Porcelain Under Her Skin

by SourImplant on 27th August 2015 at 16:07
There's a song that came out five or six years ago that says, "I quit smoking, women and drinking last night / It was the worst 15 minutes of my life." In theory, I like that. It's funny in the same vein as "I'm a drunk, alcoholics go to meetings," or another song from a couple years earlier that says, "The more I drink, the more I drink."

It's always around this time of year I tend to go on a real bender. I stay out all hours of the night, wake up hungover

Writing a Novel: Week 1 - Characters

by SourImplant on 12th February 2014 at 02:02
Now I have a small cast of characters at the ready for this story. It's only 15 right now -- not the 20 I was shooting for -- but others will come in time.

Of course, there are already a couple of standout favorites. The gangster, the lawyer, the cop and the gambler are all looking like the central characters. The prostitute's mother, the preacher and the mechanic are obvious choices for secondary and background characters. Not sure yet about the homewrecker, the prostitute or the

Problem is, I never really had a plan. I'd write until I found myself at a dead end -- sometimes after two pages, sometimes twenty -- and then stop. It was going nowhere. I suddenly didn't like where this

Orks v. Space Marines (1500 Points)

by SourImplant on 18th October 2013 at 14:48
Sat down last night and played my first game against the new Space Marines codex. Admittedly, the army I played against wasn't anywhere near optimal, as my opponent fielded what he could out of his small and slightly outdated collection of Space Marine models.

Painting Gray Scale

by SourImplant on 9th July 2013 at 15:18
I look at a lot of painting articles. Tips and tutorials, stage by stage guides and examples of various techniques. In looking through all of these things, I came across this beauty:

Now, the model itself isn't painted in gray scale. That was actually done in either Photoshop or Gimp as an example of highlighting a generally dark model. The actual finished model is this:

But it
