Which half first?
I haven't had a chance to play yet but I got the Codex. I put together a 1500 point list Which I quite like I think it will be fun. I don't know how to split it for the demonic assault.
Keeper of Secrets with Unholy might -Transfixing Gaze - Daemonic Gaze
240
5 Pink horrors Bolt and the Changeling
100
5 pink horrors with bolt
95
10 Daemonettes with Transfixing Gaze and an Instrument
150
10 Daemonettes same
150
3 Fiends of Slaaneshe with Unholy might
100
3 Fiends same
100
Hearld of Slaaneshe - Chariot - Unholy might - transfixing gaze - soporific musk
95
Soul Grinder with phlegm
150
2 more Soul Grinders.
1480 total
I want to put the Keeper and the 3 soul grinders in the first wave. I want the first wave to be all big stuff so the little pew pews have nothing to shoot at. The problem is that is only 4 units and I need at least 5 in the first wave. What ever else I put with them is going to take all of the small arms fire of the entire enemy army. My thought is to drop in both units of Pink Horrors with the 4+ save they will be better than the Daemonettess at absorbing fire power.
Or I could adjust the list and make a unit of blood crushers and hope they can take the punishment. OR adjust and take a second greater deamon. That would be terrifying, first wave 2 Blood Thirsters and 3 dreadnoughts?
IF that works as it should the 3 template weapons will spread out the enemy army and as the Slaanshii forces come in they should be able to isolate and wipe out what ever unit they choose.
If the other wave comes in first there won't be anything for the big guns to shoot at. The herald is a HQ but she's not that tough and has 5 wounds and no auto dead so she should be good at soaking up rail guns and twin linked laze cannons. If that side comes down first would having the shooting from the pinks really help?
I figure if that side is the first wave the plan would be to just get stuck in. Turn it into a brawl and add the reinforcements where they are needed as they come in.
If you have some adjustments to suggest to the list please add them. I want to play with the Slaan on a chariot even though I haven't heard anything good about them they just seam cool.
Also there must be a thread to give help on the different movement types. I last played long ago and the the infantry, jump infantry, deamonic flight, fleet, cav, jet bike options are confusing me.
Please excuse any typeO's it's Canada here and my fingers are cold.

Honestly? I'd split it like this;
Wave 1;
Keeper of Secrets
5 Horrors
10 Daemonettes
3 Fiends
Herald
Soulgrinder
Wave 2
5 Horrors
10 Demonettes
3 Fiends
Soulgrinder
Soulgrinder
That way, no matter which wave comes in first, you don't lose any effectiveness.
Necrons
Dark Eldar
Death Guard
Nurgle Daemons
Traitor Guard

If I split like that for the first round I'll be fighting the entire enemy army with only half of my army and I can't assault which means half of the half I do have is pretty much only a target.
My plan with dropping only big guys or only little guys would be. I would have half of my army but only half of the enemy army would be really useful. The small arms fire would bounce off the big guys, and the anti tank rounds would be total over kill if the only targets were toughness 3 and 4 and cost less than 20 points a model.
I'm willing to lose effectiveness as long as the enemy loses effectiveness as well. I'm really not looking forward to 2-1 odds for a round. I'm not sure what's going to be left when the reinforcements arrive. But this is all theory craft. How much is of the first wave is left when the finally get to assult?

Depends how you deepstrike. I find a lot of Daemon players have no sense of tactical deepstrike, and just go for the throat, setting themselves up to be shot to pieces before they even do anything. Cover is your friend, and you need to be able to judge distances and your opponent fairly well.

I've played with chaos daemons a couple of times and against them quite allot. My experience is no mather how i or my opponent splits his forces, it can and sometimes will go all wrong after you roll that first scatterdie.
If you really want to have some key units on the table more or less where you want them you cant go wrong with icons. I've found out that a unit of 7-8 plaguebarers with an icon is very very hard to shift without using up allot of shootingpower. Imo you also can't go wrong with balancing your 2 halves of your army. It takes time and allot of practice to guess where you can and cannot deepstrike your units. And even more then any other army you need a bit of luck with the dice. The chaos gods can be a fickle sort.
There is no peace among the stars, only an eternity of slaughter and the laughter of thirsting gods.
Cast down the idols! Destroy the temples! slay the priests! Show these fools that they worship nothing more than a rotting corpse!
Sanity is for the Weak! Your slavery to the false emperor ends today!
