Heya guys,

Why do people argue or question about either Deathwing or Ravenwing having Apothecary in their unit?

Some say that its a command squad, when a command squad can never get Terminator Armor from codex Dark Angel.

They would even point to a GW pdf that I had been looking for and not found. The only pdf I know off is the FAQ/Errata sheets.

Any of you care to weigh in your opinion on this?

Deathwing or Ravenwing, may never have a command squad. However both Master Belial and Master Sammael allow one of their squads - Deathwing for Belial, Ravenwing for Sammael - to take an Apothecary and/or a Banner. So in all but name, this pretty much becomes a Command Squad.

Yeah and that Command Squad counts as a scoring unit

Sadly though, it's still not a squad you can get outside of the FOC, which means less bikes/termies. Just of several things that vex me about the DA codex ( like Why the hell Belial doesn't get an Iron halo).

Regardless of 5th ed. and the new SM codex, a lot still bothered me when I first got it. Regular landraiders only holding 5 termies (making them 2nd choice to crusaders if you took a termie HQ), no termie armor for company masters (though it's still an option for the other member of the hidden circle), well, Belial in general. Hell, they could have just had the Apoc/banner rule be : 1 command squad make be equipt with terminator armor, and one member may be upgraded to a Deathwing banner bearer (same with raven wing, only with bikes). It's not a bad codex per say, but there are a few things that don't make much sense.

Company Masters not having terminator armor makes sence, as fluff wise only Deathwing wears it and they have a special character for their commander. Same goes for bikes since Ravenwing are the only ones that get bikes(not counting chaplains/Librarians). As far as Land Radiers to my knowledge they have only ever held 10 models(termies counting as 2 models)whith the exception of the new SM Land Radier holding 12 I belive.

You can take one command squad for each Independent Character, though they do not get the options for terminator armor or bikes which makes them un-fluffy for Deathwing/Ravenwing, not to mention points used that are best spent on Terminators/Bikes. Best to do the above mentioned upgrade one of your troops with banner/apothecary, don't get the company champion but meh, he is not an end all be all must have character. Over all I have to say I like the DA codex it has some interesting options in it.

I actually prefer the fact that it is scoring. In 5th, having scoring units is huge, and that Apothecary makes those units a lot more survivable. Anyways, if you're running out of slots for bikes and termies, you're playing a very large game, and you might as well bring two FOC charts. 9 squads of bare-bones terminator squads with Belial runs over 2000 points. I can't see a situation where I wouldn't want to take LRs and dreadnoughts, so two FOC charts would be my chosen mode if I was trying to run fully half the Deathwing.
