The Demiurge, if they are in (which would be cool) are (as I remember) reptilian, and use robots for combat. Very little would be cooler for the Tau than some close combat drones/robot things. I'm seeing something like a Necron Destroyer, but with a drone lower part and a multi-armed bladed upper part. THAT, would be awesome!

I have a good feeling about kroot from these guys, as I beleve gw will give them fleet. That will make Kroot the cc guys for speed, and numbers, while the demiurg will be the tough slow elite-ish guys.

Nope, not the Slann. It was somewhere in the BFG lore. If you look at the sketch in the article you posted, and the head of the prototype mini:

...they do indeed look to have some sort of scales or plates.

    Thoughts?

Proper Tau heavy weapon squads and CC squads would be cool
foot soldiers with heavy weapons is completely against the tau doctrine, same with cc, which is viewed as barbaric, and something to be avoided if possible. tau get there heavy from suits, the only "heavy" weapons they may carry are marker-lights, and rail rifles, both of which are support more than anything. if tau got infantry heavy weapon squads it would ruin their flavor, and turn them in to sm's with bad statlines.

tau are very mobile, every suit can move six in the move and another six in the assault without having to assault anything. for 5 pts you can make any tau vehicle fast, drones can also do six and six, and have pinning weapons. all suits are relentless, and crisis and drones can deep strike. pathfinders have to take a devilfish and have scout, so can be deep in and disembarked ready to shot on turn 1. and stealth suits of course get infiltrate, on top of the six and six. also all your fire warriors can take carbines for free, which is s5 ap 5 r18 pinning. so you should be good against demons, mobility wise.

My daughter plays Tau, just started a month ago... small army and she's still getting used to it...

Very mobile army. Kroot come in handy for tying up other units in CC but keep the rest of them far away from infantry!

The ability to jump into shooting range, shoot, then jump back out of range is very handy.

The trick to Tau is twofold, IMO. First, you have to keep the whole army mobile, floating just out of the enemys range for as long as possible. Second, focus all firepower on one enemy unit at a time... frag 'em til they pop!

I want the great knarlock to be a heavy choice. That would be cool.

As for the demiurge. I don't know about tough close combat guys. Just seems kinda odd. Maybe some kind of 2 man troop unit that attaches itself to other units. tough, high strenght, ion gun of some kind.
Not an assault unit but a defensive close combat unit would be ok.

    craigslist is a good spot...

I found a gal who has an unopened Tau Battleforce, unopened Tau Megaforce, and three unassembled tanks. She wants less than $200 for the whole sha-bang!

I'm trying to scrape the cash together as we speak... this would essentially complete my daughters army. Just in time for new models this fall...

That will change. Tau are all about the rapid fast paced blitzkriege. it's just 5th edition screwed them over.

We don't know that for sure yet... This is all based purely on if the Necron codex is ready or not... If they feel they can't make the deadline, they will push Tau forward for November, but if the Crons are good to go, then we will not see the Tau until late spring at the earliest.

I wonder if this could be a sigh?

Granted I can't back any of it, but hes been very good in the past, so I dunno.

    That is very interesting !

I am fairly sure GW released Tau and Necrons close together back in 3rd Edition - so maybe they want that trend to continue. Lets hope so - though my Mrs wont be very happy when if both my armies are updated within a few months of each other - early birthday and christmas presents me thinks

I said to my brother today, that it's: Necrons, Black Templars & Sisters of Battle, he'll likely explode. I reckon you'd do much the same CJB.

Well I desperately want Necrons updated more than Tau - I have kinda gone a bit stale on Tau, but even though Necrons are the oldest codex, I do really like them - more so since I handed my mates Vulkan list to him on a plate ! (yes I have mentioned this a few times now, but god damn its worth bringing up in all conversations!).

Tau + Necrons in close proximety = explosions of delight, very similar to a sneeze !

Anyway what seems to be missing here are the recent rumours so here they are :

Some new info about the upcomming tau, again this is just rumors so take as you will.

HQ choices are used to unlock units for troops, so a commander in a crisis suit unlocks crisis suits as troops, an etheral unlocks fire warriors, shaper unlocks kroot, demiurg commander for demiurg as troops.

    crisis suits-
mostly same stats but now 3 wounds
come with every gun option and you can choose what weapon systems you fire every round. cost (land speeder + extra HB) per model, squad size max 5

    broadsides-
can take network markerlights instead of the missiles on their arms

    more later.
Lol thanks gow I was gonna slowly release more but that works too. Another small part added to the shield generator is it makes the model eternal warrior until he fails his save so ignores the first instant kill. Only the team leader can take it though

Yes skyrays will be the new god tank as missiles always hit side armor so mech will be a very hard army to fight with against tau.

More to come as I get some games in against the new book.
when using a markerlight it allows any unit shooting at the targeted unit a benifit.

When using a skyray to shoot at a unit with a markerlight on it, it launches one seeker missile that always hits the side armor or the unit. no line of sight required for the skyray.
Different source from the above :
    okay so...

here's what i've seen so far. Taken off the BoW forums. It may be true, it may be nothing but crap. Take it with a cup of salt.

    1) Kroot HQ is in the works!
    2) Kroot to get own transport (devilfish will no longer beable to transport Kroot)
    3) Kroot will get light armor saves (6+)
    4) Kroot shaper will allow for the unit to have a special genetic trait.
    5) Firewarrior carbine to get a grenade launcher (either explosive or EMP)
    6) Vespids to get reworked
    7) Vespids to get a Heavy unit
    Firewarrior BS changed to 4
    9) Crisis suits will get “hit and run” ability
    10) Various changes to Firewarrior equipment
    11) Various changes to Crisis suit equipment
    12) New Prototypes
    13) 4th edition prototypes will be changed to “standard” equipment for all suits
    14) All HQ’s can act as a commander
    15) New type of “Heavy” battlesuit (new prototype of the broadside)
    16) Stealth suits will be changed to a advanced scout unit similar to pathfinders
    17) Pathfinders will be changed to act as a type of Tau Commando infantry

note: it was posted on april 1, so it could be viewed as an april fools.
The above could well of been an April Fools but somehow It seems reasonable to me. The other quotes all seem feasible to me.

Maybe Tau is closer than we think
