Went to Cheddar Gorge a couple of weeks ago with the missus. This pic is the reflection of the ceiling in a pool of water, which looks like a picture of a valley taken from a nearby hill.

Just saw this magnificent creature land on the wall of our house. I've never seen one before, and it was a sight to behold. I think she's a Queen Bee of some sort, and was easily about 1.5 long. She took off with a wonderful deep-base thrumming sound. Glorious.

Having done some research, it's in fact one of these: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volucella_zonaria Otherwise known as a "Hornet mimic Hoverfly".

Wow. Is that your "back garden" then tone? That's gorgeous. Makes you want to get into a canoe and go for a paddle, pitch up, fish for dinner and relax under the stars by fire.

That was where I went last weekend to give a talk at a conference. It is Banff Alberta. One of the complete opposite settings to where I live (Toronto) which is just all skyscrapers and suits. Definitely a breath of fresh air and a welcome weekend treat. It was nice to get out of the city for a bit and enjoy some of the settings that you do EB

I've seen your pics, and your backyard is quite stunning.

Sun rise taken at Fraser Island, Queensland, Australia. The reason I'm posted this one is that it was taken with a crappy disposable camera and I thought it came out surprisingly good, if a bit grainy

School is taking up way too much time.

Ohh, you'd so hate it tone. Full of green countryside that's not snowed in for 3 months of the year, hills, rivers, streams, wildlife that's not intent on killing you, sea, beaches and buildings around 800 years old and ruins up to 2000 years old.

Of course, if you were to come over here, it'd be you, me, Pyro & Mrs Pyro (to start with at least) + pub.
