  1. The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus

The Imaginarium, directed by Terry Gilliam, is...... odd, to say the least. It follows a traveling troupe who puts on shows that give it's audience something they werent quite expecting. Their luck turns around when they encounter a man who doesn't even remember his own name.

Terry Gilliam is probobly best known for Fear and Loathing in las Vegas. Anyone who has seen that knows just how trippy and surreal he can get. This movie has that in spades. The pure insanity leaping across ...

  2. The Fighter

The Fighter is the true story of Mickey Ward (Mark Whalburg), a professional boxer, and his brother and trainer, Dickie (Christian Bale).

Now then, I am not a boxing person. I haven't seen Rocky. I haven't seen Raging Bull. I had no intention of seeing this, despite the fact that it's not actually about boxing. However, my parents went to see it, so I tagged along. And I'm mostly glad I did. It's a fantastic story of family and loyalty, and the limits of both. If your familiar with ...

Inception, directed by Christopher Nolan, follows a team of highly skilled thiefs and artists who enter a mans dreams in an attempt to plant an idea deep in his subconcious.

A lot has been said for the complexity of this movie, and the idea behind it. I fell like this is somewhat misplaced. The concept of entering a persons dreams, and the rules that apply to it, are strange yes. And you will have to pay close attention early on to really understand it. But it is not terribly difficult ...

  4. The A-Team

The A-Team "remake" follows Hannibal Smith, "Faceman" Peck, Murdock, and B.A. Barracus as they work to clear their names of a crime they didn't commit.

Obviously this is a remake of the old tv show. While there are some references here and there, some subtle but most not, you don't need to have seen the show at all. This is intented as it's own franchise, and it establishes the characters from the very beginning. It doesn't expect you to know who they are already. Hannibal Smith (Liam ...

  5. True Grit (plus a minor change)

by , 23rd December 2010 at 00:21 (The Silver Lining Movie Reviews)
First things first. I've decided to not give movies an actual score anymore. As I said in the beginning, I judge (and subsequently score) movies based on how enjoyable they are. Well, it has occured to me that that can change over time. In fact, how enjoyable a movie is will vary day to day with your mood. If I sat down and watched Lawrence of Arabia right now, I wouldn't enjoy it that much. Thats not to say it's a bad movie, it's just that I'm not in the mood to watch such a film right now. So, ...
