Ok :) so ive had a look about and the best tact for imperial guard is to stand and shoot :D So check this combat patrol force out:

HQ:
Junior Officer
4 x guardsmen total : 40

Support:
Fire Support Squad
3 x Heavy Bolters total : 80

Troops:
Infantry Squad
Heavy Bolter total : 70

Infantry Squad
Heavy Bolter total : 70

Infantry Squad
Heavy Bolter total : 70

Infantry Squad
Heavy Bolter total : 70

this is a legal combat patrol force

(reason being the only unit you need is 1 troops choice :P)

Anyway, With 7 heavy bolters all ill need to do is place my squads around my side of the table in decent cover etc, with cetain pans of view so i can cover the whole board, then fire off 21 heavy bolter rounds a turn along with 36 lasguns :P

Please tell me what you think of this army

*places down a devilfish*

what are you gonna do now?

1) Sitting and shooting won't win since you could end up playing seize and hold
2) If you do want to sit and shoot you'd be better taking autocannons than heavy bolters

Does the Devilfish's armour exceed 33 in total? because u cant field them if they doe, the cap is 33

AV of a devilfish is 12 11 10

good luck getting a shot on the back of it :P

:( crap, shall i take some of the heavy bolters out of the infantry squads to make the fire support team autocannons?

you don't want a static army for a combat patrol - you will be too easily outmaneovred and won't be able to capture objectives easily

i would suggest 2 armoured fists, and 5 storm troopers. Add whichever weapons you fancy but i would say autocannons on chimeras, autocannons in each squad, and 2 plasma guns for stormtrooopers

Also its not legal. You need a command squad for your platoon.
