    [1000][SpaceMarines][Casual/Fun]

    Hi guys!

    |EDIT| So, as can be concluded from the only reaction I received, the list was no good. So I changed it. I believe it's confirm the rules now and I think it's a decent list.

    this is a list I dreamed up for casual 1000pt battles. It'll be my first 1000pt army and I tried to keep it playable against a mayority of opponents. Obviously, it won't work terrifically well against hardcore mech lists, but I think it should hold it's own against moderate armour. So here it is;

    List
    [HQ]
    Pedro Kantor - 175

    [Troops]

    Tactical Squad w/ 10 Marines, P.cannon, Meltagun, m.bombs + Droppod - 220.
    Tactical Squad w/ 10 Marines, P.cannon, Meltagun, m.bombs + Droppod - 220.

    [Elite]
    5 Sternguard veterans /w powerfist, combi-melta + Droppod - 165.

    [Heavy Support]
    Predator "Annihilator" w/ Tw. L.cannon, extra armour - 120
Predator "Destructor" w/ Hb. side-sponsons, extra armour 100

    [1000/1000]

    Theory
Like most deep-striking armies, take second turn. Then, using the "Droppod Assault", deep-strike the tacticals, seeing as Pedro Kantor needs to still be alive at the end to the game, keep him and the sterns in reserve a little while longer. The "Annihilator" predator will assault enemy armour while the destructor will hassle enemy troops. 'round them pesky objectives (or straight up kill them in killpoint missions.)

    Discussion
Like I said before, it probably won't work against mechs, but I myself like the general feel of the army. Maybe a tad too elitair and not necessairily suited for Killpoint missions, but oké for objectives IMO.

    Criticism is welcomed!

The biggest issue I see here is that you cannot take both a drop pod and a razorback as a dedicated transport for one tactical squad. You could take two different squads of 5, but then you wouldn't have access to the special or heavy weapons.

Oh, and you suggested putting your captain in the pod... can't do that if he's on a bike. Plus, being the only guy zooming around with no squad to soak up wounds, he won't last long against anything with a gun.

And if I'm not mistaken, you cannot deploy both parts of a tactical squad using two different methods... i.e. you can't drop pod 5 of them and begin the game with 5 already on the table. (this part my not be entirely true, as I don't have the book here with me to review).

As for composition and tactics, I don't think this list would do very well. Even for 1k points, it's a very low model count, no real hard hitting weapons and nothing but the Sternguard to handle any swarms you encounter at those points (you can have a ton of ork boyz at 1k still). I'd drop down to 5 Sternguard, throw your captain in the razorback with them with hellfire rounds and a bolter and use the points you saved to pick up either a kitted out predator or better yet, a Vindicator.

Probably not what you wanted to hear, but I hope it helps.

Ofcourse, I didn't know about not being able to select to different transports for 2 combatsquads, which kinda sucks because it was the very principal I based the idea on. To go short you're saying:
    -Give the captain a squad
    -More models
    -More firepower

    Would that about cover it?

    What's your paypal account?
    Penny for your thoughts

The side-sponsons idea is really nice and I'll be using that for sure. The melta-bombs issue will be reviewed as I rebuild the list (thanks for checking, but you shoud've saved yourself the hassle. Thanks anyway).

    Peace out

Like you said could be a little thin for a 1000 point list model-wise but it should do fine for casual games. You might wanna re-check your points, I built the list and it came up as 1040.

Extra armor is generally a waste on tanks - usually I only utilize it with transports. Tanks need to shoot, transports need to get men to targets - and extra armor allows you to keep moving.

Also, IMO it would be better to run the first Pred with AC on top and two LCs on the sponsons - more shots for the same price.

Melta bombs are effective, but they are limited in strictly anti-tank applications. Power fists are a more versatile option, though they lack the extra D6 armor pen in favor of more attacks. Plus the cost 20 points more a piece.
