Re: What are Guardians good for?
I guess they need support from other units, just like the rest of the Eldar Codex, but yes, on their own they suck.
“A man must know his destiny… if he does not recognize it, then he is lost. By this I mean, once, twice, or at the very most, three times, fate will reach out and tap a man on the shoulder… if he has the imagination, he will turn around and fate will point out to him what fork in the road he should take, if he has the guts, he will take it.” - General George S. Patton

Re: What are Guardians good for?
Do they have any advantages, compared to Avengers? Avengers seem like a much better choice, especially with all those Farseer spells and if they are in a Serpent. My friend would likely have an offensive oriented army, so the weapons platform doesn't seem to useful.

Re: What are Guardians good for?
They give you more bodies and can make ok holders with Avatar and Conceal, but yes, they are pretty bad compared to DAs.
It was nice to have a full squad be joined by Asurman and have them bladestorm, but I think that it was FAQed against that.
GW does not hate non-Space Marine armies. They just don't give a FAQ.

Re: What are Guardians good for?
Well, my friend isn't looking at buy stuff like the Avatar yet. He wants to get some troops, see what they are good and bad at, and cover his weaknesses. Since it seems like Guardians are weak at everything, I'll suggest not buying any to him.
But he did but the battleforce, so are the ones he already has just going to be a point sink that's going to get shot to shreds, or can he use them with anything else?

I was gonna say Guardians are good for dying but in reality they are good for running off the board.Originally Posted by Durandal

Sometimes I take one unit 10-15models with a missile launcher to hold my home objective.
Otherwise you really need an avatar.

Re: What are Guardians good for?
A warlock with conceal should help them with survivability a lot. There are good at holding the home objective. If you can actually get a full squad into range, they are actually quite devastating.

Re: What are Guardians good for?
2 words, Storm Guardians... backed up by a destructor Warlock and 2 flamers, and packed into a wave serpant, these guys will fry a squad and then mop up in combat

Re: What are Guardians good for?
A full squad of guardians is as devistating as 10 dire avengers with blade storm. Only it costs more, has less range, cant cruz along in the safety of a wave serpent and is totaly screwed if anyone with a flamer does so much as look at them. They are also horrible in combat and are never going to get to shoot at anything without a) suffering alot of casualties first and b) getting charged immediatly after.Originally Posted by Zawicki
They are cheap and with embolden have decent leadership. They can form a barrier between your enemy and your real units.
No! Now quit asking.

Re: What are Guardians good for?
They're a cheap troop choice if you want to skimp on troops and focus on elites.
Their heavy weapon can be useful.
They sit on objectives.
They can screen a wraithlord from getting assaulted and prevent wraithsight bullcrap too if you add a warlock.
In my experience, they're usually just a heavy weapon that your opponent won't bother killing for several turns (unless they're on an objective), which means you get quite a few shots off before they start paying attention.

This is a bad advice.Originally Posted by Zawicki
The question you should be asking your friend is what type of an eldar army he wants to play? Be it Mechdar, Saim-Hann, Ghost Army at least one of these.
I know he'll run into the biggest problem everyone usually get into... Acceptable Mobility and Firepower.

- When are you going to play?
