    Steam Punk Imperial Guard

I'm starting my first guard army and planning to theme them as a steampunk force.

Currently scouring the net (well, ebay and craigslist) for Praetorians (British 1800's soldier IG GW sculpted years ago) now I'm looking for conversion ideas for the vehicles.

So far: Valkyrie troop transport: Dark Eldar raider, remove the sails and pilot, add zepplin style balloon over the top, rear side sponsons with prop engines, remove Dark Lance add multilaser pivot mount with gunner, rope ladders in the rear for access point.

Leman Russ: Use Empire steam tank as chassis and modify turret to carry battle cannon, add more armor and a train style dozer blade in the front. Or a spider limbed tank like the one in Wild, wild, west.

Ogryns: Frankensteinian monsters animated by science gone wrong. Mix ogryn parts with grotesques, fantasy ogres, and DE talos bits, maybe even some orc parts.

I'd like some ideas for converting Chimeras and sentinels to be steam punkish.

I'm assuming you mean it could not be used in GW sanctioned tournaments. But also, why not? As long as the models take up the same space and at the same height and are either scratch builds or converted GW models I don't see an issue.

Perfectly legal to use as long as 50% of the Bitz used are GW Bitz. Gundar, sounds awesome, do eet! We will be expecting pictures soon.

Sounds like a fine idea! For basic guardsmen, why don't you pick up a box of Empire Handgunners/Crossbowmen for conversion supplies? Lots of good gizmos and details that you could include. And all plastic! Also consider including Sentinels, since with some tinkering they could look very appropriate (steam pumps, extra tubing, etc etc).

I guess the background would be along the lines of a lost planet being rediscovered during their industrial revolution and promptly conscripted. The armies they field aren't quite up to date yet and have some interesting ideas with regards to style. Am I barking up the right tree?

I'm going to have Blue Table Painting do most of the heavy lifting here. They've done good work for me on my Empire army.
