The Necronomicon - Lychguard - 22/5/12
Images aren't great due to lack of lighting. Colours are probably a bit off as well, but I want to prove that I've actually finished a Necron model already.

If I could make one suggestion, it would be to give all the gold pieces another run down of black wash!
Otherwise, looking pretty spiffy. Interesting take on the necron color scheme!

Or perhaps a touch of red wash. Black would grey it out too much.
Like it! Like it a lot! Well done, a well executed piece indeed. See? I told you that you can paint!

Looking great sofar! And yes, a wash would look nice on the gold pieces (but I'd say maybe chestnut if you have some, otherwise black would look ok too), or maybe a light drybrush of silver?
Interesting scheme anyway, like it

Man, how do you feel about the flimsy little flight stand that they give you to hold such a front heavy model? I know it's plastic, but still. I mean if you look at the ghost barges, it almost doesnt make sense to me how they justified such a tiny flight stand.

Those look great, keep it up. I have my own take on the gold actually. On the guy up front with the gold headpiece, if you'd left the line down the middle black, and o the lords armour left a bit of black under each scale, you'd get more definition. Then I was told a whole back ogyrn flesh wash works great on gold, and I have to agree. Then like was said, a really light highlight of mythril silver and the gold will really stand out. But the model looks great, can't wait to see more of this paint scheme.

It's not actually that bad at all. The stand fits into the hole so nicely that it keeps the whole thing snug and stable. I thought the same as you when I saw the 360 views on GW, but it's surprising how stable it really is. I think it's because it's effectively an L shape, so the back has more weight on it than the front anyway. I think if the position of the stand was moved forward, it would actually be unbalanced the other way.

Is the hole for the pin quite deep, or is it still the 6/7mm of old with the thinner tip being the part which holds it?

Excellent. That's always been a weakness, good to see they finally got around to sorting it then. Though Evan's transport did look far too big for the one stand given.

looking good, but that turquiose looks a little flat. Maybe it's the camera.

It's certainly not the Nikon D40 DSLR
It's possibly the lighting, because it's currently dusk, and we don't have those uber bright lightbulbs as they're expensive. On the other hand, it might just be because I can't do highlights, so I don't do them.

Oh don't put yourself down, I'm sure you're capable of slapping a lighter shade of turquoise on those armour plates. It would improve the model immensely. The easiest thing to do might be to slide some sort of blue/green wash over it and then apply a thin coat of the base colour (Hawk Turquoise?) around the edges/brightest places. The same premise applies to the red!
The metals look much better than the flat colours - so it's clear you have a steady enough hand and all that.
-
6th December 2011 16:49 #20
I didn't highlight the metals. That was just a case of drybrush and wash. Same doesn't really work for the Teal and Purple. Yes, I've tried it

And no, I really cannot do Highlights. It looks way too messy because my hands aren't steady enough. I'd rather have neat flat colours than messy stand-out colours.
