GW have just uploaded a new image of the Tyranid Hive Tyrant, painted in the Studio colours, making it look a lot nicer than the current unpainted pictures we have seen.

I've already got a larger, slightly more blurred pic of the new painted tyrant in my thread ;)

i think it looks a little better than i thought it did from the unpainted pic...but i'm still not exactly impressed with the new model....i think mainly 'cuz they've given it a bonesword...
maybe once the codex comes out and we get the new/changed/fixed rules for the 'nids i'll have a different opinion...hopefully it won't change the way i have to play/design my 'nids too much...

Oh come on. It's a vast improvement on the pish they released for 3rd Edition. Seriously. Look at it. No goofy grine, and it doesn't look like it's squatting down to pinch a loaf.
A perfect update of the classic 2nd Edition version. And a massive improvement on the rubbish one currently on release.

I like it, but I preferred the talons.

Release date is 4th June 05, according to the new WD, along with genestealers and the codex.
The tyrant guard is released on 25th June.

I don't like the whip...things. Is it just me, or does it look more 2nd ed nid-y?

Very 2nd Ed. nid-y with that bone sword (if in fact that's what it is).

sure looks like it would hurt to step on though...

personally i think i looks horrible, spose since im a sad lil boy and likes uniformity and the hand held weapons and different weapons on each hand instead of pairs spoil it. forgeworld models.... FAR superior.

It's better than the old one, that's for sure.
And by the way, people... the average spelling in this topic makes me want to gouge my eyes out. Learn to spell, goddamnit.

Wtf were they thinking when they gave it a freakin' SWORD? Its so... un-niddy. Methinks that one should replace the upper arms with the current scything talons and fix the lash whip looking dealies to the tail

...not a fan of this 'new' look, even though it does harken back to second edition. for what it's worth, which ain't much truth be told, but I much prefer the 3rd edition version of the HT...the current version seems...I dunno...more 'fake'. the 3rd edition seemed more possible...more organic and live than this does... oh well, I don't really play 'nids, so in the end I suppose it doesn't really matter, especially since this is the way their going with them.~

You know, I was just thinking that I would still buy the FW one over that one. I mean, massive!

I nearly pissed myself laughing when I read the 2 of these. You did NOT spell correctly, here's what the correct version looks like:
One the bone sword and lash whip combo looks crap too; I’d prefer the thing without the spines and a head like a bigger warrior head. And of course you need to have a pair of scything talons.
Hey Gojira, I did spell correctly.
Sorry for going off topic but I just HAD to say something. It's bad enough when you can't spell but it's even worse when you won't admit that you can't spell.

The Forgeworld one?
It does cost £55 so that might have something to do with it.
I like the new version except for the head horn and bone goatee which have to go (shouldn't be a big problem).
The bone sword doesn't actually do much in HtH (A TMC doesn't really need the help) but it acts as a psychic catalyst, improving this psychic power.
So far most of the new metal models are IMO an improvment over the rather poor 3rd edition versions (except the Zoanthrope which I still prefer the 3rd edition one, I'll be using both).

I think the new one looks neat, although I really liked the head from the previous one. Hopefully they fix the tyrant guard while they are at it.

I still can't get over how contrived and moronic a tyranid wielding a sword looks. The lash whip's better though, looks more organic, like a natural mutation of the arm.
The blue carapace looks yucky. Damn codex scheme.....

Like him lots. 3rd ed HT was too much of a rip off of the Alien Queen, like many other I hated the grin. Although the FW models were/are stunning. Bet there'll be a few pissed Nid players out there who bought those only to have the HT change. I like the 'retro' look and this beauty would fit in nicely with my 2nd ed era HT's. Strange, I've just updated one of my old HT's with new plastic claws & weapons and apart from using a Warrior crest on the head the two model bear a mrked resemblance. Bonesword I can live without TBH.
On the whole I like the new Nids. Not been a fan of the 'floaty' Thrope but the new one is a marked improvement on the 3rd ed on. Stealers just rock. I'm planning a unit of 'morphed up Stealers for my Nids. Just got two of the BfM Nid sprues from Ebay to supplement my Nid hordes.
The blue carapace looks yucky. Damn codex scheme.....
I liked the 3rd ed bone coloured bodies on the studio army and experimented with black armour with various edge combos, blue/green/red and came up with purple - what dose the studio go and do!!! Much as I hate to emulate GW studio schemes I do like the bone/black/purple scheme

Yep, bleached bone is where it's at for carapace, with a little brown wash. As for the flesh, I like dark red, 'stealers blue skin. Pink detail.

The Forgeworld one?
no just the normal one, with a pair of dragon wings from imriks dragon. Once youve done it you realise they made the model to have the wings as without them it looks weird and gangley.
