BigMek Gradgrot's Looting Waaagh. [WE'Z LOOTIN A TITAN]

I'm starting a painting blog. This blog will focus purely on making an Ork armoured force for Apocalypse for as little as possible - Things that i've salvaged from old armies, things people give me, or things I buy for cheap second hand.
Any vehicle I loot that was already painted when I got it, will NOT be re-painted. True looted vehicles should show their former owner's colours.
This data will be updated as I gain new units and purchase things in.

Current amount spent on the Waaagh: £68.85

    Units to be converted/painted/built/recieved
Adeptus Mechanicus Mars Pattern Warhound Titan - Looted Warhound Arrived 20% Complete Pre-Looting - Brainstorming Ideas - Progress of Left Arm 1 - Progress of Left Arm 2 -
Eldar Fire Prism - Trukk - Arrived Donated by Edmundblack. 80% Complete. Lower Half Complete -
Imperial Guard Leman Russ - Looted Wagon - Arrived Donated by Brother Michael.
Imperial Space Marine Land Raider Tank - Battlewagon - Arrived

1 Eldar Grav Tank (completeness unknown. I do not know Eldar.) - Arrived Donated by EC!
1 Ork Stompa - Arrived Donated by EC!
A mysterious assortment of parts - "Da Stomplets" (Two Deff Dredds)

    Units Complete to date:

Imperial Space Marine Rhino (OOP) - Trukk Complete - Additional Story & Images
Imperial Guard Griffon Tank (OOP) - Looted Wagon Complete
Imperial Guard Basilisk Tank - Looted Wagon - Donated by Baragash [Images in Griffon link]
Chaos Space Marine Land Raider Tank - Battlewagon "Landkrooza" Schematic - Complete

    Want to help the Waaagh?
I need a lot of stuff to make this Waaagh possible. I'm really trying to loot anything I can. If you have spare bits, weapons, gubbinz, details, or damaged and unwanted vehicles, I will take them off of your hands. I can pay postage and pay a small amount for the items you're willing to send via Paypal if you have it. Without your donations, this Waaagh will not continue on forever.

    Current Wanteds
One plastic Ork Biker (from newer kits)
Grot Krew (From Biker, Nob or Stompa kits)
    Spare Ork Boyz
    Ork Stompa components
    Spare parts from Super-Heavy kits
ENGINE COMPONENTS - Imperial (Sentinels and IG Tanks) , Chaos & Marine (Land Raiders), Ork (Kans and Dredds)
Sensors, Targetters & Scopes - Sniper scopes, bolter scopes, ork boyz nob scope, Devastator backpack, vehicle sensor systems... ANY!
The front-facing prong from a Land Speeder

    Will Work for Gubbins!
Like what you see? I'm willing to work for any Ork Warboss who needs a vehicle looted. You send me the vehicle and components you want with an outline of the project, I loot it.
As far as spare parts are concerned, whatever I finds, I keeps.

    __________________________________________________
Seeing as this is a Painting Blog, my first post will show off the Looted Russ tank.

From this side you can see a plate holding a damaged Hunter-Killer missile down. It can't use it in game, but when I found this model, that H-K was already broken, so I felt it would be Orky to bolt it down.
Also visible is an Ork Glyph for "Squig", which is used to mean food, storage or useful. Note the Heavy Bolter being replaced by a Shoota.

Most prominent is the Orky armour plating on the body but also the turret. The Lascannon was removed and the holder re-assembled and then boarded over to achieve this. This represents the lower armour value of the vehicle.
Sadly, what isn't visible is a piece of track that was missing. I put the Ork 'Mek' glyph on a hand-cut replacement piece.

Okay, here's the other side. I put some random armour over the Sponson, added an Orkish face thing, and made another, different Shoota. Cuz Orks shouldn't be symmetrical.
Also notice the blanket on the Sponson. When I found this model, it had a metal rolled up blanket stuck to it. I don't know where this piece comes from.
It has been painted Tartan, at the request of Malc.

