    Graphic Novels

I'm looking to expand my collection of Graphic Novels, but I don't know what to aim for. What's some good stuff for someone new to the universe of comics?

So far I only have and have read Watchmen (of course), 4 volumes of The Walking Dead (getting more of these definitely) and Batman; Arkham Asylum (because the artwork was pretty). I've been looking at Green Lantern books a lot recently, mainly because the film didn't really satisfy me, and the whole mythology behind it is really intriguing, but I don't really know where to start with that. Outside of that, pretty much anything is game so long as it's a good and compelling read with pretty pictures

I concur with Arkham Asylum: A Serious House on Serious Earth It's a haunting novel with a lot of symbolism and serving a lot inspiration to my DE. Never have I seen Batman so scared.

“A man must know his destiny… if he does not recognize it, then he is lost. By this I mean, once, twice, or at the very most, three times, fate will reach out and tap a man on the shoulder… if he has the imagination, he will turn around and fate will point out to him what fork in the road he should take, if he has the guts, he will take it.” - General George S. Patton

Yeah, that's the one I've got! I never noticed the "Serious House on Serious Earth" bit. I did a search on Amazon and it came up with the book I've got. Checked the book I have and it has it written underneath.

Also, another series I've remembered I'm interested in is the Dark Tower Graphic Novels, but I'm not sure how much knowledge of the Dark Tower series you need, as I haven't read the books...

I just started looking into it after Transformers & Watchmen... but I guess my choices are pretty mainstream so far:
Full set of Transformers reprints (~20 books)
    Transformers/New Avengers crossover
    Watchmen
    Batman: Killing Joke
    Justice League: Kingdom Come

    Just ordered:
    Batman: Year One
    Daredevil: Born Again
    X-Men: Rise of Apocalypse

I've also got a dark and brutal set on PDF (>.> it was given to me, I'll buy it if I like it ) somewhere, but the name completely escapes me.

Hellblazer has been by far my favorite comic.
    DMZ is alright.
I used to be into Sandman by Neil Gaiman but honestly can't remember what it is like. I was just thinking about re-reading it.

Let's talk Green Lantern! There's a lot of material out there (GL started in 1959, I believe), and it got a bit convoluted and weird. I strongly recommend instead skipping to the 2006 semi-reboot Green Lantern: Rebirth. This is followed by a couple of other stories before the Sinestro Corps War event, which leads into the Blackest Night crossover.

Yeah I've been looking at Rebirth, and a lot of reviews on Amazon advise new readers to start there. What are the books that follow?

From memory, you're looking at No Fear, Wanted: Hal Jordan and Green Lantern: Secret Origin (no particular order). Well, Secret Origin is fairly stand alone, but it's a good addition. You could also pick up some Green Lantern Corps - Reborn, To Be A Lantern, and Ring Quest I think run alongside the man GL line.

Can't go wrong with Wanted. Super villains finally got their act together and killed the world's heroes, and now they rule the world. Or Old Man Logan, which is the exact same concept, but is set in the DC universe.

I've got a fair few Batman stuff. If you're interested in squatting up on Bane before the next film comes out then get Knightfall, it should have any real spoilers, I don't expect the film to follow that story too much.

I started reading 100 Bullets recently and that's really good and will soon be a TV series adapted by David Goyer, so if you want to hop on the next Walking Dead before it hits go for that.

Otherwise you can do much worse than sticking with Alan Moore and go for V for Vendetta as the film absolutely raped it.

    As TIP said:

    GL: Rebirth.

Also, you could get, these in order to read some more GL:

    GL: Rebirth
    GL: Sinestro Corps War v.1 & 2
    Then - Blackest Night...

    Sets you up nicely.

So did I until I read the book. I may have been harsh, the film isn't that bad in isolation but it doesn't do the source material any favours.

Isn't JLA: Tower of Babel also meant to be good?

    I really enjoyed:

    Red Son
    Luthor
    Joker
    Blackest Night

The first three are really short, but still pretty cool. I really liked the concept behind them. Joker wasn't really my favorite...as there is a particular brand of joker I like and this was not it exactly.

I donno if this is a Graphic Novel or a collection of comics but Batman Hush Unwrapped just got into my gibs here and I'm perusing through it.
