Well recently I took a month break from warhammer but I had played a 20k aside Apocalypse Battle where my Daemons had taken 2nd place in the sheer slaughter but in the end they fell as they got cut off from the rest of our army. I had ventured back to my old GW and watched a mate of mine using his Chaos in a scenario battle for a campaign I missed due to said break. Anyway I have been asked to rejoin and the outcome of the battle and several others at the time helped me make my decision. So here is my latest story.
Brother Captain Ecnal stood amoungst the small group of survivors. He had under estimated the sheer number of traitors that were going to assault his position.
"Brother Ecnal, we finished our head count sir. 20 survivors out of 50. The squads dispatched by the Iron Swords and Sons of Guilliman were wiped out." Sergeant Vale reported. Ecnal murmured a prayer for them under his breath realising he failed this strike force as only his men had came through in one piece. "Vale have any word of the 128th Cadian came in? Have the Sisters of the Bloody Tear responded at all?" Ecnal asked. Vale shook his head. Ecnal cursed as he questioned why his faith was being tested so much. He knew the Emperor would protect him and guide him to victory. Suddenly there was chatter over the vox. Ecnal opened his comm link.
"This is Brother Captain Ecnal of the Sons of Luther, can anyone read me."
"Captain Ecnal, this is Senior Officer Marvick of the 128th Cadian, we need access to your base now!!!!" Ecnal was disgusted, a lower ranked soldier no being had ordered him to do something. Despite this hurt to his pride Ecnal ordered the gates to be open. He marched out with his Command Squad to meet Marvick. When he laid eyes on him he smiled seeing the commander roughed up from a recent fight showing he was a true commander, one who led from the front and did not hide in the heat of battle. Though he then assessed the rest of the 128th. Their vehicles were damaged, many men were critically wounded and if lucky they were at half strength.
"Welcome Marvick what has happened? According to my reports you were sent to stop a lesser rebellion." Marvick spat out a mouthful of blood and then wiped his mouth.
"It was an ambush. That "Rebellion" is a considerable sized Orc army. Someone fed us false information. I could say the same for you Brother Captain Ecnal. I heard only a small Chaos force made of Cultists was meant to assault this base." Marvick replied. Ecnal knew this Officer was battle hardened and was already calculating the impossible. He was considering that Ecnal's Chapter Master had been relaying false information to the entire Imperium force set on this planet. Ecnal gripped his bolter.
"The Chaos force here was well equiped. It was far larger than initial reports. If you plan to blaim this on my commander Marvick I would watch your tongue." Marvick laughed and shook his head. Ecnal grabbed the human by his throat and lifted him up clearly off the ground
"What is so funny Marvick!!" Ecnal yelled in blind fury. Marvick gasped for breathe as he gave his answer slowly but knowledgefullly.
"When we came to this world and took it from the Eldar, they fortold of the day when an illusion far greater than theirs would deceive us. We ignored them believeing it was their attempt to scare us off this planet. However this was never the case. They told the truth. We have been fed false information, our men destroyed in great slaughters and now all that remains is us. The remnants of a force to stop a small uprising of cultists. My men will die here however Ecnal I am not sure if your men will. For all I ask is this....did you burn the dead?" Marvick said as Ecnal released his grip.
At that point a blood curdling scream was heard. Ecnal looked out over the field seeing the position where the Iron Swords had fought. The dead Astartes began to jerk up, their bodies warping. Suddenly all of them roared as faces burst through their armour, long black swords suprted from their right hands. Ecnal was stunned at the site as he looked over to the Sons of Guilliman seeing them go through a similar disguting transformation. Their bellies swelled, horns burst from their helms as well as a single eye. Ecnal yelled out his men to prepare for battle when a signal over the Vox came. Its was unique unknown. Ecnal turned it on as a tide of Chaos cultists swarmed over the ridge and down to the now exposed base.
Mephaine smiled as he listened to the cries of pain and anguish. The sound of men coughing from the plagues of Nurgle entering their system. The roar of the half Bloodletter, half Marine beasts tear through the small pocket of resistance. He carefully extended his hand and moved a figure on a board and knocking down the figure of Ecnal. His game was playing well as he had eradicated all life on that planet with one well planned move.
"Now my pets.....our fun shall begin." Mephaine gave a cruel smile as several daemons of various gods around him cheered and laughed in glee. The Space Marines were a good start but his eye laid on a new prize, one far greater than the small amount he burst through.
"Mistress of the Sirens I believe your host is ready to be taken. Prepare to enter the real world and take permanent form." The Slaneesh Heraldess smiled wikedly as she elegentally leaped away with her sisters. Mephaine moved the piece of the Slaanesh Heraldess to the model of a large Eldar Wraithlord which was well ornated on the board. It was time for his game to truely be unleashed.
