    army list advice

    i know this is a army list post but i wanted to ask for help from the tau guys. my first tau list, im shooting for 2k, im about 27 points shy and look for crit and advice.

    The forums have been quiet lately so you shouldn't expect an answer right away.

    I don't know how 2000 point games roll because I only play 1250-1500 but this list is quite similar to how I would run it. The only thing I can say is the Kroot won't help much as bubble wrap with only 12 models. The few times that I've run 12 models, they all got wiped out by turn 2 in a 1250 point game.

    U can give bodyguards hw eqiupment. And I wouldnt suggest twin linked missile pods. Just stick with ur FireKnife combo u got going on. Expensive, but o-so efective. I never leave home without at least 1 squad with fireknife. Also maybe some more Markerlights, wouldn hurt. Overall not bad.you should give it a shot in agame. And yeah,12kroot wont be able to protect anything. Either take them out get it up to a 20 model squad. best of luck.

    so i decided to take out the kroot and one pirahna cause i only have one and i dont want to proxy added in one unit of three crisis suits and added 7 path finders for some marker lights and took away a devilfish from one unit of fire warriors.

    wow thats a lot of S10 firepower Like it.

    I'd consider also replacing the bodyguards with standard crisis battlesuits if you've got an elites slot available. They're cheaper and you dont really need wargear with them. You can use the points perhaps toward a third battlesuit, or toward more troops (see below)

    The unit of crisis battlesuits that you have - plasma is expensive. Consider twin link missile pods, I've seen very effective armies kitted out with these. They make for fairly cheap units, and 3 units with 2 S7 twin link shots are good allrounders.

    For troops, the 6 fire warriors on their own are a bit vulnerable. I presume that this is your baseline objective covering unit. Personally I think the minimum should be 9 (so at least you have to lose 5 before they decide to retreat off of the battlefield, and 3 before they have to take a shooting morale check).

    Good choice. Having more markerlights is never a bad thing.

    but i also considered using a stealth team with marker dones, think they would be more worth while then the pathfinder? the only reason i would lean more towards the path finders is the ability to mitigate deep strike better. but thats not a must have,

    Steath teams would be better in a way because they have the stealth generators but they would have less markerlights in total. Just stick to the pathfinders as you would have 8 shots from a single full squad instead of the stealth team's 1. It would also be cheaper to have pathfinders.

    ok ill give it a shot. i know the marker lights are really useful but ive seen alot of lists where people dont take them.

    If people don't take them, it's usually because they don't have any to take. I never used to take them because I didn't have pathfinders and I didn't understand how markerlights worked. I eventually bought some sniper drones and learned how markerlights work, and BOY do they help.
