The Storm of Tears (Critique or admiration requested!)

I thought I'd start off by introducing my Chapter - the somber Storm of Tears. like a thunderstorm they approach, silent, but with flashes of power. As they hit, their power is truly felt - a battering rainstorm of bolts, flickers of LIghtning from the Librarians, and a howl of a battlecry - "The Storm Cleanses All!"

From proud Ultramarine Stock they hail - proud, and forever indebted, for barely a century before the Chapter's Founding did the watery planet of Triton nearly fall to the Ork greenskins, were it not for the intervention of the Ultramarines, and the leadership of a man known simply as Sotirios - an Admiral of a rogue fleet who saw through the everlasting storms of the planet, to the stars, and realized there was a world outside of the planet, and when the Imperium first rediscovered the planet, he alone believed them out of all the cities, and roused up enough support that the planet was not abandoned to be destroyed to stop the orks.

Forever penitent for the disbelief that their people had for the Ultramarines' warnings, they hold the Ultramarines as Most Honored, willing to gather up arms and join in battle their 'father chapter'. But as heartsworn as they are to the codex, they have also evolved their own unique language, rites, and beliefs, taking the spirit of the Codex more than its' literal translation.

Led now by the Grand Admiral Bedros Agamemnon, they hold several rising heroes. A chapter who finds allies in the oddest places - Imperial Guard, and even commonfolk, the Chapter of Tears has caught the eye of many - enemies, and friends.

might want to work on how the chapter was founded, why the high lords of terra decided to create the chapter etc

thatfatguy: It does go into some of the detais why actually on one of the other pages. Look at 'pre founding history'.

I don't like the name... Storm of Tears sound so.... ugh. The Storm cleanses all is a good battlecry.

Why not... Storm of .... FEAR?

because it doesnt fit much with the theme of their Chapter, really. TBH 'Storm of Tears' is too long for me. It may be good as a 'sub name' (Ie, Angels of Death, Children of the Emperor) type, but Its started to stick.

That said... Storm of Tears doesn't sound right. It sounds more Eldar than Space Marine, to be honest.

Maybe call them The Storm Tears?

Or simply The Storm.

Storm Wardens is taken. As are Storm Callers, Storm Falcons, Storm Giants, Storm Hawks, Storm Lords, Storm Warriors, and Storm Wings. Storm Riders could work, especially if they were fashioned after the White Scars as a chapter more comfortable on bikes than on foot.

Synonyms for "storm" include blast, blizzard, blow, cloudburst, cyclone, disturbance, downpour, gale, gust, hurricane, monsoon, precip, precipitation, raining cats and dogs (not a good chapter name, that one), snowstorm, squall, tempest, tornado, twister, whirlwind, and windstorm.

For "tears" you have bawl, bawling, bewailing, blubber, blubbering, cry, crying, howl, howling, keening, lament, lamentation, mourning, shedding tears, snivel, sniveling, sob, sobbing, sorrowing, the blues, wailing, weep, whimpering, and yowl.

Could always take your favorite six from each list of synonyms and pick randomly with a d6 for each:

Storm
Gale
Tempest
Monsoon
Whirlwind
Blizzard

Tears
Wailing
Howling
Keening
Sorrowing
Lament

Couple of random rolls there: Blizzard of Lament, Howling Monsoons, Howling Storm, Howling Tempest, Keening Blizzard.

one of the things she mentioned in chat is having a catchy title for a single marine....like Ultramarines...each is an Ultramarine. She was suggesting that certain names did not work well for this.

Sourimplant may be onto something though - example, WAiling *something* Could be called 'the Wailers' which also sounds like Whaler (or wailing on someone with a weapon). Hmm. Storm almost is overdone...

What about something to do with Mariners? I may avoid 'Lamenting' to avoid confusions with the Lamenters.

Mourning Mariners? Storm Mariners?

The Wailing Tempest - could be called Tempests or Wailers as before
Howling Gale - Howlers?

Oooh, what about something about the Tides?

Tides of Sorrow - Tides for short? Hrm. Not too sure

I feel like i'm naming a football team.

Could go along the lines of 'vengeance' or revenge.

Avenging Storm - Avengers? Also works for Storm of Venegeance, Vengeful Tides...

Gales of Justice? Bleh!

I kind of like Keening Winds Chapter. Winds for short...

Could also maybe work in the name of their home planet too..

Triton's Vengeance, Tritons' Tears (oo, I kind of like that one.)... Sons of Triton may be too iffy.