Here's the rear of the vehicle.
The Engine stacks look much chunkier and Orkier, but those pieces are actually connectors from a Warhound Titan that fit the tubes and power leads into the back of the weapons.
The flooring panel has also warped out of place, but I chose not to fix it, in the spirit of Orkyess.

Re: Ork Looted Vehicles: A Painting Waaagh.

Looks like a very nice start. But it's not orky enough!

They need rust stains especially over the guns and stuff; or if not rust then darker, not so shiney and all the human emblems need to be scoured off, or replaced. Plus more damage. If they've been looted then they've been blown up, repaired (and by that I mean ORK REPAIRED!) and sent back out. I reckon a few more dents and dings, plus more ork panels sealing breaches and the like.

    More please ^_^

Re: Ork Looted Vehicles: A Painting Waaagh.

Here's a shot of the top of the vehicle.
When I found it, the armoured plate for the top of it was missing. This part was an armour for the Warhound Titan's gun assembly, but with a bit of plasticard and putty work, it makes a perfect heavily armoured hatch.

Yeah, this first one was kind of light on the scrap - I don't yet have a large enough array of Bitz to completely kit it out with kustum parts.
If I can aquire a new Ork Trukk kit, that'd give me the pieces I need to make an awesome converted one though. I have a plan in my head for it.

I can't see pictures from this computer but when I come home I will have a look at them, but from what I can tell it sounds a original idea
    Good Luck,

Hehe. Luck and Funding are needed. Making Orky forces are fairly limited by the rules - it's got to be Looted Wagon, Battle Wagon, Trukk, Deff Dred, Killa Kan or Stompa really. Orks are light on the super heavies, from what I recall.

Not true, from apocolyse you can create your own units by using data-sheets, I have crated a ork transporter thing that stores trukks in it, it can hold all the ork units except battlewagons and stompas,

    I forgot to mention battlefortress.
I'd prefer not to make things up. People have different opinions on what's acceptible, and i'd like as much of this army as possible to be fully playable.

What about ork bikers? They are on vehicles like ork Deffkoptas, forge world have some examples. Some of them are not too crazy

Re: Ork Looted Vehicles: A Painting Waaagh. [Rhino Trukk update!

Here's the new Rhino-Trukk kunvershun i've been working on.
This one, I did have to strip the paint off, but I re-painted the hull in the same colour it was when I got it.
Working on this one was a bit of a challenge - Older kits don't have detailed interiors, so I had to mock up an interior for the Rhino from scratch. It was fun, though.
Also, my partner, Sammich, has done a bit of the sculpting on this one, she's learning and enjoying it, so she's officially my Spannaboy.
Now, this currently doesn't have a gun on it. I'm going to be rigging an Imperial Guard missile launcher up through the one single hole left on the top.

We'll start with this side, as it's the most plain side on the entire vehicle. It's the side that didn't get hit by an attack. It's just got some minor armour plates to the rear.

Here's the rear. As you can see, it's been entirely torn out, and a long sloped orky plate has been put in, to fit more Boyz into it.

Here's a shot of what's inside, hiding the kroo kompartment. Also visible is the new detailed floor. As you can see, there's no way in from this side.

Here's the other side. I like to think this is the side in which the explosion either entered or exited. It's got a nice ladda for climbing in on it, and a speed glyph to the rear. You can also see a stray armour plate sticking up. This is the side my Spannaboy helped with.

And here's the front side. You can see that not only is it wonky where it's been re-built, but there's a huge DOOR here to let the occupant inside. I'm sure some of you are going "so how do they see? Surely the orks aren't that mental."

And you'd be right. Here's the Spotta-Grot. He tells them what way to steer.
It's just a grot's head glued to the back of the door, I didn't see a need to make the door hinged at all, so it's just a spare from the new plastic set.

    Next up: Titan-BigMek Stompa!

Re: Ork Looted Vehicles: A Painting Waaagh. [Rhino Trukk update]

Just letting you all know not to forget me! The Rhino is complete, just waiting on a photograph to be taken.
The other two looted wagons just need their GS work and finishing touches and then they're done.

