Anyone who studies a lot of the German WWII army knows of the SA, my friend and I decided that I'm going to retheme my army after the SS and the SA(stormtroopers and guardsmen respectively) What color would the armour be? I've got the tan shirts and black pants and the red left shoulder pad but I want the armour to be something different then black. Another question is background, any tips people? Fighting style is just like the Germans and the french so that's covered. I want a realistic explanation for having swastikas all over my army(besides the fact they look awesome, no offense). Btw, do cavalry platoons(apocalypse) fit in with the SA style?

If you will follow your Rise of The Third Reich and various other sources,
The SA were quickly dissolved after Hitler came to power, Broem (sp?) was considered a "relic" of WW1 and was causing a chism between the Military supporters and hardline party members.
Himmler and the SS quickly and "silence" the SA and eliminated the leaders.
So if you are going to do an army based on the SS/SA best simply forget the SA and focus strictly SS. Which was predominantly black with the Runic SS and Deaths Head symbols.
You could us Thule Society SS for Psykers and the Various Company names for platoons I suppose.
Das Reich and Der Deutchland live again?
Dunno, but your looking at black if your going that route.

Would white flak vests fit? When I see SS troopers they always have White harnesses for ammo and etc.
So from what I've seen of the SS uniforms, white flak jackets and belts combined with a black helmet and uniform should work, wouldn't it?

Like Warden said, the SA were disbanded after Hitler disposed of Ernst Rohm...
The SA were his personal militia, as the SS were Hitler's.
What you're aiming for is more like the Heer, with the Wehrmacht as the general soldiery (guardsmen) and the SS as the elite troopers (stormies)...
As for uniforms, how about doing your guards in the classic feldgrau uniforms of the Wehrmacht and the stormies in camouflage. One of the things which set the Waffen SS apart was their use of camouflage, they were one of the earliest fighting forces to adopt a camouflaged uniform and had a lot of variations. The current German flecktarn pattern is a derivation of on of the wartime SS patterns...
The SS brownshirts weren't a military uniform as such. They were used in the early days and during rallies etc, but with the advent of the war, the Waffen SS (the military arms of the SS) grew to be the largest part of the SS by far, and it's the Waffen SS who were the elite fighting troops of Hitler's armies.

Always wondered, I've occasionally seen Wehrmacht troops wearing gray uniforms in books(the cheesy elementary type), did gray for urban or did they wear strictly green and officers wear gray?

look up the Brandenburgers. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brandenburgers) gives you a german commando unit without the political messiness of the SS.
