Vassal
Anyone intrested in playing Warhammer 40k online?
VASSAL is a boardgame emulator (or soemthing like that ). You flip in the right module and play 40k. It has no rules or such, it only provides a board, images for units, terrain and such, and all that is necessary for rolling dice, chatting, measuring ranges and all that.
1)First download the VASSAL from the first link. Then download the module and save it as ZIP-file. When starting the VASSAL programm click on Play module and choose the module you just downloaded. Then you have it.
2)Now you should be on a white screen with words such as 'retire', 'd6' and 'end turn'. Clicke the arrows next to retire. Now, a popup on the right side should have occured: click the arrows above 'active games'.
3)Now, all you have to do is find someone to play with a synchronize with them, and that enables you to set up a table to begin playing.
As of now iam currently playing, though on an outdated version, but i'll update soon.
Questions? Thoughts?

Wow, Gimmers, where the f'n 'ell 'av you been?

This week I am good-naturedly shaking my fist at: Baragash. For being unreasonably reasonable.
Sex, drugs and pointy ears.
Cheaphammer 40p: 2000 points of Marines as cheap as possible.
It'll be alright on the Knight - a slow refreshing of my original Grey Knight army.

I downloaded the Vassal program, but I can't get the 40k zip to work. How did you DL the zip from the heresy forum, and where did you save it to?

Save the zip on your desktop. Open the vassal client. Click on load module and browse to the zipped FORDK file.
You dont need to unzip this, the program needs the zipped file.
You need java installed as well btw.
Once the 40k mod opens click the connect button, followed by the two arrows above where it says new games on the right.
Someone on the server should give you a brief intro from there.
Once you're happy with the system join our tourney! It isnt due to start until the new year so theres plenty of time to get games in.

Does Vassel work with both players having to be online at the same time, or is it played like an email game where you do your turn and then the opponent logs in and does their turn as and when they are able?
I'd rather play the latter if possible.

There is an easy solution:
Remove the zip extension. Then it will work.

Did you download Version 3.4?
You must start Vassal.
Then load the module with Vassal.
Start a new game if you want to have a table, or join an existing.
To conncet you have to click connect (
) and then the doublearrows in the appearing sidebar.
To join a game enter the room, right click a player and choose synchronise. You can view the table then.
Any questions?
Here is the link for 3.4 again:

Works fine for me, but I'd still not rather use it. Took me and my friend a few hours to play a game last time.

After you get used to it (after 2 games), it shouldn`t take more time than a real tabletop games (some things goes faster, some things take longer) if you use a voice connection (like Skype) it should be even faster than a normal game.
