So.. my latest imagination for my PnP group of WHFRPG is to accidently stumble upon a
Dwarvish Advanced Outpost working secretly in the Wilds of Sylvania.

Chaos Dwarves that is..

Now I decided to pop into the game Chaos Dwarf Automatons. Small gnome sized things that act as sentries and cannon fodder.
Cheap to make and blow up in a plume of steam and oil when hit.

Now I could go on google land and search, I have, but I thought best ask fluff nazi's if this would be a feasible creation of the Chaos Dwarves..

Given that the Rabid rabbi/bad ass babylonian look is now passe and out the door..

Thoughts

Wait. The Babylonian look is gone?! What the hell! That was the coolest part about them, imho. They weren't just evil dwarves. They were bad ass evil dwarves.

As far as their fluff, they are known for mixing daemons and technology to create war machines. A steam punk style gnomish automaton seems a little off beat for them, but am not really up to date enough with fantasy fluff to know.

A neat idea, but I don't think I could see it happening.

The Chaos Dwarfs already have thousands of slaves for their cannon fodder. Why waste the metal and energy to build an automaton when a slave goblin stops an arrow just as easily? I can't see them using the metal for them as in the latest Chaos army book they have are more involved in the chaos hordes by crafting most suits of chaos armor for the warriors, knights, chosen etc. And now that Hellcannons are used outside of Archaon's horde they need all the metal and materials they can get to satisfy the northmen.

I figure that even if they had automatons, they would use them as tireless labor as opposed to letting them get smashed in a battle.

Just my thoughts. But if you really want to then go for it.

well..

This being an Advance Outpost of the Mighty Hershuts Army but being terribly remote and all the way in Sylvania, and wanting to keep their presence very unknown, the Chaos Dwarves could not simply transport a vast number of slaves nor could they pillage the countryside to alert anyone of their presence.
So a labour shortage.. and given the War master (for lack of an official title yet) is a bit of a nut job but being favoured by the Leaders, they basicly exiled him and his followers out there..

This is what the player will learn as the progress and thankfully none of them are members here. So i can tell you how it goes.

So Favoured yet exiled from court with resources and a mine...hmmm

Hidden mine that is..

Such was my thinking for plot line and plausibility..

So an exiled chaos dwarf leader finds himself short on slave labor, so he builds some automatons to serve in the mines. Possibly powered by lesser daemons bound into them or simply with steam.

Sounds very much like the chaos dwarves. I like it, pretty plausible too. Should be fun to introduce this into a nice WHFRPG.

Seems feasible. He is making these Gnome-bots to avoid rousing suspicion. Would it be sort of an underground nexus type place?

There are some ways I can see CDs using automatons:

a. Minor slave daemons as cheap labour

b. More important daemons as elite shock troops

c. Sentries (won't tire, suffer fatigue, etc)

I have difficulty seeing the cannon fodder angle from what I know, although they're Chaos Dwarves, I'm not sure it squares with Dwarven Pride in making things that last.
