Its an idea I have been playing with for a while but I have only just come up with enough fluff etc for it to make sense in 40K.
First the teams for stats to be based on (of course modification may be needed):
Amazon Teams - Tau (nimble, low armour)
Chaos Teams - Chaos
Elf Teams:
High Elves/Wood Elves/Pro Elves - Eldar
Dark Elves - Dark Eldar
Goblin Teams - Grots
Human Teams - Guard
Norse Teams - Space Marines
Nurgle Teams - Nurgle Themed Chaos
Ogre Teams - Daemons (strong but resist commands instead of stupidness)
Orc Teams - Orks
Skaven Teams - Genestealer cult (as a Cult is the only team that wouldn't be thinking KILL EAT KILL out of the Nids)
Undead Teams - Necrons (due to the getting back from the dead rule not sure what of the 3 undead teams they should be)
Halflings and Dwarfs didn't have any real counterparts so I removed these but I may swap count as rules for one of the teams if balance is needed.
Fluff:
On the Dark Eldar homeworld of Commorragh there are many bloody games and fights to the death in the arenas, the twisted denizens of the planet gather for a new spectacle a team sport known only as Blood Bowl!
Slaves are split into team of which they will play well with such as Cultists and Chaos marines and Tau and Kroot and forced to take part in the sport with the slave discs, they are promised that if they win the tournament they will gain their freedom (its is unknown if this is true or a lie). The home team who take pride in shedding blood for their people are the only non slave team to take part.
Armies fluff:
Tau - For survival the Tau take part.
Chaos/Nurgle Themed Chaos - Its unknown if this is for survival or the will of their Dark Gods for the Cultists and Marines to take part.
Eldar - They are aware of that freedom is a lie but take part for a chance to upset their darker brethren with the survival and success.
Dark Eldar - The home team play for their own entertainment as much as the crowds.
Grots - Like the Orks Grots like the bloodshed but more so play for the chance of freedom.
Guard - For survival the Guard play.
Space Marines - To destroy the enemies of the emperor anyway they can and to gain freedom to level the city of Commorragh.
Daemons - Summoned by a powerful chosen of chaos they play but due to their nature they sometimes resist commands and simply stand their ground.
Orks - More to do with the enjoyment of the bloody sport than survival do the Orks take part.
Genestealer cult - As per their Magus (Coach) commands do the Genestealer cult take part for a chance at freedom.
Necrons - It is unknown if the Dark Eldar have "overwritten" the Necron to take part or if they are aware this is their only chance at survival.
All guns are removed and the only weapons aloud are those found in the Dark Eldar Blood Bowl armoury along with bits of armour and helmets for the players to use in conjunction with that they still have.
In my version of Blood Bowl you keep everything from the field game lines are painted in blood and the Dark Eldar watch from the crowd, the only thing I am not sure of is the Cheerleaders as the Dark Eldar will support different teams for bets so maybe Dark Eldar Cheerleaders promoting the teams.
This is my take on converting the game to the 40k universe anyway, it will need a bit of play testing etc also some swapping about of characters or stats to suit each army/team.
I am hoping that an experience BB player will be able to help out with this as once 100% I can make a rulebook for it
