Alternatives to GW paint.
I've just read an article about paints and various other hobby related stuff, and came across two things of interest.
The first is a range of paints made by a company that I've not heard of, but I've no doubt that many others have, and apparently they make the citadel paints for GW. They also sell them themselves, but in a larger pot for a cheaper price, and use the older recipe for their mixtures. Linky here;-

"But how do I know what colour is what?!?" I hear you wail! Well, there is the good bit - the second part is the colour chart detailing the paints made by coatdarms and comparing them to what GW call them;-

I haven't checked them all out, but I think that some of the recently deleted colours and inks which many people still liked might be made by this company.
Just thought it'd be worth mentioning, and if anyone has used these, or can recommend some other paints, please feel free to add them in.

Re: Alternatives to GW paint.
Yes its good to know some other routes for paint supply. I think citadel paints are now £2.20 which was a 20p rise so getting quite expensive.
Any ideas for undercoat spray this is now over £7 where it was only £6 before. A guy I know uses car spray paint for when he does vehicles. He is a bit of a perfectionist so it must be good stuff. Will try and find out what sort he uses.

Re: Alternatives to GW paint.
i myself was forced into an alternative, the guy who owned the store here where i live in montana went out of business.. i find that Testors paints work well enough, they are still pretty reasonable in price (about $1.50.) plus with my WWII color scheme i was able to buy a whole kit with WWII paints, sanding films, glue, pva glue, and a painters tray for like 20$ so it was nice.
as for spray painting models for a basecoat/undercoat i myself have my marines o.d. green. so i grabbed a small can of flat o.d. green and gave em a good light coat... it is pretty nice cause you dont run into smudging or paint strokes showing up. i learned this the hard way by trying to paint a scout bike with brushes, it looked terrible... i had to scrap the project entirely, (there goes 12 bucks) but once i tried a basecoat with some spray paint, as long as you are careful you get a beautiful even coat. plus it saves time

Re: Alternatives to GW paint.
For colours not in the GW spectrum, such as more muted, or realistic tones, I use Foundry paint. I don't often use real alternatives.