I am really in need of a Plastic Nob, or the guy off of the Stompa sprue that is aimed at being the Kaptin for the Titan-Stompa project. Without that, I can't start work on it's head conversion.

Re: Ork Looted Vehicles: A Painting Waaagh. [Rhino Trukk update]

    make it look really orky:
    1. give a story behind each vehicle-take the vehicle in question, an ork squad and see what happens, bit childish, but have a knife and drill ready to make bullet holes/scratches where the orks are firing from.
    2. start the rest of the conversion, take human elements out first.
    3. start putting orky armour on (and yes, the place where you got carried away on number 1 is a good place to put some, it may be orky but even they cant drive a tank with no sides)
    4. add extra weaponry, 'modify' the current guns etc.
    5. paint it. remember orks beliefs in colours:
    red=fast
    blue=lucky(?)

remember, orks are stupid, brutal and supersticious things. act like them when modifying a vehicle and it will look great.
    also, BIGGER IS BETTER.

    *quotes GW website*
The Baneblade is a one model army. The largest plastic kit Games Workshop has ever made,
The awesome new Ork Stompa is the largest plastic miniature we've ever made.

    hmmmmm.....

Re: Ork Looted Vehicles: A Painting Waaagh. [Rhino Trukk update]

I wouldn't say Orks are stupid. Anyone that can make a vehicle with a hole as wide as it is move is pretty damn clever. Orks are very cunnin', and can make weapons that no Imperial can figure out, work. The next two are nearly ready now. They're a little different.

I really need grot krew for these things. If anyone has some spare tekkies, assistants or orderlies, i'd like to purchase them from you.

Just an update to say the Waaagh's cost has been increased by £29.40 for the inclusion of two Land Raiders that will also be looted, each becoming a Battlewagon.
Also, in line with what was requested above, the next time I take photos, Profile shots of vehicles will be added, as well as brief backstories.

i personally love the orks. the conversion capabilities alone are well worth collecting orks. also the troop choices are really cheap points wise that is. Great job on this conversion, by the way. i've kinda always wanted to see a big shottin' type hut that can hold 2 to 3 orks inside or just one big shoota on top of the tank... just a thought ^_^

Re: Ork Looted Vehicles: A Painting Waaagh. [Two Looted Wagons!]

'ere we go on da update for this Workshop!

The backstory shots'll come later. When I can be bothered to make something up. Dynamic shots of the old vehicles will be up at that point too.

Let's start today off with Baragash's looted Bassie.
This arrived to me fully painted, with the only damage being the little railings at the back of it. How pristine a vehicle for a cost of NOTHING!

Starting it off as tradition goes, on the most boring side. A little hole here where something important exploded (note plates torn outwards) with some simple mesh repair on it. Also visible is the kustum Shoota this vehicle has on it.

    Here's the front.
This vehicle was so pristine, it was upsetting to have to gut it at all. But, needs must, and Orks can't be seen with imperial weapons, so both the Storm Bolter and Heavy Bolter that it had were renched off. Simple armor plating, 'Mek' glyph, and of course a new gun. I stuck it to the pintle mount just to mix things up a bit from the other Imperial looter jobs i've got.

Other side. Here we have an upside-down Rhino door to allow access to the inside of the vehicle. Because access is vital for getting your Krew in, and those silly Oomies don't usually build doors big enough for an Ork to get through. As for why the door's upside down, I haven't a clue. It caught my fancy, so I stuck it there. Custom Ork glyph on the door, Ork plastic Banna pole visible above it.

Rear shot. Uhm. May as well mention the hand holding the backdrop in place is mine
In this shot here, you can see the detail of the... big stupid guard thing this vehicle has over the cannon. One side's bent and the other's missing the corner (been rebuilt though. Good as new!)

Here's the Dynamic shot just to let you see what it'd be like on the tabletop. It's kind of sterile right now, because it's lacking a Krew on the gun. If anyone has spare Orks or Grots they would like to donate to man this looted wagon, they are appreciated.
    Time for features!

