black legion

so im thinking of doing black legion but the codex just says it uses marines from different factions of chaos. does there stats change or is there a codex just for black legion.

The Chaos Space Marines codex is the only one you have right now... rumor has it there will be a Legions codex next year, which may have more Legion specific rules in it? As it is you have the same codex as everybody else, so you are left with paint job, characters and fluff to make them Black Legion

so if a take a unit of thousand sons marines and a unit of plague marines and convert them to the black legion do they keep there codex states and special abilities and cost?

you use the codex straight up, there's no rule or ability swaps beyond taking an Icon in the standard squads (or using fabius bile for the 'enhanced warriors')
so fluff-wise this codex is pretty bland as there is nothing beyond the unit choices to say your army is legion specific

If you're using the Black Legion and want to use aligned marines units, you can either paint them as Black Legion and leave a shoulder pad/helmet/somesuch in their god's colours (blue and gold for tzeentch etc.) to mark them out as less undivided members of the Legion, or you could say that they have joined your warband from another renegade chapter/warband as mercenaries. This happens all the time in the modern incarnation of CSM as GW would have it. Your plague marines could be a squad from The Cleaved, for example, with their aspiring champion (plague champion) drawn away from his own chapter by the promise of glory and conquest under your Black Legion Lord. The lure of the chosen of the Despoiler is usually enough. Stats don't change for doing this. You can treat your add-ons as marines with an icon or as aligned marines, so long as your opponent knows what each unit is, everything's fine. Converting and painting them right for your own benefit is often quite rewarding though, for me at least. Best of luck with it, and bon choice on your legion!

man i i remeber it was about 4 or 5 years ago i was going to start playing then and i chose iron warriors because i loved the background. well i spend about 1000 dollars between ordering from GW and FORGEWORD and made sure that all my units were kit'ed out using everything was based and painted. i spend all my spare time and (quite time on the throne) reading that codex and i think i had a codex just for my iron warriors but i dont remember. i remember that IW's were the only ones who could use the vindicator from space marines and two or three tanks from IPG. i show up to play and bam everyone is playing freakin warmachine. i ended up getting mad and selling all my stuff on ebay. well a close group of use are playing so even though i know alot im still new to the playing part. man this new codex really flipped things up for CSM's in general, why did they unify everthing. anyway thanks for the post imerial dragon.
