I am, for some unknown reason, having a difficult time choosing which Special choices to use in my Dwarf army. I always use two bolt throwers, as they never seem to let me down (yet!), but am undecided on what else to use. I want some really tough, advanced melee units, who are able to dish out lots of damage, while taking alot themselves. I know Ironbreakers and Hammerers can fill this role, but which is honestly better at said role?
As well, are Miners any good? If they are, what about the blast charges (?) they have or the steam drill? Are they worth paying points for?
Really sorry for this dumb question, I am not completely familiar with Dwarf special units yet, only warmachines, as they are all I have been using (I dont have alot of expendable moneys yet to buy the units.... ..oh..wait I guess I could proxy them..)

I prefer Stubborn units, so I would use Hammerers.

Hammerers, so so Hammerers, bastard Dwarfs have Gt.Weapons if needed, bu have a 3+ Armour Save in Combat and Stubbon, thats just insane.
Ironbreakers, in units of 12, with the Banner of Double Unit Stength also do well in tournament settings as well apparetnally, small, reasonablly mobile and fairly cheap :)

Hmm...thanks for the quick responses guys!
Hammerers seem to be more capable to stay in combat than Ironbreakers, so I may go with them. lol I forgot they had Stubborn and if joined by a character are immune to certain scary things... that might come in handy.
Would a Runic banner be of any use in a unit of Hammerers? Mayhaps the double unit strength one mentioned for Ironbreakers?

The Rune of Fear is a good choice as it seriously deters people from smashing heavy cavalry into the unit if it isn't loaded with characters and goodies. It also makes the unit an absolute b*gger for Undead to shift, and also helps against Ogres, Daemons and a variety of other units in Chaos, Wood Elf, Skaven, Lizardmen and Dark Elf armies that opponents might be tempted to slam into them.

If you've got a dwarf lord for em though(2k, you should) That's them being immune to fear and terror, making something more mundane like the rune of battle being more effective.

Personally, I prefer Ironbreakers, just so much more fun in my opinion. :D

Ironbreakers may be fun. But if you need a unit to never run. To stick it out forever? Hammerers. All the way. Lord in there pretty much seals the deal. Ironbreakers are cool, but man, ld9 stubborn is beast.

Yeah, I'm just a fan of the fact that their armor save is so ridiculous for infantry... maybe you should take cannons? :D
