, but I am unsure. I suppose I'll try, then post it, but really, I'd like some input first. :)

The following is very serious. So keep that in mind. I know I say alot and don't follow through on it, but I am seriosu this time.
I am giving up painting for about two-three months. I have to really get my school work and stuff in order, and painting is not at the top of my priority list at this time (sadly, I just enetered that Army Painting chalenge...). So, that being said, don't expect any updates for at least two months. None. This hopefully (and I doubt) will bother anyone, but I just thougth I'd inform those of you who actually look at my stuff. :)

Well, perhaps a smal lupdate on maybe one model every once in awhile, perhaps every three-4 weeks, or once a month. That give sme plenty of school time to do work and takes into consideration my work schedule, but should still allow me to paint some minis.
Thanks. I migth have a Sister of Battle up in like....two weeks or so lol