This is a closeup of the door. A Rhino door does NOT fit into the gap cut in the armour plate, so it had to be hacked to buggery to fit in.

Closeup of the rather dark looking Bosspole. Why it's a boss vehicle, I don't know. But it's got a pole. Originally, an antenna was there. But I thought it wasn't Orky enough, so I drilled through it and placed this there. It comes off for transportation purposes.

Here's the armour plate's "fixer-upper" patch. It's partly simple Plasticard, but half of the blue bit is actually Greenstuff, lovingly crafted to look like a bent panel of the metal.

And here's that Kustum Shoota. Before anyone feels the need to point it out, Yes, this is a cut down and cut up Autocannon from the Imperial Guard Heavy Weapon Team. Cookie to you.

As I promised, backstories will be up later, so right onto the third Looted Vehicle in the collection.
An OOP Griffon tank. It was so hard to get hold of one of these, and I butchered the bastard
Take that, person who was bidding against me for it!

Left side. Not really the most boring side. Probably the most effort put into a side I didn't drill a hole into. Using some metal wire looted from Kirsty's college (See how far this lootin' gig goes?) I made a sort of 'roll cage' inspired barrier around the less-armoured section of the tank, and then plated it up with Orky armour technology at it's finest. I think it's a simple but effective change, and the way the armour's on there, there is crawl space to glue in some Grot Riggers if I ever get hold of them.

Front side. Here we see another Kustum Shoota up close, and not much else. Well, not all vehicles get hit in an attack from the front, even if they are up against Orks.
This shoota, for the clever clogs out there, is made from the Imperial Guard Heavy Weapons Team's Mortar. You'd be surprised how much of those sprues that are thought to be "spare" once you've picked your weapon can actually be re-used for Orky shootas.

Right side. Sammich's favorite side. This is where the obvious problems happened. Squig-bomb, tank-hamma, whatever it was, it hit here and it hit big. You could probably transport an entire squad of Grots in that hole.

And a rear view. No, it hasn't been touched at all. I didn't see a need to. The side obviously got the brunt of the attack, so there's no reason to muller this bit. Plus that base is metal and I don't want to break my worn-out clippers on it.

Top view. Note the lack of a Krew on this one too. I really am in need of some Grot Tekkies or something here.

Dynamic View. Just so you can take in the ugliness of Ork engineering at a glance.

Only one feature worth mentioning on this one. HOOOOOOOOLE. The cables are the same metal wire I used to make the cage on the other side, and it uses some aluminium mesh offcuts, randomly twisted and glued into place. The mechanical doodad was a bit that I got sent from someone I forget in America (Sorry, I know you're a member here!). So I have no clue where it's from originally, but it looks like a technological thingymajig, so it suits the purpose.

Credit for all photos here goes to Sammich. <3

Re: Ork Looted Vehicles: A Painting Waaagh. [One story up]

Today I bring you two new photos and one backstory.

Previously owned by the Crimson Fists, this old Rhino was used by a Veteran squad. The unit specialised in melee maneuvers, especially their commanding Sergeant, whom was equipped with two master-crafted Power fists.
As the Rhino tore over the open lands in an attempt to engage the Warboss Zodslag Morteef, it was ambushed from its left side by a mob of Bomb Squigs. The initial explosion tore off the hatch, allowing for more to leap in through the hole. Caught by surprise, there was no time for the occupants to bail out before the gnashing Squig assailants detonated violently, tearing the vehicle's hull apart.
When this hulk was dragged into the Mek's Workshop, he immediately began eying specific pieces of scrap, having something in mind. It was only fitting, if this Trukk was used by the Oomies bestest fighters, that he re-build it for Da Nobz. This means the Krew should not be allowed to mingle with them, hence the use of Da Spottagrot (trademark) navigation system.

I like, I think that you've used just enough Orky bits to make it look looted - they just patch it up as it goes...
    I like, keep it up.
