So the Blood bowl video game

So who's got it and been leading their teams to glorious victory scoring tons of touchdowns and crushing your opposition as well? I have and really been enjoying it.

I must say it is very faithful to the actual game especially turn based mode with a mode that completely follows the rules and then the blitz mode which adds some nice new features as well. Not tried the real time mode at all so can't say much about it.

Only has orcs, gobbo's, skaven, humans, chaos, lizardmen, dwarves and wood elves so far though but Dark Elves will soon be making an appearance in the next update which is a good sign the rest of the teams will be added as well.

Commentators are okay but get repetitive very quickly and it ain't very friendly to new players to the game and the manual and tutorials aren't to helpful either heck it's actually better to read the rule book instead then use them. Also can't kill the ref which is annoying how am I meant to beat the crap out of downed enemies if he keeps sending my players off.

Still enjoying it and defintely I recommend to other blood bowl fans and if any of you are currently playing it. Cecils gutter runners are ready to fight yer any time.

How is the online play? A bunch of cheese-heads who play a precise set of tactics that they found online, or people playing the game just for fun?

Only played a couple of online game as I'm not a online game fan unless it's with mates or people I know so can't really say really however AI I find is actually pretty good and it's given me some pretty good games bar 1 game where I thrashed it I mean 5-0 should not be possible to accomplish that easily but thats only happened once the rest of the games have been quite good.

Speaking of which here is the injury/death box of said 5-0 of the team I was fighting.

I remember posting something up about this when I first heard about it. I didn't realize it had been released. I may have to check it out.

How is the game play? I read a review of a much older game called "Chaos League" which was apparently like trying to play a real time game of blood bowl, with a game engine that resembled the baulder's gate infinity engine. Lots of mad frantic clicking, and blood pressure medication, required.

So is it fairly intuitive? causes lots of stress? I really want to know. I hate going out and getting my hopes up that i am going to really enjoy a game, only to be disappointed by poor game design.

    No! Now quit asking.

There are 2 game modes. One is bog standard blood bowl and works pretty much the same way as playing the real game.

The other mode is blitz mode this adds a whole bunch of new features to blood bowl such as you can choose to play in real time not just turn based though being only a turn based player can't say how well that works. It also adds the ability to buy extra equipment for your team as they progress, train before each match and extended inducements letting you buy spells, bribe the ref, bring in some extra fans, injure a enemy team player, take a potion and other things. You also gain the ability to have a sponsor who will give you extra money for completing certain tasks e.g. get a fan factor of 10.

One down side to blitz mode is when purchasing players they only stay for a limited number of seasons as you buy contracts and after it ends you have to pay to keep the player or they leave. Also players age as well in blitz and after a certain amount of time they become to old to play and retire and the more injuries they suffer the faster this occurs.

Gameplay for turn based works exactly like a normal blood bowl game so not much else I can say about it.

Graphics are all right though I do kind of wish the injuries and tackles were better as they are bit bland.

Overall if you like Bloodbowl I suggest getting it but for those who haven't played it before can't really say if you'd enjoy it or not but it's worth giving it a go.

    Multiplayer Edit

Okay played some multiplayer games today with varying result (2 wins, 2 draws and 1 loss).

Default multiplayer rules are bog standard table top though there are other leagues with different rules as well.

There is a definite mix of players most do play for fun though from what I've seen though I did encounter one who was a exception his team being one designed only to crush your team into the ground e.g. full black orcs and blitzers and ref bribes so most of your team was downed and then crushed and the ref of course turned a blind eye. The rest were a good mix.

You can tell the strength of a players team by it's rating and race only the higher the better but thats it you won't know what it contains until you fight it which I find is fine. There is also a reliability percentage which shows how many games they have not disconnected from for whatever reason which I find useful as while a couple of disconnects if fine if they have a lot it's probably not worth fighting them.

Now back to squishing my opponents and watching my gutter runners getting touchdowns as they dodge my opponents.

Re: So the Blood bowl video game

Well i went and bought the damn game. The game manual is as usless as used toilet paper. I had to download the blood bowl rule book to figure out what was really going on.

Anyway I was wondering if somone could tell me how inducements work in this game. As in, how does it work out how much cash a team gets before the game to purchase inducements. I always have 0 gp whilst the team im up against is buying star players. I cant afford to dip into the team funds, and even if i did i still wouldnt be able to afford a star player.

    No! Now quit asking.

You have to contribute money from your team funds and that money goes to inducements that game. I never bothered saving up for star players they are nice but not needed and only last for that 1 game. I just go for extra rerolls with inducements always handy to have.

Here's what I heard. I do not profess it's infallibility.

The company who did Blood Bowl is the same company that released Chaos League. GW then promptly sued them (surprise), settling out of court and then working up this deal in the aftermath. This is very much similar to the Crypitc vs. Marvel (another suit happy company) action. They sued, settled, and then suddenly Cryptic was on deck with Marvel Online, which died and became Champions.

    Wacky world of IP.

The game has not been released in the States, and last I checked they were still waffling on the date.

Re: So the Blood bowl video game

I was under the impression that teams were given money for inducements and they could add to that with team funds if they wanted to. It costs 100 grand just to be able to bribe the ref once. Theres no way a goblin team could afford to do that every game.

oh by the way, real time mode is a bit of a joke. Especialy if you try to play as gobbos. It just doesnt let players work together to assist in tackles effectivly. While you can basicly use gutter runners or wood elfs to just run right past the enemy defense most of the time.

Haven't touched the real time mode so can't say as in my opinion you want to play blood bowl you've got to play it turn based none of this real time nonsense.

That pretty much works the same in turn based as well *pats his gutter runner with block, side step, +1 M, leader and dodge on the head*.

I'm really interested in this game, always have been. If it's as good as you say (despite a useless manual) I might have to buy into it.

If the above post comes off with a negative tone, you're reading it wrong.
