Upcoming Armybooks?!
After lurking about Warseer/BoLS's and a couple other places, it seems like the next book releases could be;
- Dwarfs (said to be confirmed for 2012 via Harry/Hastings)
- Empire
- VC's
I feel bad for the wood elves who could really do with some love, (and a viable way to play in 8th as well!) and the brets could also do with some polishing to make their cav hit at least a bit more like it should...
My guess is that GW isn't willing to take a big risk right now... TK's seemed to have done pretty well, and hopefully the ogres moved decently enough? But putting out another less popular army?! Probably safer to release 2-3 popular armies first off to help make-up for any shortfall/failed release that could come with the tree-huggers & flowery boyz...
Still, I'm hoping the VC's are indeed on the to-do list since I'm boring silly being forced to use the same damn list every single game! It would be nice to have more than 4 or so options again...

It wasn't really an update. They didn't change any ruling in our book or anything. Just gave us a new gribbly and put wraiths and banshees back to how they SHOULD be.

We didn't get our magic lore cards though - a BIG hint that VC's are sooner rather than later... Every other wave release, (daemons, HE's, skaven) got their cards.
Wealso have the single worst internal balance of any book... Name the last time you saw a VC list that wasn't 2+ ghoul hordes + gravestar with rares to flavour! The 'ghiest hasn't helped that much - only made our rare section even more crowded. (plus he's pretty squishy for his cost in an over-costed army)
And as pointed out, the *new* wraith/banshee rules aren't exactly new either...
Empire could be just a quick polish job while filling the last few holes in the model line to make it the first 100% plastic army, while giving them a big center piece. (ie: warrior priest hero kit, demigryph cav, new knights + war alter/war wagon kit = done!)
A popular army that could give a bit of a cash injection overall.
Dwarfs are crying for some plastic love! They're alongside the WE's as being the only army who don't have a single Special/Rare unit choice available in plastic!!! (Brets have pegasus knights while DE's have cold ones)
Time to fix that and bring on the plastic slayer, hammerers, others + big kit. As well as perhaps changing about the anvil 'o doom and/or runesmiths to work in a similar fashion to empire warrior priests? (ie: bound abilities that use power dice to go off just like prayers, but with scaling abilities)
Again, could be some easy cash if GW does it right!
I'd still like to see the brets or WE's slide in between of those other books though... Perhaps go with a release such as Dwarfs ---> VC's ---> Brets/WE/s ---> Empire?!

Some good thoughts. I think Wood Elves and Brets have suffered pretty badly in this edition of the rules, and updated army books seems really necessary. A plastic special/rare choice for Dwarves seems very likely too - I bet on Slayers.
As an Empire collector at the moment, I'm of course hoping for an update! A couple of tweaks here and there, and a bit more plastic stuff (new knights!) would be nice.

I've found Brets to work really well under 8th so far. Decent Sized Lances, Peg Knights and Cheap HKB Lords, plus S5 Template Weapons all my the army workable.
As for Wood elves, here in the UK Mark Borlands been finishing top 10% in events with his lists, though it's taken a lot of practice to get to that level with them.
By all accounts, it's looking like Dwarfs, then mayve even VC to follows.

Harry/others have hinted at a posible empire kit coming in December...
Wood Elves share the same problems as VC's in that they have a couple of very stale builds to conform to if they want to be competitive. They still have more wiggle room than VC's however, who litterly have only 1 list that can do anything.
Brets have become far more of a surgon's scalple right now... If you play them like it's still 7th or earlier, you'll lose big time. Just because you can charge right away doesn't mean you should, and pure cav has never been a good build anyways.
The other thing the next 3 rummored books all have in common though, beside being popular sellers; they have funky magic that doesn't fit with 8th ed.
- VC's can add stupid amounts of power dice to their magic phase. Plus the whole re-casting bit which leads to some abuses. Still the re-casting has been a staple of the VC's, so hopefully we keep it after a fashion. (maybe go back to rolling to see if we can re-cast certain spells, making the roll harder every time the same spell is sucessfully re-cast?!?)
- Empire Warrior Priests & Arch Lectors outright add dispel dice. Empire have cheap heroes in spades, so adding +3/+4 dispel dice per turn is easy, meaning they can reliably cancel magic phases all game long... Game-breaking against certain armies.
- Dwarfs can make magic pointless! Not only getting the same benifit the Empire gets with their Runesmiths/Runelord, but they can also buy runes to get even more dispel dice, destroy a spell, take multiple dispel scrolls... Seriously, if Dwarfs want to, they can make magic not exist at all! Undead don't have a chance at that point, so again it's game-breaking against TK's/VC's.
Now, going by this logic, maybe Dark Elves will also be 'sooner rather than later' as well, since they also break the magic system by being able to chuck 7+ dice at spells, alongside getting spells to add more casting dice and other shinanigans?!
