While there are no rumors of it being redone...like soon soon...it stands to reason that it will be one of the first of the new edition, because it's older than all other codexes...
except for...
Black Templar
Dark Angels
Eldar
Tau
Orks
Space Marines

Some books do get redone after just a single Edition, just not many.
Really though, I see no reason to re-do IG yet. Not the most balanced codex out there but lots of good choices and nothing I consider OP.

Guard are not going to get redone. They're absolutely fine, and have a built in longevity that'll see them last well into 6th no doubt.

yeah I don't get it either, but they do have a point, after the summer there will be FEW if any codexes to be redone, and GW have already stated a lot which won't get redone in 6th, which leaves a very long drought for 40k players. Question is, does this mean new race?

Really? If Legions/Chaos happens as the first of 6th and Templars are indeed next, Tau could happen in between, then there's Dark Angels to do, Eldar, Sisters of Battle (properly) and likely back around to Marines again, maybe Daemons if they're not in Legions and Orks. By which time you'll be looking at 2014/15, so don't get your knickers in a twist over it.

Just made a chart of the old codexes, and it's consistently 3 40k codex's a year, editions have a life of on an average of 4-5 years, so
Black Templar 2013
Dark Angels 2013
Eldar 2012
Tau 2013
Orks 2014
Space Marines 2012
CSM 2012
the other codex's have been said to not be getting a face life in 6th, so, that leaves between 2 and 3 years of no codex unless new races are added. And this is with 3 codexes a year, and not every year has had 3 40k codexes, in fact since 2006 NO year has had more than 3 codexes of any system, except for 2008 with 4 fantasy codexes.
I'm going to rename this thread because I'd like to find the answers here because there are some logic holes in the rumors or some information we aren't getting. I think the obvious answer is 6th is being designed with a 3 year life expectancy.

So Templars and Tau the 2 oldest codices (correct plural for codex) in an other 2 years..... i bloody hope not.
For one thing Space marines was updated in 08 and with necrons just being updated (previous oldest codex with 3rd edition done in 02) you'd think they would hit the next ones down the list being Templars 05, Tau March 06 then Eldar November 06.
Well that is using logic something GW has shown to lack in the past.

No they haven't. GW won't say anything at all until a week before preorder and even then they'd never admit that.
Doesn't mean it isn't true but you've got to be careful about 2nd guessing them. We're not looking at a specific formula here they will release what they think will bring in the most sales at the end of the day.

I'm really worried about the next DA book. Mostly because my power armored dudes are still probably going to be the worst build in the book, and to be competitive I'll need to get 30 winged-cyberlion riders. By which I mean, buy the $40 dollar SC that lets me field enough of them, and then by 30 more for the actual guys. Or the "Super Watcher in the Dark" who mysteriously appears mysteriously to aid the Dark Angels in protecting their dark and mysterious secrets that are shrouded in darkness and secrecy
.
Though Eldar has me more worried, because more of their gear and special rules have been progressively getting worse while relying on a small number of units exploiting the current edition's mechanics (The Flying Circus).

My Eldar, whilst never the most competitive, are creaking definitely. But they'll outshoot almost anything. Just a pity everything is so damned expensive in their Codex and nothing is provided as standard on vehicles.
Anywho - if you've already got a DAngels army, you should be fine. Same as if you've got a Deathwing army (which to be fair is what most people use DAngels for). Maybe a refresh will be all they need and you'll be fine. But Eldar ... hmm. Don't know. Could go many ways, but I hope that all options are viable, not just mono-builds.

7th December 2011 13:05 #14well, like I said, unless it's tau and blacktemplars in the box set, or GW has drastically altered their release schedules, yes. Because there is only room three codex's at most according to history, and historically the boxed set armies get done in short order. Now the 8th fantasy has yet to see high elves, so they may have indeed changed things up. but going purely on pattern recognition and rumors of the boxed set.So Templars and Tau the 2 oldest codices (correct plural for codex) in an other 2 years..... i bloody hope not.
There is also the thought that 6th edition is a bunch of smoke up our asses, but that has all but been announced by GW.

I say it because, in comparison to books of the same edition, they've been getting nerfed constantly since RT (and no, Harlequins abusing Rending and combat consolidation in Falcons abusing Skimmer rules hitting Doomed targets doesn't count as a "good" book design, seeing as that got its balls removed in one swift edition change), and just in terms of wargear and special rules, blander and blander each edition. Hell, it wouldn't surprise me if we lost ghosthelms since Perils (thankfully) won't ID our seers if it gets through.

I for one, even when I've got my Eldar player hat on, love the fact that the boring unkillable Falcon spam of doom armies have been killed off. Exactly the type of army where your opponent has zero fun, and that's just not good. Now, if they can make either foot lists OR mech viable, or maybe a mix in between, that'd be great. Considering how armies have been going with special rules of late though, I reckon Eldar will resume their place at the top of the "oh f**k, not them again" table.

Isn't it kind of silly to declare that a codex "doesn't need to be redone" for a new edition when we haven't seen the new edition? New edition rules can completely change the landscape of what are "good choices" and things you would "consider OP" in unpredictable ways.
And I don't mean to pick on you, the same can be said about everybody else who declares that book X is fine and too new to need work.

well with rapid fire rumors to be much better than current, I don't think guard will be hit too hard unless some how ordinance becomes 3d6 deviation.
consequently i'm getting some more plasma gunners.
